the "emo sucks" bandwagon: part 2
So, I felt the need to respond to Isnt.Something.Missing's comment on my last post because it seemed to hold a lot of truth in it, and also I thought I should clear some things up that may have been misinterpreted. -----------MCR isn't emo. - Yes. I know that MCR isn't emo. What I was trying to get across was that some people were labeling them as emo by association (yeah... that really doesn't make much sense to anyone but myself... sorry if you don't understand)
They are also the biggest hypocrites I've met. It's not ok to bash emos, yet it is to bash preps? They've got their heads so far up their arses that it's not funny. - Hypocrisy is annoying. And it shouldn't be okay to bash anyone. Of course, a world without any bashing just isn't realistic. I would be a hypocrite if I said I hadn't ever bashed someone/something before.
I don't believe *all* [emos] are whiney and self-multilating. However, the ones I have met are. And I'm going to treate them accordingly. If someone has real problems, then yeah, fine. But these people have decent lives. I'm disgusted how they act. It degrades people who have real issues with self-harm and depression. - Once again, I agree. That's pretty much what I meant when I mentioned the girl who was bragging about being emo because she cut herself (seriously. she was basically announcing to anyone within hearing range, "oh! I'm so emo 'cause I cut myself!"). Cutting does not equal emo. It equals depression/REAL problems.
Stereotypes always are based on truth, even if it is only just a little. - Yes, but those truths are most often grossly exaggerated.
I am reasonably intelligent. Have a sense of humour. Do not believe stereotypes are a problem; it's the behaviour that gets directed towards them that is. - So, I'm going to apologize for the intellegence comment from before. I just think tolerance is a much more agreeable than just attacking something you don't like. Also, the behavior towards the stereotypes may be the actual problem, but its the stereotypes that lead to negative behavior. Therefore, eliminate/tone-down the stereotype, eliminate/tone-down the behavior towards it. But I digress.
