Sometimes I wish I was a little girl, again---because bruised knees heal faster than broken hearts.

Okay, I don't care if I get loaded down with hate mail for this, but I have got to speak out and speak my mind. Emo is not a look. Emo is a lifestyle that just happens. You can't decide to be emo. Emos look how they want because they want. It's sad that this is turning into a fad. There are three groups in the world: the emos, the wannabe emos (posers), and the emo haters that beat us up because we're emo. There are goths out there who say it's their duty to wipe emos out. There are punks and rockers who say the same thing. There have been news reprts everywhere trying to tell what "emo" is, and "warning" parents about their kids being emo, and about cutting and about suicide. There have been kids killed because they wanted to have black spiky hair, or because they wanted to wear band shirts and tight pants, or because they wantd to wear make-up, or because they wore a lot of jewelry. Emos are humans, just like everyone else. We're being run down with cars, or beat up seven-on-one, or more. Emos don't always cut. We aren't always depressed. We aren't always suicidal. We wear what we do and do, what we do, and listen to what we do, and say what we do because we want to. We take pictures the way we want to. Not because we think it's cool. Not because we want to fit in. A lot of emos have had hard backgrounds. Don't hate us for it. We can't help it, and it's made us who we are. We look like we do because we want to. Think about it. Just stop and think for a single second. Emos are people just like jocks, and goths, and preps, and nerds, and all the others. We have a different style, sure, but inside we're just the same as all the others. They have hearts. They have blood pulsing through their veins. They have emotions and brains and minds that think and feel. Life is hard enough for emos, as is. It's hard enough for all of us, as humans. Why do we have to rag on others and beat them up and kill them because they're something you're not? Because we look diferent? Because we wear different clothes? Because our hair covers our faces? And it doesn't on all emos. People can ask what an emo is, and other people can tell them it's someone that wears band shirts and girls' pants and heavy eyeliner and is depressed and suicidal and a cutter and has black hair and cries and writes poetry and God knows what else. Some emos are like that, yeah. I am, for the most part. But not all emos are. I just want to get it across to allthe posers and all the haters that we aren't some foreign creature from another planet and we aren't a fashion statement. We are people, and emo is our lifstyle. You can't replicate it, and you can kill as many of us as you want. We won't change. We won't disappear. There'll always be someone somewhere that's emo. You can't kill them all. A cause is never lost as long as there is a single fool to stand up for it. We aren't a lost cause as long as someone speaks out for us. And know what? Someone always will.
