"What a chimera, then, is man! What a novelty! What a monster, what a chaos, what a contradiction, what a prodigy! Judge of all things, feeble worm of the earth, depositary of the truth, a sink of uncertainty and error, the glory and shame of the universe

"So..." #1

So there's this kid in my A.P.U.S. History class (that's "Advanced Placement", don't you know. It's hell, by the way)and he really ticks me off. Not only that, but he pisses the teacher off, too. And pissing off our history teacher, Mr. D, is not the brightest of ideas. Maybe it's his ignorance that infuriates me. Or maybe it's just plain stupidity. There's a fine line between those two, and he manages to cross it...every...single...day. Take for instance, the "Democrat/Republican" discussion we had a couple weeks ago. There we were sitting in class, listening to the oh-so boring lecture Mr. D was giving us about the complexities of the American government system, and how the various parties are more intricate than they seem. In short, all Democrat and Republican stereotypes aren't necessarily true. Anyway, Mr. D's going on about different things like liberal conservatives and conservative liberals, and how everything isn't just black and white. He gave the example of our current president, George W. Bush (or in Mr. D's words 'Baby Bush'), and how he's a Republican, which generally means they believe in little or no government interference in the actions of the states or people. So...if that's true, what's the 'No Child Left Behind' Act all about? That's certainly government interference. But that's besides the point. We're continuing on, saying how Bush had taken a very liberal action, though still a Republican, and then, the kid (let's call him "Bob") finally breaking out of his trance of throwing his pencil up and down in the air, says "But he can't do that. He's a Republican!" ... Like, DER! Was this not what we were discussing just a few minutes ago? Where have you been? What's wrong with you?! And then, he's always asking these questions that our teacher is somehow supposed to know the answer to. You know, those really annoying "if" questions that aren't even relevant, and whose outcomes could be virtually anything. And at the most nonsensical moments, too! Not only that, but then, when he actually asks a well-thought-out question and our teacher has the answer, he doesn't even listen. Rude much? HECK YEAH! The least you could do, is PRETEND like you're listening when a teacher, whose giving up his/her own free time to answer you in a class that you CHOSE to take, is responding back. Mr. D has perfected two methods two combat this Bob: 1) If hands are raised and Bob also has a hand raised, Mr. D chooses others before him, which usually turn up to be highly complex questions that I do not understand, and therefore, are meant to be answered in a highly complex and lengthy fashion. And by the time Mr. D actually gets to picking Bob, Bob has already forgotten his own question. Genius, I tell you. 2) Mr. D ignores Bob's raised hand completely. Simple, but effective. Let me tell you, it is paradise when Bob is not in class. He's like that one, annoying cricket in the middle of the night, that you just need to shut up and you can finally get some sleep. I swear, everytime he speaks, I want take my shoe and shove it in his over-sized mouth. Maybe even implant a couple brain cells, but why waste the effort? Now, I could continue to rant, but I don't feel the need to waste my energy anymore in writing on a topic that I despise. So, I suppose this is all I have for now. But believe me, you will here more about Bob. Sincerely, Enigma
