House Bill 505 Ranting Time!!!
Okay, so for all you non-poliical/non-American types, House Bill 505 is a bill that the Senate is about to vote on. This bill states that 'Under God' will be deleed from the pledge of allegiance. we've been doing a project in Social Studies to act as lobbyiss and make a brochure for a house bill, so I chose this one. Now, I'm not atheist, in fact, I'm the opposite- I'm agnostic, bit don't immigrants have to recite the pledge to get a green card? And how many immigrants are NOT christian, catholic, or otherwise?
On another point, kids who are anti-christian cannot say the pledge, so isn't it logical that christians give up their oh-so-beloved two words in order to allow others to recite the entire pledge.
Also, it's against the constitution to say that, especially with the uppercase G. It's against freedom of religion.
We had a subsitute today when we presented these, and she said she would have to play 'The Devil's Advocate' on our reports, however, she only debated on mine, and on another student's who did hers on the 'banning cellphones while driving' bill, which she said was bad because then she 'wouldn't be able to call my hubby and ask him if he wans anything from the stare, and if I can't answer my phone, I could be losing a sub job'. She also le her sixth grade daughter eat her lunch in he classroom while we were wrking, which is very distracing to a bunch of hungry seventh graders. So yeah. I hate that sub. When the presentattions were done, I talked wih my two friends around me and wrote a paper on the New Pledge, and we were discussing it, and he sub kept glaring at me, but I kept ignoring her. I hate religious prejudice people...
There are more than one solution to his problem too- people could recite the pledge according to their beliefs, or lack there of.
I pledge allegiance to the United States of America, and to the republic, of which it stands, one nation, under **Insert god(s)((notice the lowercase g)) or lack thereof here** one and indivisible.
Or, you could simply say 'no god' or 'my god(s)', that way, there's no Hindu kids saying the pledge for two minutes in order to name all their gods.
