I went to Warped Tour and MET WILLIAM BECKETT!
So my sister and I got to the venue about half an hour before doors opened, and we were pretty close to the front of the line. We waited for a while, and when the doors opened, we couldn’t find a big schedule, so we headed for the merch area to see if the individual bands’ schedules were up. We went to The Academy Is…’s tent first, because my sister (she’s 13) loves them too. They were right near Cobra’s tent, so we each got shirts from those two before heading off to figure out where everything was. We explored for a bit, saw a couple songs from Mayday Parade’s set, and then headed to the stage where TAI was scheduled to perform. It was around 11:30, and they were going to play at 12:50. So we saw a couple songs from Greeley Estates while we were at it. But, we were lucky. We snuck in the side of the crowd, so we were really close to the barricade but pretty far to the right. Anyway, one girl ended up leaving, so my sister ended up being right against the barricade and I was right behind her.
AND THEN TAI CAME OUT. They started with Neighbors. I’d seen them before, but it was a while ago, I’d almost forgotten how energetic they are live. William was doing all his usual moves, lifting up his shirt and jumping off the drums and everything. It was incredible. Travis from We The Kings came out to help with one song, so that was cool. I sang every word, even Summer Hair = Forever Young, which I think is going to be one of my favorites off the new album. At one point he came over to our side of the stage, and my sister and I were singing along and, I swear, he looked right at us and pointed and smiled :] Everyone was jumping and crowdsurfing, and I got pretty crushed at some points but it could’ve been worse. So at one point, a girl finished crowdsurfing and when she got over the barricade, instead of running straight off, she ran close to the stage and reached up and William took her hand before security (who are dicks, by the way- they stood in front of me and blocked my view waayyyy too much) took her off. And that gave me an idea. So when William announced it was their last song (Checkmarks, my favorite!) I asked security to get me out, and I ran right to William. I didn’t have time to grab his hand but I kind of lifted my arms and was like, “I love you guys!” and he smiled and was reaching down but security grabbed me and turned me around so I had to run off.
Anyway, after that, I met up with my sister. Both of us were totally high on adrenaline. We bounced around for a while, then headed decided to get some water and chill for a bit. We checked out the Cobra signing, but the line was insane, so we decided not to go. We sat around for a couple minutes and tried to cool off. The Against Me! signing was at 3, and I really wanted to go to that, but the TAI signing was at 4:30. The worst part was, the Cobra Starship set was at 4:20, so we decided to miss that in favor of the TAI signing.
We sat down by the tent where the TAI signing would be around 2, and I waited with my sister for a bit before going over to the Against Me! tent. I didn’t have to wait that long, which was good because I really didn’t want to leave my sister alone for too long. When I got to the front, Tom was the first person there, and I just started stammering and stuff about how much their music meant to me. They’re one of my all-time favorite bands, their music has gotten me through some tough shit, and I respect him as a person so incredibly much; if you don’t know them, you should go check it out. My hands were shaking the whole time I talked. But when I was done, Tom gave me this really genuine smile and said that it meant a lot. I got a picture, and then he and the rest of them signed the bag that I’d gotten earlier, and I went back to the TAI line.
My sister had managed to get really, really close to the front of the line! We waited for a really long time, then they started handing out cards with numbers on them. I was 7th, she was 8th. I couldn’t freaking believe how lucky we were. I still ended up waiting on the hot pavement for like an hour and a half, but we met some girls and talked for a while, so it was fun. Jack the Camera Guy stopped by for a bit so I got a picture and said hi to him, and Audrey Kitching was signing next door, so I got a picture with her.
Finally, the boys walked over. May I add that they had like five people keeping order around them? They also had a sign that said no cameras, no touching the band, and no condoms signed. Which made me a laugh a little…
Anyway, when it was my turn, I went up with my t-shirt. Sisky was first, then Chizzie, then Butcher, then Mike Carden, then William. I went up to Sisky and Chizzie and I was like “So I almost got kicked out of boarding school to see you guys and it was one of the best nights of my life,” and Sisky laughed and was like, “Now that’s punk rock. Sometimes you gotta break rules to rock out, dude. Way to go.” And he and Chislett laughed a little and signed my shirt, and then I was like “Thank you!” and Sisky was like “See you this fall?” and I said yeah, and he said “Don’t get in too much trouble,” and I said “I’ll try,” and then I moved on to Mike and the Butcher. I didn’t really say anything to them, I was pretty nervous and I didn’t want to repeat my story like five times. SO they signed, and then I moved on to William.
Conversation went like this:
Me: “Sorry for going all fangirl on you earlier.”
William: “What?”
Me: “Oh, I was the one who like, jumped out and ran up and security pulled me away.”
William: “Oh, no problem.” **starts signing shirt**
Me: “So I snuck out of boarding school and almost got kicked out to see you guys and it was incredible.”
And then William TAKES MY HAND (he reaches out and I kind of look at it for a second like why the fuck would he want to touch me) but then I get it and take his hand and he looks me really intensely in the eyes and is like, “Thank you.” In this voice like it really means something. GUH. He looks a tiny bit different than he does in pictures, like he’s not quite so perfect but somehow it makes him even more gorgeous. He had a little stubble and was sweating a little but he was still perfect. His eyes are kind of hypnotic. And his hands are incredible, may I mention. Not sweaty, really thin long fingers, and he took my hand and really HELD it, you know? I just kind of died a lot. I stammered “Thank you, you guys are amazing,” and then I took my shirt and went off to the side and waited for my sister.

After that, my sister and I just bounced around for a bit screaming and fangirling. Then we realized that the Cobra set probably wasn’t over! So we ran as fast as possible over there. We caught the very end of Bring It (Travis McCoy was there, and Travis from WTK was singing William’s part) and then Gabe sang Hollaback Boy! Well, like 20 second of it. But it was awesome. I sang along and my sister was just like “wtf.” And then they finished with Guilty Pleasure, which made my life. I did the dance and everything.
After that, we waited around for a bit before we found out that Angels And Airwaves had switched times with Against Me!, and we didn’t want to see A&A so we went over to We The Kings. We caught three songs, including Check Yes Juliet. Right after them was All Time Low. The crowd was absolutely insane for ATL, even before they started. We were pretty close to the front and in the middle, so we got some major shoving. It got even worse when they came out. GOD those guys are hot. Alex was like “The night is still young, so let’s fuck shit up!” and they sang Let It Roll, This Is How We Do, Coffeshop Soundtrack, and Six Feet Under The Stars. The crowd was surprisingly violent. We left during the last one, because we wanted to get a good spot for Against Me! so my sister crowdsurfed out (her first time) and I went the normal way.
Against Me! was incredible, as always. I sang along from the side (because my sister wasn’t up to that crowd) but then I really wanted to get more into it so I made my way around and in and went crowdsurfing. It was so incredible that I went again, and the second time, when I was up there I ended up facing the stage. I was looking at Tom and all of a sudden he looked right at me, and I could tell he remembered me, and he smiled at me! It was awesome.
Right after Against Me! was Say Anything. They did all my favorite songs, and I went crowdsurfing twice. After that was over, we had to wait around for our parents for a while, and we just walked around and talked to some people.
It was the most incredible day. I can’t even describe how happy I was, even though I was sunburned and sweaty and bruised and exhausted. It was perfect, everything I thought it would be. I met two of my four favorite vocalists, I saw most of the people I wanted to see…UGH. I CAN’T WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR!
