"Akina. Wake up...Troublesome girl, wake up!"
Your eyes fluttered open and you looked around, your chin resting on the desk in front of you. You sat up and yawned, then looked at Shikamaru.
"Whatcha wake me up for? I was sleeping good," you said lazily.
"We're leaving, our sensei is here," he replied, already standing and walking out with Ino, Chouji, and an older man.
You nodded and stood up, yawning again before following them out of the room.
"I can't believe you fell asleep!" Ino said with a laugh as the four of you sat down at the edge of the woods.
"When I'm bored, I sleep. It's that simple," you said with a shrug. You watched as Chouji opened his bag of chips and began to eat. "Can I have some?"
Ino scoffed. "Those chips are loaded with calories!"
"Point being?" You inquired, raising an eyebrow. "I don't care if it's got a million calories or none at all. I like chips."
"Sure you can, Akina," Chouji said, holding out the bag.
"Arigato," you said, grabbing a handful and eating them.
He nodded as he withdrew the bag. *Wow, she's pretty. Big green eyes, long legs, and she likes to eat...*
You saw the look he was giving you, but you ignored it. You watched quietly as the older man leaned against a tree and lit a cigarette.
"Well, I'm Sarutobi Asuma, your new sensei," he said. "Well go on, introduce yourselves."
Ino smiled in a sickingly nice way. "I'm Yamanaka Ino!"
"Akimichi Chouji," Chouji said through a mouthful of chips.
"Uzaki Akina," you said, and made a whistling noise through your teeth. A few seconds later, a large hawk swooped down and landed on your outstretched arm. "This is Kin. Say hi, Kin."
The hawk screeched and stretched his wings out before taking flight once more, in search of food.
"Troublesome girl..." Shikamaru mumbled. "Nara Shikamaru."
Asuma nodded. "Well I don't feel like doing anything today, so you guys just meet me tomorrow in the woods. We'll do an exercise then."
"That's it?" Ino asked. "You dragged us all the way out here to get our names and then say goodbye?"
He thought a moment, blowing some smoke out from his mouth before putting the cigarette back in. "Pretty much, yeah."
Shikamaru sighed, bored. "So troublesome..."
"Troublesome is such a troublesome word, isn't it?" You asked, raising an eyebrow with a small smile (I stole ur line, Morgan, hope ya don't mind!! I just loved it so much).
He rolled his eyes. "Very troublesome girl..."
You frowned and crossed your arms, irritated. *If anyone's troublesome, it's HIM. Of course, it's nice to hear someone being mean to me...Well that sounded odd...-sigh- I gotta admit, for someone so annoying and TROUBLESOME, he is kinda cute...*
Asuma threw his old cigarette to the ground and stepped on it, rubbing out the ashes, and then lit yet another one and stuck it in his mouth. "Well, I guess I'll see you guys tomorrow!"
Chouji stood up and turned to you. "Come on, Akina, I'll take you to my house and we can eat some more!" He offered as Asuma left.
"No thanks, Chouji," you replied simply. He sighed, nodded, and left.
Ino frowned. "Guys never ask me out to eat!"
"That's beccause if they do, they'll be bossed around all night," Shikamaru told her flatly.
She frowned at him before turning to you. "Come on, Akina, wanna go shopping?"
"Nope," you replied bluntly. "Got other things to do."
She huffed. "Well fine then. See you tomorrow.
You watched her go and then looked at Shikamaru, who had already begun to leave. "See you, Shikamaru."
"Bye," was all he replied.
"Well, a fine bunch I'm stuck with..." you muttered sarcastically.
"Miss Uzaki, Miss Uzaki!!"
"What?" You asked as one of the maids of your house ran up.
"Your father..." She panted. "Your father is home. He wants to see you."
"W-what, he's home!?" You yelped, shoving past her. "He's not supposed to be home for another two weeks!!" You dashed home, eyes wide.
*runs home quickly*
You opened the door to a big room, and looked at an older man behind a desk with black hair and jade-colored eyes like yours. Papers were scattered all around him, and he looked pretty distressed.
"Dad!" You walked up to the desk with a smile. "You're home early!"
He nodded gravely, not bothering to smile back. "Yes, Akina, I know. Listen, I have a proposition for you..."
You sighed, smile disappearing. "You never visit for fun and relaxation, it's always business with you...Ok, what is it?"
"I want you to take over the business starting today," he said. "You birthday is tomorrow, you'll be 13. That's old enough, and you're mature enough to handle it."
"What?" You said, startled. "Dad, I-"
"Of course, you'll have to quit this ninja nonsense, and I'll have to take you to other villages and introduce you to your partners, and-"
"Dad, hold it!" You said, putting your hands firmly on the desk in front of him. "First of all, I didn't agree. Second of all, I hardly know what the business is. Third, I am not quitting my 'ninja nonsense', and finally-why are you suddenly offering this after years of excluding me?"
He sighed. "You always manage to ask the one question I don't want to answer."
"That's my job," you said, entirely serious, starightening up and crossing your arms. "Now spill it."
"Very well. While I was away I was in Mist Village, doing some weaponry dealings. I met up with one man who seemed interested in my deals and he invited me for a drink. While I was there..." He sighed again. "I had one too many drinks, and I made a trade of weapons with him that was unfair. I'd lied about the swords I was giving him, saying they were new and strong when they were actually tainted and worn. The next morning I'd realized what I'd done, and immediantly left after being threatened by one of his men. Now, they're on their way here to kill whoever owns the business at the moment..."
"So you chickened out and tried to make me the owner of the business, to save your butt," you stated, feeling absolutely betrayed.
He nodded, then looked up at you. "So will you do it?"
"WHAT?!?!" You yelled, backing up to the dor slightly. "You'd still rather put me up on the target? What kind of father are you?!"
"So you're going to back down and let them kill me?" He asked, standing up and frowning accusingly. "What kind of daughter are you?"
"Don't you DARE play that game with me!" You snapped. "I am not my mother, I will not be your business pawn!!!"
"If you will not help, then you are not welcome here! I disown you!" He proclaimed.
"FINE!!" You shouted. "I'm leaving then!"
He slenched his fists and trembled with rage. "You are a terrible daughter!! You are a terrible woman! You will never be a good wife to any man!!!! I hope he finds you and kills you, that man, Zabuza! Him and his little boy weapon, Haku!"
You slammed the door to his office and stalked up to your room. You stuffed a few articles of clothing in your backpack, along with a few other essentials, and then you went back downstairs.
"Miss Uzaki, what's going on?" Syaoran asked as you walked by.
"I'm leaving!" You told him, still angry. "And I'm not coming back!"
"But, wait, Miss Uzaki, I need to ask you somethi-"
SLAM.
He sighed and looked down at the small, pitiful ring in a velvet box that he had kept in his pocket for the last month. A sad expression shadowed his face as he closed the box and walked back to the kitchen solemnly. "Father was right...I should've never fallen in love with my employer's daughter. It never works..."
*runs out*
"Look at me
I will never pass
For a perfect bride
Or a perfect daughter
Could it be,
I'm not meant
To play this part?
Now I see,
That if I were truly
To be myself
I would break my family's heart...
Who is that girl I see?
Staring straight
Back at me
Why is my reflection
Someone I don't know?
Somehow, I cannot hide
Who I am, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside..."
You ran and ran and ran, not caring where you were going. It didn't matter, you just needed to run...
Wham!
You stumbled back and looked up at Nara Yoshino, the woman you'd run into. You bowed apologetically. "Sorry, Mrs. Nara!!"
"Watch where you're going next time!" She said firmly, but you could see in her eyes that she didn't really mean it that harshly.
"I will, sorry again, Mrs. Nara," you said, walking past her. Suddenly you stopped. *What a minute...Nara...*
"Troublesome girl...Nara Shikamaru."
You turned back around. "WAit, Mrs. Nara...is your son Shikamaru?"
She nodded. "Yes, why? Did he hurt you, is that why you were crying a minute ago? Was he being a pest? Because if he was, I'll send that boy's head to-"
"No, no, no, it's just that we're on the same genin team now, Team Eight," you explained. "I'd never connected him with you."
"Oh. Well, if he makes a nuisance of himself, you let me know!" She instructed.
"Will do. Bye," you said, turning and walking away.
A moment later you arrived at your destination-a feild. You pulled your backpack off, laid it to the side, and then flopped down on your back to look at the sky.
"Wish I was a cloud..." You said with a sigh. "No business, no dad to bug me...no bothersome people, and..." You groaned in realization. "No worries about where the hell I'm going to live now...Great, juuuust great..."
"What are you talking about, troublesome girl?"
You looked over to the side and watched as Shikamaru laid down beside you and he stared up at the clouds.
"My dad. It's a long story...But to put it in a nutshell, I've been disowned and kicked out of my own home," you said. "My life just gets worse and worse..."
"Where are you going to stay?" He inquired, putting his hands behind his head.
"At the moment? Any carboard box I can find," you replied with a strained laugh.
"Troublesome predicament..."he commented. "...But...My mom figured out what happened after you ran into her."
"Hunh?"
"She asked some of her troublesome gossip friends after she saw you running and crying. Apparently the news of one of the richest kids in Konoha running out of her manion spreads quickly," he said, a flicker of amused light in his eyes.
"Oh, I see..." you muttered.
"Yeah...Anyways, my mom forced me to come find you...Troublesome woman...She sid you can stay in our attic, no charge."
"She did? Seriously?" You exclaimed, propping yourself up on your elbows to look at him with wide, hopeful green eyes.
He nodded. "Yeah."
You sighed, relieved. "Thank goodness, now I have one less thing to worry about."
He turned over on his side, away from you, muttering, "Yeah, and one more troublesome woman to annoy me..."
*He's being kind of nice, him and his family, letting me stay...And like I've thought before, he is cute...* You crawled to him, leaning over his shoulder and kissing him on the cheek. "Well, regardless of what you call me, this is one thankful troublesome woman."
His cheeks flared red and he stood up, turning away. *TROUBLESOME GIRL!!! I can't believe she did that! And I'm turning red...dammit...so troublesome...* "Yeah yeah. Come on, I'll take you home."
You stood up as well, grinning playfully as you took his hand and laced your fingers with his. "Ok, lead the way, Mr. Troublesome."
He rolled his eyes, but the red tint in his face darkened as he began to walk.
*Ayup, he's cute alright. This may be the first guy I've had a crush on in a looong time...* You thought, still grinning as you allowed him to pull you through Konoha, to your new home.
*walks with Shikamaru*
