Mummy knows best:
Gabriella was crying
Gabriella often cried. She didn't like it. Her mummy told her it was stupid, and that she would always be punished for crying, but somehow she could not stop the hot tears falling from her eyes. She had been told she ought to be gratefull for being alive, and Gabriella tried to be, but sometimes she couldin't. She knew that was disgracefull. Gabriella thought everything her mummy said was true.
Sometimes she wanted to stop breathing, to lie down and not see her mummy standing over her, or the darkness and spiders of her little room. Or the rats. Gabriella thought she had seen rats there, but maybe it was just a nightmare.
Everything was mixed in with nightmares.

"Gabriella, you stupid, stupid idiot. How could you go against my wishes?"
"Mummy, I'm sorry, I didn't..."
Gabriella's mother, a slim, dark haired woman, glared at her daughter. Her mother had been a widow for 5 years. She blamed her daughter for his death. It was her fault. Her daughter was flith. Stupid, worthless...
Gabriella's mother had left her daughter alone in the house all day. Gabriella had become very hungry. She was used to being hungry, but she did not like it. She had been told never to go into the kitchen, but as the day went on Gabriella grew very hungry. She needed to eat. So she finally went against her mummys word and tried to cook some toast. Then had eaten the burnt, stale bread and crept back to her room.
She had tried not leave anything out, but her mother had still found out.
"Gabriella, you went against my wishes!"
"Mummy, I am really really really sorry. Please ..."
"Gabriella, I really don't know why I keep you alive!"
Gabriella's mother grabbed a peice of glass she often threatend her daughter with and cut her daughters arm. She had never actually used it before.
Gabriella started crying harder, trying to wipe the cut with her hand.
"Gabriella, you diserve so much more than that, but I cannot be bothered to teach someone as stupid as you a lesson! You will stay in your room."
"But mummy, there are rats down there!"
"They are the only animals as worthless as you!"
Gabriella's mother dragged her to her tiny, dark room, and through her in.
Gabriella was crying, hot tears running down her cheeks. She was scared of the dark. She was scared of her mummy. Her arm hurt and it felt like it was getting worse. Gabriella didn't like feeling afraid. She was used to it, and did not really remember what it was like not feeling afraid, but she still was scared everytime.

"Gabriella, do you know what you did? Do you? Do you?"
"Mummy, I'm sorry..."
"Sorry? What does the word mean?"
Gabriella didn't know. She just knew it meant sorry.
"Your so stupid! Your a disgrace!"
Gabriella's mother grabbed a knife from the table and cute at her daughters hands, making her daughter scream with pain. Then her mother shoved her daughter to the floor and left the house.
Two school girls thought they heared screaming from one of the little houses at the end of the street, but didn't stop. They figured people had their own problems.
