When your family and boyfriend don't love you (5)
“BEERA! MAGGIE!” Their dad bellowed “Open this door RIGHT NOW!” Joshuas eyes slowly opened Where the hell am I? He wondered peering over to his left. Maggie was soundly sleeping next to him. Did I…do anything….to her….why the hell am I in Beeras room? He soon remembered what had happened and closed his eyes again. “OPEN UP THIS DAMNED DOOR BEERA!” Beeras father yelled
“It’s not locked.” She said, knowing then, that he was drunk. He opened the door, “WHAT THE HELL IS A BOY DOING IN YOUR ROOM WITH THE DOOR LOCKED?!” He bellowed “ ‘VE GOTTEN MY GIRL PREGNANT ‘AVE YOU? GET OUT OF HERE BASTARD! AND DON’T YOU EVER SET FOOT IN MY HOUSE AGAIN!” Joshua got up, extending his middle finger and holding it to his side. He looked to his left to see Beera sitting there watching him. He held up two fingers and mouthed ‘moro’ blowing her a fake kiss and leaving. Not really hurt at all. After he’d left Beeras father next threw anything he could find (which just happened to be Harry Potter 7) and threw it at the sleeping Maggie. Abruptly she woke up.
“Huh?” She asked feeling her forehead “What happened?”
“GOD DAMN IT TURNER” Beera yelled at him “She’s human you know? She’ll BRUISE!”
“Beera! DON'T CALL ME TURNER!” He roared hurling the 6th Harry Potter book at Beera. It hit her in the stomach. The 5th Harry Potter book hit her in the forehead, and a bit dizzily, she managed to dodge the 4th and 3rd. He didn’t see any point in throwing the 2nd and 1st since they wouldn’t do much damage to her.
“WELL YOU’RE NOT MUCH OF A FATHER ARE YOU? NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS DON’T THROW HARD COVER BOOKS WITH 766 FRIKKIN PAGES AT THEIR SLEEPING CHILDREN DO THEY? OR AT THEIR AWAKE CHILDREN FOR THAT MATTER. DO YOU THINK THAT’S NORMAL TURNER? DO YA? HUH? DIDN’T THINK SO!”
“Beera!” he screamed “Do NOT call me TURNER again!”
“IT’S YOUR NAME ISN’T IT?”
“SON OF A—”
“Hold it there Turner!” She said, cutting him off, not caring about what he said “You’re about to swear at yourself.” He started trudging out of the room knowing he’d lost
“GOD! WHY DIDN’T YOU GIVE ME A SON! BOYS AREN’T SASSY LIKE SOME PEOPLE!” He said and left. Beera walked over to Maggie.
“You alright?”
“Yeah,” She said “But is my forehead purple?”
“Purple like an eggplant.”
“So is yours.”
“Well it won’t be the first time we’ve skipped school.”
“Rest of the week?”
“It’s only tomorrow we’re skipping.”
“Sure.” Maggie said and sighed. She started singing.
Took my hand
Touch my heart
Held me close
You were always there
By my side
Night and day
Through it all
Baby come what may
Swept away on a wave of emotion
We were caught in the eye of the storm
And whenever you smile I can hardly believe that your mine
Beera joined in on the chorus, thinking of the way Joshua had ardently kissed her, thinking of when he had held her, and she poured her heart out onto his shirt from her eyes. She’d never really thought about him in this way before, he was really attractive, but God she thought Just a friend. Hot, but just a friend.
This love is unbreakable
It’s unmistakable
And each time I look in your eyes
I know why
This love is untouchable
A feeling my heart just can’t deny
And each time I look in your eyes, oh baby I know why
This love is unbreakable
Share the laughter
Share the tears
We both know
We’ll go on from here
‘Cause together
We are strong
In my arms
That’s where you belong
I’ve been touched by the hands of an angel
I’ve been blessed by the power of love
And whenever I smile I can hardly believe that your mine
This love is unbreakable
It’s unmistakable
And each time I look in your eyes
I know why
This love is untouchable
A feeling my heart just can’t deny
And each time I look in your eyes, oh baby I know why
This love is unbreakable
This love is unbreakable
Fire and flame
When all this is over
Our love still remains
This love is unbreakable
It’s unmistakable
Each time I look in your eyes
I know why
This love is untouchable
A feeling my heart just can’t deny
Each time you whisper my name oh baby I know why
‘Cause each time I look in your eyes oh baby I know why
This love is unbreakable…
They finished singing,
“How the heck do you know the whole song?” Beera asked
“Dunno…I just do. I like it. Beera let me ask you something.”
“Yeah?”
“Were you and Joshua in bed together earlier today?”
“NO! Where’d you hear that from?!”
“Just asking. He said you were in bed when he came out, and so I thought he meant, after he’d slept with you.”
“No, no, no! Don’t worry, I’m still a virgin. God I’m only 13! What do you think I am?”
“I was just wondering.”
“Yeah, ok.” She said and got up, going into Kyle and Samanthas’ room.
Samantha on one hip and Kyle on the other, she brought them into her room.
“Has mommy or daddy done anything to you guys?” she asked crouching down to their level.
“No.” Samantha said “I want candy.” Beera went on to her dresser and picked up a piece of gum for each of them.
“Ok,” she said “Tomorrow, we’re going to Aunt Vicky’s house. Ya?” She asked
“YAY!” Samantha said jumping up and down.
“Kyle, could you go downstairs and get the phone please?” She asked I can’t go down to the kitchen, dad’ll stab me. She thought. Kyle left the room walking a bit unsteadily as any three year old does. He came back holding the phone, and looking really frightened.
“What’s wrong Kyle?” Maggie asked
“Mommy and daddy.”
Shit. Beera thought
“What were they doing Kylie?” She asked, forgetting what Joshua had said about him thinking he was a girl
“Well, mommy wasn’t weawing any clothes…daddy sowta was…and they were on the couch…and daddy was sitting on mommy…what were they doing?”
Damn it! In the frikkin living room? They were…what the hell am I going to tell him they were doing?
“Daddy was probably…Erm…probably teaching mommy how to ride a ho—” Crap…can’t use the word ride “Daddy was probably teaching mommy how to wrestle. Ya. They were wrestling.”
“Oh.” He said
Oh thank God! Beera thought, knowing telling Kyle about sex at this age would probably turn him into a perverted jerk like Austin and his friends. “You guys are gonna sleep in here tonight. Ok?”
“Ok.” Sammy said. Beera took the phone from Kyle who had been sitting on Maggies bed. She walked over to look in her desk for the phone number of her Godmother who she called aunt. She dialed and listened.
“Hello?” The person said
“Hi Aunt Vicky.” Beera said
“ALICE! How are you? Haven’t heard from you guys in a while have I?”
“Alice? My name’s Beera? Remember? You’re my Godmother.”
“Yes, sorry, I…eh…I have…I have a,” She faked a cough “a niece named Alice. Sorry.”
“It’s alright. Do you think we could come visit tomorrow? I need to get the little ones away from the house?”
“Sure. Of course! I would love to see Kyle, Maggie and Sam again. Haven’t seen them since when?”
“Thanksgiving last year…”
“A year and a few months!”
“Yeah…so…we’ll be there around 2?”
“Sure darling.” She said “Even if you want to drop them off and go somewhere you can…tomorrow’s Friday though…”
“Oh…we don’t have school tomorrow…” She lied
“Hm…interesting.”
“Yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow then.”
“Yes, can’t wait!”
“Thank you.”
“Your welcome sweetie. Love you.”
“Love ya. Bye.”
“Bye.” Her Godmother finished and Beera hung up.
That night Beera couldn’t sleep at all. For one, she was on a mattress on the floor, but secondly, she was thinking about her parents…as if she could abide with another baby in the house if that was what was really going on. Would she have the patience? She quickly prayed,
God, please god, if your there listening, please strengthen me, me and my siblings…and help my parents…you know what to do in that department…frankly….I haven’t a clue how I’d help them….just please do…amen.
She looked around and saw Maggie looking down at her from her bed.
“You’re awake?” Maggie asked
“Yeah. I am.”
“Well can we talk?”
“Sure. What’s on your mind? You’ve been spaced out lately.”
“Well, you remember Devin? The guy in my class I told you about?”
“You like him?”
“No...it’s not that…he called me retarded…because I’m dyslexic…Bea, am I retarded? Am I mentally slow?”
“No you’re not. And don’t let anyone tell you you are. You just have a harder time reading, that’s all.”
“So I’m not stupid?”
“What’s the capital of Illinois?”
“Springfield. That was an easy one.”
“Colombia?”
“Bogota”
“See? You’re not stupid. Go to sleep.”
“Thanks Bea.”
“Yeah. Sure.” She looked at her watch that read 3:56am.
One hour to sleep.
