The day of the Yule Ball had finally come. I didn’t wake up until 11 am. I was so excited about tonight, I know it is just a dance but it was something to look forward to. I got up and took my shower. I put on something comfortable since tonight I would be in a dress and heels. I pulled my hair back and didn’t bother with the make up. I hung around my room until it was time for lunch and then I went up to the Great Hall. I took my usual seat next to Severus.
“Where were you at breakfast?” He asked. He didn’t look up from his plate.
“I slept in till 11, so I just decided to come around here now for lunch.” I said. He looked at me for the first time today and nearly spit his pumpkin juice on me.
“What is with this?” He asked still staring at me.
“What?” I asked.
“No make up, hair pulled back, and you aren’t even wearing black. You okay? Did someone die?” He said. I jabbed him with my fork.
“Shut up. I don’t look that bad.” I said. He smirked and I jabbed him harder with the fork. After lunch was over I went back to my room to get ready for the night. I pulled out my black and white dress and laid it on the bed. I found my heels and placed them infront of my dress on the floor. I sat down on my bed and Artemis jumped up onto my lap. “Well, tonight is the dance, and I don’t even have a date.” I said. Artemis let out a sad meow. Artemis had known Alan for all his life. Believe it or not but I have had Artemis since my 6th year at Hogwarts. My parents bought him for me after Lazer, my pet owl, died. I had always wanted a cat anyways. After Alan died I always had Artemis. I can tell he misses Alan too. I pet Artemis on the head. “It’s ok, I know he is with me, he is always with me.” I said. He purred and jumped down. I laid back on my bed and waited. I must have dozed off because I was watching the clock and it went from 2 pm to 6 pm in the blink of an eye. I got up and slipped into my dress and shoes. I waved my wand and my make up was applied and my hair went up into a very pretty up do. I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled. The only thing that looked out of place was my scar. I pressed the tip of my wand against the top of the scar and ran the wand down it. The scar slowly faded and wasn’t there anymore. Wow do I look different now, I thought. I could always have erased the scar but I never wanted to because of Alan. I smiled, I looked perfect now. I walked out of my room and up to the Great Hall. All the professors were gathered outside of the doors talking about what was going on tonight. I walked over to them and they all looked at me and gasped. I smiled at them. It feels so good to look normal for once, I thought. I looked at them all. I spotted Snape who noticed I was looking at him. He smiled at me and it made me blush. He looked so handsome, he had black dress robes and his hair was very clean and neat. Then Professor McGonagall came over to me.
“You look lovely dear.” She said.
“Thank you.” I said with a wide grin.
“Listen, the teachers are going to start the ball with a waltz. You will be dancing with Snape.” She explained. I nodded. Shit, I don’t remember how to waltz! Snape must have read my mind because he came over.
“You can’t dance can you?” He said sniggering.
“No, I can dance, I can’t waltz.” I said. How embarrassing, he probably thinks you are a moron.
“That’s alright. I happen to be a very skilled dancer, just follow my lead.” He said. I nodded and sniggered at this. Snape a dancer? I did not see that one coming. We all lined up and I took Snape’s arm. The clock struck 7 o clock and the doors to the Great Hall opened. All the students were inside. We all took the dance floor as the music began. It was a moderate tempo piano type of song. It was very beautiful sounding. Then we began to dance. I had no idea what I was doing. I was trying my best to keep up with Snape but I kept stumbling over his feet.
“Sorry.” I said about a million times. He just smirked. After a while I started to catch on. I was going right along with Snape. He twirled me when I noticed the students started to join in on the dance. Snape and I were doing quite well. He was right when he said he could dance. After a few minutes of swirling around the room the song was over.
“Not too bad.” Snape complimented. I blushed. He left me on the dance floor and left into a crowd of people. I had no idea where he went. Great, now you have no chance of a date, I thought. I was about to take my seat at the sidelines and watch the others dance when Rhiley and Hermione rushed over dragging their dates behind them. Hermione was with Viktor Krum and Rhiley was with Draco Malfoy. Draco Malfoy, what the hell? I thought.
“Nice dancing even though you must have crushed Snape’s feet about 10 times.” Rhiley said laughing.
“You noticed that?” I said. Hermione nodded. I just chuckled.
“Come on, you have to dance with us.” Hermione said pulling me to my feet. I didn’t argue, I needed some fun right now. The song Reptilia came on by The Strokes. It was definitely a fun dancing song. We all went to the center of the floor and started to dance to the beat of the guitar playing [if you know the song Reptilia, I’m sure you can imagine a fun dance to that! If you don’t know it go listen to it! Lol]. We were all having a great time. For once the only thing on my mind was the night ahead. I was having so much fun with them. We were dancing for quite a while when I told Rhiley and Hermione I needed a break. I walked over to the side and took a seat. I watched them all dance for a while and then after having a few drinks I decided to go back out on the floor. As I got up the song Comatose by Skillet came on. I loved this song. I was making my way to the floor when someone grabbed me by the wrist. I turned around to see Snape standing there.
“Dance with me?” He said.
“Yea sure! I hope you can keep up.” I said with smirk.
“Keep up? Let’s just hope you dance better than you waltz.” He said. We went on to the floor and he grabbed me and pulled me close. We started to dance. It was a wicked kind of dance. He spun me around and then pulled me back in with his face very close to mine. We were doing great, taking our turns showing off. Then I realized a lot of people were not dancing but watching us instead. He spun me for one last time and the song ended with me in his arms. Everyone began to clap. I turned red and broke from Snape’s arms and walked over to Rhiley and Hermione.
“Wow, all I can say is wow.” Rhiley said. I laughed and sat down with them. We were talking for a while. I kept looking over at Snape who looked away each time. Was he watching me? I thought. Then the person in charge of music made an announcement.
“We are starting our karaoke now, so anyone interested come up here.” He said. Then Rhiley jumped up.
“You are doing this!” She said dragging me up to the stage.
“No, no, no I can’t sing.” I argued. She continued to drag me to the stage.
“Ok she is singing Heaven [Candle Light Remix] by DJ Sammy.” She told the man in charge. He nodded and Rhiley pushed my up onto the stage. Oh God this is our song, I can’t do this, I thought. I took the stage and the song began. The whole place was watching me. Then I started…

I felt a tear go down my cheek. I wanted to break down here but then something happened. I changed. I looked over at Snape who was staring at me and continued singing.

When I was finished, the whole place began to cheer. I actually did really well. I smiled and left the stage. I walked over to Rhiley.
“I will never do that again.” I said.
“You were great!” She said and she gave me a hug. I hugged her back. Then I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turned around and was face to face with Snape.
“Nice job.” He said. I looked away and began to blush.
“Thank you.” I said. He nodded and walked away.
“Wow it isn’t obvious that you like him.” Hermione joked. I snorted out a laugh. I sat down as the rest of them continued to dance. After a while the song Anywhere by Evanescence came on. All the couples got together and began to dance while I sat there alone and watched. I put my head down and looked at the floor when I noticed someone was standing over me.
“Dance?”
I looked up to see Snape standing there with his hand out. I smiled and got up taking his hand. He led me out onto the dance floor and we began to slow dance together. I rested my head on his chest as we swayed smoothly back and forth. After the song came to an end I looked up into Snape’s eyes. We stood there for a moment just looking at each other.
“Will you take a walk with me?” He asked. I nodded and followed him out of the Great Hall. I looked behind me and saw Hermione and Rhiley. Hermione just smiled at me but Rhiley gave an obnoxious thumbs up and wink. Snape lead me out side and into the rose garden. We were surrounded by beautiful roses and fairies. He led me over to a bench and sat down. I took my place next to him.
“What is it?” I asked.
“I just wanted to know…if you are having…a good time.” He said. He looked up at me. A smile spread across my face.
“Yea I am! Thank you for dancing with me.” I said. He smiled.
“I know you are probably thinking of Alan but I just wanted to make you happy.” He said. He stared into my eyes for a moment. He placed his hand on my cheek making me blush a deep shape of red. He leaned in and kissed my on the lips. I was sort of dumbstruck for a moment, but I kissed him back. When we pulled away I looked at him. He smiled and wrapped his arms around me. I huddled up close to him. Then we heard something in the bush behind us move. Snape jumped up with his wand and blasted at the bush.
“Ten points from Ravenclaw, Fawcett!” Snape snarled as a girl ran past him. “And ten points from Hufflepuff too, Stebbins!” Snape hissed as the boy went after her. I laughed. “What is so funny?” Snape said looking at me.
“You just took points from them when they were doing the same as us.” I said laughing even more. I was over come by a ridiculous fit of giggles. I kept laughing and Snape just stared at me. After I calmed down I spoke, “Sorry I’m not used to this feeling.”
“What feeling?” Snape said with a smirk.
“This one.” I said as I leaned in and kissed him. He hugged me in his arms for a moment and when we pulled back we decided to head back to the ball. I took Snape’s arm as he led me into the hall. I ran over to Rhiley and Hermione at first chance.
“Well?” Hermione asked eagerly.
“We…kissed.” I said as I turned red.
“That is disgusting and great at the same time.” Rhiley said. I laughed and walked back to Snape.
“It is late. I think I am going to go to bed.” I said. He nodded and we went down into the dungeon. When we reached my door I looked up at him. “Thank you, for everything.” I said.
“You are welcome.” He said as he bent down to give me one last kiss. Then he turned and went down the hall. I went into my room and quickly changed into my pajamas. I laid in bed thinking of the night. It is going to be nice to have someone now, I thought as I drifted off to sleep.
