"Why can't I sleep?" thought Crystal. Crystal had been staying in the desert fortress for a couple a weeks and hadn't been able to sleep at all. Ganondorf had assigned hera room to stay in and that was where she tossed and turned in a vain effort to rest. Crystal got up, and quietly went down the coridoors to the main entrance. It was a beautiful night, and she wanted to stargaze by the coastline.
She never got there. Once outside, Crystal felt dizzy for a brief moment, and fell straight into quicksand. Everything went dark. Crystal soon found herself falling though the lose sand. Soon afterwards, she stopped falling. Opening her eyes, she saw a huge underground cavern. One glance told Crystal that this was no trite caven. Everything, except Crystal and the sand, was either black or white. No grays, reds, blues, greens, or any other colours. In the distance, you could spot a underground lake and a immense tower in the center of the lake.
"Is there even an exit out of here?" thought Crystal after searching for a way out for a few hours. She had checked out every area in the cavern execept the tower. One thing she did find was a well-hidden bridge leading to the tower. "Maybe it leads to the surface?" pondered Crystal. She headed for the tower.
Entering, Crystal could tell that this place was strange. Everything, despite the fact it looked to be from ancient times, was untouched. If this place was so old, why was all of its gold, silver, and gems still there? One would think that thieves would stolen them by now. Yet, they were all here, untarished in any way. "Weird ... The bridge wasn't hidden that well," thought Crystal. Either way, Crystal could not find a egress. Noticing a staircase to her left, Crystal went up it. Maybe it lead to the exit?
Despite Crystal's hopes, the stariway wasn't a egress. Instead, it stopped at a locked door. "Now what?" uttered Crystal, who started to lean againest the door. Click! Crystal jumped. The door was now unlocked. Crystal circumspectly accessed to new room. It was apparent that this wasn't the egress. It was was, however, a bedroom. Crystal espied a dresser, a bed, a veil surronding the bed, a vanity, a desk, and a chair. Shifting the veil to the side, Crystal soon relized that someone was in the unusual bed (the sheets and the bed post had a weird pattern on them). Crystal stepped forward, but slipped on the veil. Crystal grabbed the sheets. It didn't break her fall, but caused a blinding light for a terse moment to fill the room.
"Huh?" reacted Crystal. "What was that about?" she thought. Crystal was about to leave when she heard movement in the bed. "Who are you and why do you have my mask? (Yawn)"
"I'm Crystal Mionat and who are you?"
"My name is Lorrayne Solt. Call me Rayne. So, why do you have my mask? (Yawn) Are you a friend of Alexandria? Or maybe Betricet?"
"Who?"
"My two best friends. So, how did you get part of my gift to Alexandria if you don't even know her? I doubt Alexandria could ever lose it."
"I picked them up on a street by my house if you must know."
"Why was it there?"
"I don't know. It just was."
"What did you do to it?"
"Do what to it?"
"Why does it appear to be slightly damaged?"
"It was like that when I got it."
"That's weird."
"What do you mean?"
"I don't remember being here, or falling asleep, either. The last thing I remember is meeting with Betricet for a walk. (Yawn)"
"Exactly how long have you been asleep?"
After around three hours of talking with Rayne, Crystal found out that she was creature who could control reality when she was asleep. She could also control what she dreams about if she wants to, which is how she made both the Mask of Sadness and the Mask of Joy. The thing is, howbeit, her ability makes her extremly sleepy, no matter how much she rests. She didn't know where they were or how to get out, but she could use her power to get them out. Rayne also explained the reason behind Crystal's lack of sleep.
"It's probably due to me being asleep. Because it was made by my dreams, it reacts to them," elucidated Rayne when Crystal brought up the subject.
"Where have you been! And who is this?" shouted Dark Link when Crystal and Rayne went to the fortress. Crystal disappeared last night and Dark Link had gotten into trouble for it. (It's now dusk of the next day since this chapter began.)
"My new friend here is Rayne. She's staying with me," answered Crystal.
"Relax, I'm not going to cause any trouble," stated Rayne.
Dark Link observed the sleepy-eyed girl before him. She was wearing a black dress decorated with a mysterious white design with some sort of symbol on it. Her hair was also black. She had gray eyes with dark circles under them. She didn't look like dangerous. "I guess she can stay, but she's your problem."
"Thanks! I'll now show her to my room," replied Crystal.
Something else was bothering Dark Link. When Crystal vanished, he felt anxious over her return. He felt dread over the thought of her not returning and when she did return, he felt a tremendous relief. He didn't know what was wrong with him, but he couldn't lose her, no matter what.
