Jared’s POV

I take a deep breath before I start. Kylie’s beautiful blue eyes are flaring slightly with anger. I hate it when she’s mad at me, I feel so…so…I can’t even find a word to describe how I feel.

“Kylie, you know the summer camp I went to for two weeks last summer?”

“Yeah, the sleep away one. It was only year ago,” Kylie says.

“Well, Hank was there too, I remember him.”

“And you’re saying I shouldn’t date him because you went to the same summer camp?” Kylie asks, the anger in her eyes changing to confusion.

“Well he sort of had a really bad reputation,” I say.

“And by that you mean…”

I doubt that you want to know.

“Just bad if you know what I mean. You have to stay away from him.”

Kylie thinks about what I have said for a moment before her mouth drops open.

Yes, now she’ll realize her true feelings for me and we’ll live happily ever after.

“Jared, you don’t have to make up stories, even if I do go out with Hank, I’ll still have time for my best friend. You get like this every time I have a boyfriend,” Kylie says, shaking her head.

“What? Kylie, no, I-”

“It’s okay Jared, I understand. Now I have to go get ready. Dad wants me to meet at that Italian restaurant tonight for a family dinner. You can leave whenever you want,” Kylie says before leaving the room.

I slump back onto the couch and run my hands through my hair. Dammit, how was I going to stop Kylie from getting close to Hank? I grab the remote and flip it to a music video channel.

“Next up we have David Archuleta,” the announcer says.

Hmm, that name rings a bell. Oh yeah, he was that American Idol guy that Kylie told me about. I watch as the music starts playing.

I watched as the television screen darkened. I flipped it off and left the house, thinking about the lyrics.
