In The Night-1
Chapter 1 : In The Night-1
This is another story I’m doing for school, it's kind of my own take on blood ties. I've decided to put up the first bit and I might post the rest depending on what kind of response I get, so if you want to read the rest message me. I didn't know what Coreen's boyfriend was called so I just came up with something.
New Year’s Eve. A time for celebrating, right? Well, I’d remember this night for the rest of my life.
It was about four in the afternoon when I got a call from Dexter.
“Have you only just woken up?! My God Becky, I’ve never known such a la-“
“Well, hello to you too!” I interrupted him, sarcasm dripping from every word. “Why have you woken me up so early?”
“It’s four o’clock in the afternoon!” he exclaimed.
“Yeah well, I’m really jetlagged.” I giggled
“Well, we’re having a party tonight to celebrate New Year, plus you finally coming back from Toronto; we’re going to that new club in town. Everyone from work is coming.”
“Yeah great, sure thing.” I answered still half asleep.
“You might meet someone nice there!” he added.
“I don’t have time for men!” I shouted down the phone.
“Whatever you say, be there by seven.” he said hanging up the phone. Three hours to get ready. That should be long enough.
Getting off the bus I stopped in front of a huge building with a massive banner on the front saying “Grand opening tonight” and underneath in neon letters was the name of the club “Poison”. It was huge. Compared to all the other clubs around here this was paradise. The front was painted black and it had a white swirl pattern across one side. The name was also white but was lit from within with a deep red.
I strolled past the queue with a smug look on my face as I didn’t have to wait to get in.
Inside it was busier than any other club I had seen; so many people had turned up for opening night. Suddenly I was hit by some crazy woman who kept squealing.
“Becky! Your finally back from Toronto, I’ve missed you so much!” She screeched into my ear.
“Oh my God Coreen! It’s been ages. How are you and Bill?” I asked hugging my best friend.
“We’re fine, but enough about me, did you meet any cute guys in Toronto?”
“You know I was there studying for work.” I said.
“Well, you never know.” She chuckled nudging me with her elbow. “Come on everyone’s waiting for you.”
We had been dancing for ages so I decided to go and get the drinks for everyone. I’d just picked up the drinks and turned around to go back to the others when I was pushed to the floor dropping them.
“Ouch, that hurt.” I moaned
“Oh! I’m so sorry; I didn’t mean to bump into you.” said a voice from up above me. I looked up to see a guy who looked about 23 and was unbelievably handsome. He had wavy brown hair that fell just above his shoulders, but the thing I noticed the most was his gorgeous hazel eyes.
“Want a hand getting up?” He asked giving me his hand. As I grabbed it I felt a searing pain spread through my arm, I looked down to see it covered in blood. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed that the guy had frozen and was just staring at my arm, and then suddenly he disappeared.
“Well, that was strange.” I mumbled. I walked back over to the others to see if someone else could get the drinks while I went to clean up my arm.
“How the hell did you manage to do that?” Coreen asked looking at my arm.
“Some guy bumped into me while I was carrying the drinks, so I dropped them all over the floor and when I was getting up I must have cut my arm.” I explained
“Was he cute?”
“Is that all you can think about?!” I groaned waving my arms in the air. “He was cute though.” I admitted.
The rest of the night carried on like normal and I totally forgot about what happened.
The next day at work was like any other day, sitting around looking at dead bodies, you know, the usual. Until Sam came into the room.
"Beckywe need you, now.”
“Why, what’s going on?” I asked getting up from the desk and walking over to him.
“You know you told me about that murder victim you were looking at last week? Well there’s been another and I think it might be the same person.” He explained.
“Let’s go” I followed him out of the room and to his car. When we arrived there were police cars everywhere. Sam led me into the building and towards the top floor. I opened the door and was overcome by the amount of blood that was there.
“You okay?” He asked worry in his voice.
“Yeah I’m alright; I just didn’t expect so much blood.” I replied while holding my nose.
“I really should be used to it by now” I laughed.
I walked over to the body to try and see where all this blood could have come from, but I froze when I saw his face. It was Bill, Coreen’s boyfriend.
