Eliza's Story- Just a Memo, but Please Read!!
Chapter 2 : Elixa's Story- A Lord of the Rings Extension Part 10
OK, Eliza has been asked to attend a counsel in the morning with Master Elrond. Ready? It’s exactly 7:55 in the morning. Of course there are no clocks in Rivendell, so we are just estimating!!
Eliza woke up the next morning. She considered sleeping in, but remembered that there was something important she had to do. While she got dressed (in new clothes the Elves supplied), Eliza suddenly remembered that she was supposed to go to a counsel this morning! Speeding up her dressing progress, Eliza hurried out of her door and ran through the hallways. She hoped she would have enough time.
Finally, she reached the patio. She was on time, but only just. Elrond had not arrived, and there were a few seats that were not yet filled.
Eliza took a seat on the outside of the ring of seats next to Frodo.
“Where have you been?” he asked, surprised.
“Sorry, forgot,” Eliza said, catching her breathe from the run. “I… lost track of time.”
“No kidding,” Frodo muttered as Elrond entered.
“Welcome, everyone,” Elrond said. Eliza felt suddenly nervous. What was this counsel about? Gandalf had not said.
As if he could read Eliza’s mind, Elrond said, “We are here today to answer the threat of Mordor.”
There was the answer to the question. The Ring. Of course it couldn’t stay here! So, who would take the Ring to destroy it? ‘That’s what we’re going to figure out! Duh!’ Eliza thought.
“The only reasonable choice is to destroy the Ring. One of you must cast the Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. It is where the Rings was made, it is where it must be destroyed,” Elrond was now saying.
“Why not use the Ring against the Enemy?” an only too familiar voice suggested.
Dreading to see what she thought she would see, Eliza looked around for the voice. Of course, across from her was Boromir. Eliza had not noticed him when she had come.
“We cannot use it. None of us can. The power would be too overwhelming.” said Strider, who was also in sitting across from Eliza.
Boromir was about to say something, but an Elf spoke up first.
“The only choice we have is to destroy the Ring, as Elrond said,” the Elf argued.
Eliza looked over at him. He was a very handsome Elf, and Eliza couldn’t help but stare. Frodo looked sideways at Eliza. She snapped back to real life. “What?” she whispered innocently to Frodo. He just rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to Elrond. Eliza smiled and also looked at Elrond, who was now speaking.
“Thank you for your view on this problem, Legolas,” Elrond said.
‘So his name is Legolas?’ Eliza thought. ‘Nice name....’
“Before we go any farther, we must decide who will take the Ring to Mordor, for that is where Mount Doom is,” Elrond said.
No one seemed willing to do this, and Eliza didn’t blame them. She wouldn’t want to leave this beautiful place either. Then she realized that they were also asking her to volunteer her life for the Ring. Before she could think anymore, Boromir stood up. ‘Oh, great,’ Eliza thought.
“I am asking you to only but lend me the Ring,” he said. “It would give us the strength to defend my city.”
‘Oh, great, so now he is a king also? I’d probably have hung myself a couple years ago if I lived in that city.’ Eliza thought to herself.
“You would draw too much attention to your… city if you have the power to make your city unbeatable and perfect,” Strider said.
Boromir sat back down, looking daggers at Strider.
“Thank you Aragorn. I, too, agree that using the Ring could only cause trouble,” Elrond agreed.
Eliza wondered why Elrond had called Strider ‘Aragorn’. Perhaps he had a different identity; after all, Eliza had never thought that ‘Strider’ was really his name. Her attention was suddenly drawn to a Dwarf, who had said something that she didn’t hear and had gotten up, taken out his axe and swung at the Ring that was set on the table in the center of the patio.
There was a big bang, the Dwarf was thrown backward, and the Ring sat there on the table, still and unharmed.
“The Ring cannot be destroyed by any means that we here have,” Elrond said as the Dwarf picked himself up and returned, slightly dazed, to his seat. “As I said before, there are no other ways to destroy it, other than the fires of Mount Doom. We must now decide who will carry out this duty.”
There was another silence as everyone paused to think about Elrond’s request.
Then Frodo spoke.
Dun, dun, dun! You of course probably know what’s going to happen, but I needed to end the long story with a cliff-hanger!! Please keep reading and message and rate! Thanks!!
