Sugar Skulls - Envy On The Coast
“Wow, Panda. We’re a whole five minutes ahead of schedule. Five!” I said sarcastically.
“Yes! On time for once!” He grabbed my hand as I got of the car. “Come on! Let’s go!”
“Calm down there little Peter. Hey, there are the rest of the guys.”
“Yeah, I have Eryn Smith in my head now thanks to you.” Joe said to me as he got out of the car.
“Yes!” I smiled.
“She is forever Eryn Smith from now on.” Pete told them what happened. “She didn’t know I had Shawn on the phone while she was singing.” I hit him in the arm again while the guys laughed. “Ow!”
“Are you guys going to just stand out there or come in?” Shawn yelled from the front door.
“Shawn! Just telling the guys about Miss. Eryn Smith here.” Pete told him. I rolled my eyes and Shawn smirked. See! Never. Gonna. Live. It. Down. The guys and I walked to the door and they gave each other hugs. I couldn’t even look at him; I was so embarrassed.
“Ah, yes. Andrea. Nice to finally talk to you in person. Well, for more than two seconds at least. It was at Warped in Chicago when we met right?”
“Yeah. Long time ago. It works by the way. Orange juice and Red Bull.” I told him as I shook his hand.
“I knew it would.” He smiled. Adorable smile.
“What are you two talking about?” Pete asked.
“Oh, Eryn Smith can’t disclose that information. Hm... I like having a double personality.”
“Aw, Tink!”
“Don’t ‘Aw, Tink’ me, Lewis.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Pete said sadly. He knew I was kidding though.
“Lewis?” Shawn asked as we took a seat at a table with hundreds of paintings and drawings on it. Shawn’s loft was amazing. The furniture was retro and there was art all over the walls.
“Yeah, middle name. No one can call me that save for Tink. She runs my life. She can call me whatever the hell she wants.” Pete told Shawn. I wish I could call you mine Peter. Jeez, I’m so cheesy. I can’t help it; he’s my one and only.
“And Tink?”
“As in Tinkerbell.” I told Shawn.
“Oh! Peter Pan and...” He pointed to Pete and then to me. “Tinkerbell! See, I drank my Red Bull and orange juice today!” Forty-five minutes had passed and they had gotten about halfway through the booklet. It was entertaining to watch Shawn draw. He threw out the ones that were “horrible” and kept the “good” ones. I thought they were all incredible. One especially caught my eye. Shawn named it “Beautiful, Lovely, Lost.” It was going to be used as one of the backgrounds to a song Peter had wrote about some girl. Okay, well, they were almost all about a girl but this was the love song on the record. The drawing was of a girl who looked like she had everything except for one thing: love. I was absolutely transfixed with it. I couldn’t figure out why though. There was just something about the girl.
“Hello? Tink, come out of dream land!” I heard Andy say as he waved his hand in front of my face.
“Huh?”
“Hey, daydreamer, me and Patrick are going to go to another interview. You wanna come?” Andy asked me.
“No, I’m cool. I’m gonna daydream some more.”
“Kay, call us when you’re done. We’re taking Shawn to dinner.” Patrick said.
“What? Really?” Shawn asked.
“Yeah, dude. This is amazing artwork.” Pete told him.
“Bye guys! Bye Eryn Smith!” Andy and Rick called on their way out.
“So you’re using this for that song?” I asked then pointing to the drawing I was in love with.
“Yeah, its perfect for that one.” Pete said.
“Good, cause I’m in love with it. It’s amazing.”
“She’s beautiful.” Shawn said.
“Unbelievably beautiful.” Pete said.
“She looks like Tink...” Joe said.
“What?! Does not.” I yelled like a five year old.
“Dude, it’s so you. She has your eyes! No one else in the world has your eyes. It’s you!” Joe defended.
“Hey, Andrea, did you bring me that CD? Can I hear it?” Shawn said changing the subject. It doesn’t look like me that much, right?
“Oh yeah. Here.” I grabbed it from my bag and put it in Shawn’s hand. Shawn wouldn’t draw me! He doesn’t even know me. Must be one of the many girls he talks about in his songs.
“Uh, I’m going to get something to drink.” Pete said.
“Fine, no one listen to me then!” Joe complained. AWKWARD MOMENT... Then I heard the sounds of Infinity On High fill the room.
“Wow, this is amazing guys!” Shawn said.
“Thanks!” Pete and Joe said proudly. Shawn went back to drawing and I went back to watching him. I loved how he put all of himself into drawing. He would bite his lip when he was trying to get things just right, or when he would second guess himself. Then he would blow his hair out of his face when he was frustrated, only to have it fall back into place. Then he’d tap his pencil on the table when he didn’t know what to draw next. Hey! Why am I paying this much attention to him anyway? Peter’s my one and only. Pete was across the table from me, telling Shawn what the picture should look like, then going back to his Sidekick. Joe was outside on the phone. So I decided to not be such a loser, stop staring at Shawn and get on my Sidekick. Ten minutes went by and no one had said a word.
Out of no where Shawn yelled, “Gah! You people and your Sidekicks!” Pete and I practically fell out of our chairs; he scared us so bad. Shawn was laughing at us.
“Not cool, Shawn!” Pete said.
“For real!” I agreed.
“Well, I’m done drawing. I had to get your attention somehow.”
“A simple ‘Hey guys, I’m done’ wouldn’t have worked?” I asked him.
“Well, regular, sane people would do that. I happen to be neither.” He smiled. “I’m like no one you’ve ever met.” Obviously. He’s way hotter than anyone I’ve ever met. What?? No, I didn’t just say that...
“Dude, I can’t believe this is going to be our CD! You did such a good job Shawn.” Pete said excitedly.
“Thanks for letting me do it.”
“Are you two losers done? I’m hungry.” I joked. “Just kidding. You did an amazing job Shawn.”
“Aw, stop it guys. You’re making me blush.” Shawn said in a flamboyant voice. Joe finally came in and thanked Shawn for the awesome work as well. “So all I have to do is paint and color it. I should have it done by Monday.”
“Cool, can’t wait to see it finished, but now we must go eat! I’m fucking starving!” Pete told Shawn.
“Where do you guys wanna eat?” I asked the boys.
“Tick-Tock!” Pete and Trohman yelled.
“Of course... I’ll call Rick and Hurley.” I opened up my Sidekick and noticed a text message. Then I saw who it was from. “Oh no...” Peter asked what was up, seeing the worried look on my face. “Uh, nothing...” I called Rick and told him to meet us at the Tick-Tock Dinner. I told Pete to drive this time. I had to read the text and figure out what I was going to do about the trouble it was going to bring. I sat up front with Peter. Shawn was in the back and Joe was following us. Then I read it...
