Kandi POV

“No, I’m positive the exits this way,”

“And I’m positive that it’s this way!”

I sighed in frustration. My cousin and I probably wouldn’t have been in this mess if I hadn’t been attracted to that little monkey. Who wouldn’t be? It’s not everyday you get to see a monkey in a cute little hat dancing around to some silly music. Actually, I don’t blame myself, not at all. The blame goes completely to the monkey. He took advantage of my idiotness and ran away knowing, yes knowing, that I would follow him! Duh! Some monkeys are just plain mean. Have they no shame?

“Kandi, I know what you’re thinking,” Becca slapped my forehead, “Don’t even think about blaming the monkey! You were the one that chased it around! It was your fault and you know it! Just think of the trouble we’ll be in when we get out of here.”

I winced. “You really don’t have to be so harsh. By the way, your hands are really rough! I bet there’s a big red mark on my head now.” She rolled her eyes and kept walking. “I said that the exits the other way!”

Kandi let out a frustrated sigh. “Just to remind you, you’re an idiot and have no sense of direction!”

“At least I don’t shout everything I say to my little cousin,”

“Oh, yeah, by two days!” she scoffed.

“So, it’s still younger by two days.”

“Why don’t we stop and just get on with it.”

“Agreed,” I trailed behind Becca, stopping once in a while to look at the walls. This was a BIG mansion and we didn’t know how we got in here. I had my eyes focused on the monkey; Becca was intent on catching me. Not only that, but we still had to find the monkey, and I was not coming back in here to look for him, so I might was well kill two birds with one stone.

“Whose house is this anyway?” Becca asked me. I shrugged my shoulders. “What?”

“I DON’T KNOW! Why don’t you just turn around?”

“And you said I was the one that screamed everything!” She pushed her lightly with a smirk on her face.

“Wait, check this out!” I shouted to her. She turned around. I lifted the white curtain away to reveal a room with windows all around.

“Huh.”

“That’s a beautiful piano!” I could see my eyes sparkling at that very minute. It was really a beautiful piano.

“I really don’t care. It’s a piano in a room with no doors. No doors mean that it’s not the way out. Besides, you shouldn’t be peeking through other people’s houses.” Her voice was very monotone and uninterested.

“But-“

“No buts.” She started walking and I followed her, glancing back at the piano.

What should I do? Either I go with my cousin and probably find a way out, or I play the piano of my dreams and risk losing her.

When we rounded a corner I stopped. I wonder if she would notice. I took a sticky note and a pencil out of my jacket pocket.

I’m playing piano! J

I gave it a quick kiss (lol, I’m simply bonkers) and stuck it on the wall. Turning around quietly I went down the hallway, passing the numerous doors. There it was the magnificent piano. It looked lonely. I could make it feel better.

I walked up to it. It was so white and I was so colorful. I bet it looked like I didn’t belong there. I was wearing some faded blue jeans; some holes around the knee, a simple black jacket with pooh bear covering it, and pair of colorful splatter slip ons. Everything in this room was white. The piano itself, the bench seat, the walls, the curtains, the window frames were all white.

But that piano needed me.

I trailed my finger over the dusty white keys. “You look like you’ve been alone for a while.” I ignored the dust on the seat and sat down carefully. I could feel the excitement growing inside of me. Pushing the C note I held my breath. The sound seemed to echo around the whole room. It was breathtaking. I put both of my hands on the keys and without really knowing, I started to play a little melody. The music was beautiful. I could feel a smile spread on my face as I lifted my head and closed my eyes, listening to the music surround me.

When I thought I had reached the end of the song I waited a second before lifting my hands. I gazed longingly at the piano. How nice it would be to have enough money to buy a piano like this, but it’s been a while since I’ve even touched a piano.

I heard the rustle of the curtain moving up.

“What do you think you’re doing?”
