I had always hated flying on planes ever since I was a child. That was why I had convinced Heather to book the same flight as I did up to Montreal. Since she lived in New York, and I lived in New Jersey it wasn’t much further for her. She was sadistic though. Every time there was turbulence I would cling to the armrest like a cat stuck in a tree, and she would just laugh at me.
“If we weren’t in a plane full of muggles…” I began.
“But we are.” She smirked.
I was so happy to feel the familiar bump of hitting the runway I could have jumped for joy.
Everyone watched us get off the plane, Heather’s hair was like a beacon to God in all its turquoise glory, and it wasn’t enough that it was turquoise it had to be dreads.
I sighed and swept my long strawberry blonde curls behind my shoulder as we were waiting for our pets. Her Bengal cat was the first one to be unloaded and then I heard a loud familiar squawking.
“Oh Malificent!” I said.
Several people had turned to watch at this point as I took the birdcage and put it on a trolley.
“You know. I think most people would expect me to have a raven, and you to have a cat.” Heather said
“Shows you what they know. Have you heard from Brielle yet?” I asked.
Heather flipped out her cell phone and checked, “Nope. She should be landing soon though. I can’t believe she took the red eye all the way from California.”
“She’d better get here soon the train leaves in a couple of hours.” I said looking at my watch.
“Do you really think they’d leave without us?” Heather asked.
“With all the trouble we cause? I’m surprised they don’t make us walk…” I replied.
“Hey I think I see Brielle.” Heather said.
Sure enough a girl was approaching us. She had waist-length brown hair, brown eyes, and was wearing an oversized T-shirt and jeans. Classic Brielle. For Brielle it was all about comfort, as opposed to Heather and myself, who had suitcases containing only shoes.
“Hey guys.” Brielle said, “What’s up?”
“Nothing really, just waiting for you.” I replied.
“Shall we head to the train station then?” Heather suggested.
“Lead the way!” Brielle said.
