Senior Prom. Tonight was suppose to be the happiest night of my life but all I could feel was hurt, pain and sorrow. I watched on as everyone else danced the night away while I sat at the table. I glanced over at the other table where Ted sat with the rest of the football team. I looked away and sighed at the argument we had earlier today.
Teddy and I laid in my backyard, watching the clouds float on by as we waited to get ready for the dance tonight. He held me close in his arms, tickling my stomach with his fingers. I smiled to myself as I thought about our future.
"I can't believe it's already Prom. It felt like just yesterday we were Freshman," I stated.
"I know. Time goes by so fast."
"Yeah. Soon will be going off to college then starting our lives." I felt Ted tense up a bit and I looked up at him. "What is it?"
He hesitated before responding, "Camila, I have to tell you something."
"What?"
"After graduation, I'm not going to college."
"What?" I said with even more confusion. He sat up, taking me up with him and sighed. "I'm- joining the wrestling business like my dad."
"You're kidding, right?" He shook his head no. "What about football? What about school? You said you wanted to study science and business administration."
"Wrestling is what I want to do Camila. It's in my blood."
I realized that but what about everything we've talked about? College was going to be you and me."
"I'm sorry."
"What about me?"
Teddy looked at me and gave me a passionate kiss before saying again, "I'm sorry."
I started to feel tears form in my eyes. I closed my eyes taking a deep breath, holding them back.
"Alright now. This is the last song of the night for your Senior Prom. Make it count guys. Next stop, graduation," the DJ announced. 'Fall For You' by Secondhand Serenade started to play and all the couples paired off. I was about to leave when I saw a hand in front of me. I looked up to see Teddy standing there with a smile on his face. I smiled back weakly and took his hand. He lead us to the middle of the floor. I put my arms around his neck as his snaked around my waist. I rest my head against his chest, listening to the beat of his heart match the beat of the music. The song went on, I held on tight to Ted and wished that this would never end. But as songs go, the fade to a silence. Soon the ballroom was clearing out but Ted and I stayed there dancing.
"Teddy, you can let me go now," I whispered.
"I don't want to."
I closed my eyes again as a single tear fell from my eye.
From that one dance, I fell in love with him all over again.
