Chapter 2 : A Vampire's New Grandson ((Chapter 2))
..::Anna's P.O.V.::..
When I got back to my apartment I wasn't suprised to find my roommate, Crystal, with a group of her friends and a keg of beer. One of the guys in the group made a cat-call to me as I headed to my room and Crystal smacked him on the shoulder.
"Don't do that, she's not like that," she said. I managed to get into my room before any of the other guys started to bug me like they always did. Crystal said it was because I was pretty but I knew that wasn't the whole story.
Once I was in my room with the door locked I gathered some clean clothes and hurried to the bathroom. About halfway through my shower I heard Crystal turn on the radio and not long later there was some banging on my door from a guy demanding to use the bathroom. I prayed he'd give up soon and he did. I quickly dried myself off and pulled on my pajamas then rushed to my bedroom without any supper. By midnight all my homework was finished and I headed out to the living room to turn off the radio, stepping over a passed-out drunk to get there.
The only reason I was living with Crystal was because in the ad she put the apartment in she offered to pay three-fourths of the rent and utilities in exchange for being allowed to host parties that may include alcohol. Since I figured I could just sleep after school and do schoolwork during the parties (being sure to keep in touch with Crystal about when she was having her parties) and lock myself in my bedroom I took the offer and paid for my share of the bills.
I grabbed a banana from the kitchen and ate it as I headed into the bathroom, then I chucked the peel into the trash bin before brushing my teeth and heading to my room for the night. In the morning I went through my daily routine before grabbing my bag and heading out to walk to the university. I had worked hard to get scholarships to pay my tuition and now it was all paying off, literally.
"Hey, want a ride?" I heard a semi-familier voice call out. I turned to see who they were talking to only to find a pair of bright hazel eyes watching me and the guy from the previous day slowing his car down at the curb. I stopped in my tracks and he leaned over and opened the door. "Come on, this way's a lot faster."
"No thanks," I said, hoping to make myself clear.
"Don't worry, I don't bite," he grinned playfully.
I wanted to snap at him but I was worried he wasn't as nice as he tried to make himself out to be. "I need the excercise," I said, again trying to turn his offer down without flat out saying that I didn't trust him.
"Are you sure? It looks like it's going to rain."
And as if the clouds were obeying his words it began to sprinkle. I hesitated but when I could no longer figure out an excuse for walking another mile to school I got into the car. Using my bag as a barrier, I sat against the door and strapped myself in, but kept a couple fingers on the button in case of emergency.
"Did you hear the music last night? It was loud," he said.
"Yeah, it was," I replied, trying to keep my words to a minimum while also trying to keep him from learning where I lived.
"So what sort of music are you into?" he asked as he turned on the radio. It was already on my favorite station but I didn't mention it.
"Alternative," I answered simply, watching my words.
"Really? Same here."
He continued to try to strike up a conversation but my reluctance to speak must have gotten to him because he quieted down. Once we reached the university I thanked him for the ride and scurried to my class. But it didn't stop there. At lunch he was the only one in the room who had an empty chair at the table and hadn't sent me glares when I attempted to request a chance to sit down. Instead he told me that he was alone at the college as well and that if I ever needed some company, such as at lunch, that he was open.
"It's not fun being stuck at a school by yourself," he said with a slight sigh.
"Where are your friends?" I asked, a bit curious about the man who had taken a stranger into his apartment after I had fallen unconcious from my anemia.
"They went off to other colleges."
"Why didn't you go with them?"
He smiled and I didn't know why. "I wanted to come to this one. I didn't want to stay in the suburbs, I wanted to come to the city, to a big university. Plus if I went to a local college I'd end up living with my parents because it's cheap and it's hard to concentrate when my sisters have their friends over."
I glanced up from my sub sandwich. "You have sisters?"
"Yeah, Danielle and Lucia, everyone calls them Danny and Lucy though. They're twins. I've also got a younger brother."
I always got along with kids so later on I didn't find it a surprise, nor did I regret, that I started to ask him questions about them. "How old are they?"
"My sisters are twelve and my brother's four. They're really cool though. Danny plays football and Lucy plays baseball, they're really active girls. And my brother is one of those little boys that no matter where he goes there's always a woman watching him because they find him so cute. I've taken him to the mall with me before and been offered phone numbers from girls I didn't even talk to, it was crazy!"
"They sound nice," I said.
After lunch I headed to my class, which I soon realized was the same class Matthew was in. I kept myself hidden in the corner and took notes. When class ended I made sure to get caught up in a group of gossiping girls as I headed out. I stopped at the university bookstore and purchased some new pencils and things before I headed home where Crystal was on the couch making out with her boyfriend. The two of them were in their underwear when I opened the door and the guy smiled before undoing the back of his girlfriend's bra.
"Not yet," Crystal said, slapping his hands. He sighed and pulled himself off of her and came to the kitchen where I was making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
"So I heard you got a boyfriend," he smirked as I shut the fridge with the jar of apple jelly in my hands. He put his left arm up as a barrier with the kitchen counters on my other side helping him to keep me trapped. He did this sort of thing everytime I came home and intrupted them before he got to have sex with Crystal.
"He gave me a ride so I wasn't walking in the rain." I told him.
I hadn't even been living in the apartment for a week and I was already accustomed to Roger's rude behavior. Crystal came over and dragged him away from me. I had explained before I had signed the rental agreement for the apartment that I wasn't comfortable with men and, to my relief, she respected it completely and kept all the males she allowed in our home away from me.
I quickly finished making my sandwich and put everything away before slinking off to my room to do my homework.
