Chapter 1

Eggs

I looked at myself in the mirror. I thought about how stupid I was for letting this happen to me. Me, Allison Greene. In school, I was always the top of the class, never getting into trouble. My parents were always really nice to me and my friends. I had a perfect life. I was perfect. But, then I had to go off and do something stupid that involves hurting me, my friends, my classmates, and most of all, my family.

"Allison! Are you okay? You’ve been in there for an hour." My mom called from the hallway.

"Yes, mom. I’m just... practicing speaking for class." I lied. I waited for her answer, hoping my lie was convincing. "Mom?"

"Oh, okay. Just hurry, your brother needs to go to the bathroom." I heard my mom walk back downstairs. And, then I heard my little brother, Adam, walk upstairs.

"Ally! I have to go!" Adam cried.

"I’ll be out in a second." I shouted back. "Little creep." I muttered under my breath. Before I headed downstairs for breakfast, I looked at my hand. The pregnancy test cradled on my palm. I closed my eyes before I looked at it. One step at a time. I held the test in front of my face and slowly opened my eyes.

It read; positive. "No!" I screamed.

"Allison! Open up this door!" Adam screeched. He started picking the lock, but I was too shocked to care. He barged open the door. He cocked his head at what I was holding. "What’s that?"

I shifted my head to him, my head still in shock. Finally my head came back to life and I could answer. "Oh, nothing!" I hid it behind my back and ran out the door. Looking back was not an option. If anyone found this, then it would be the end forever. The end for everything I know and love.

I burst through my door. I found some paper to wad up the test and threw it in the trash can. No one would find out, no one could find out. I breathed in and out, relaxing myself. Sitting down on my bed, I found my cell phone. "One missed call."

I put the phone to my ear, and listened. It was from Nate.

"Hey, Al. I was just calling to say wasn’t that party great last night? We sure hit it off." I heard a slight chuckle in the back round, and began to tear up. What has he done to me. "Listen. It was fun, but, I’m sure you’d probably want to date other guys after what happened. Bye, Allison Greene." I pressed the end button, while tears rolled down my face. Anger became enraged in my body and I threw the cell phone at my wall.

"Nathaniel Mitchell, you are the worst person on Earth!" I screamed. I fell back on my bed, letting the salty water flow swiftly down my burned cheeks. "Why me." I said softly, "why me?"

"Allison, Adam, time for breakfast." My mother laughed from the kitchen.

I slowly got off my bed and made my way back to the bathroom. Adam stepped out and glanced at me.

"What happened to you?" He asked.

"Nothing that you need to know." I chirped. "Parasite." I coughed.

"Real mature. I thought someone like you would have already gotten over the name calling by now." He rolled his eyes and put his hands on his lips.

I shot him a cross look; he jumped. "How would you know anything about maturity? You’ll only ten!"

"Eleven and three quarters thank you very much." He smirked and continued to walk down stairs.

I rolled my eyes and stalked into the bathroom. Everything was blurry from crying. I splashed water on my eyes, hoping it would remove the redness. My light caramel colored hair was a mess and my pale skin was paler than usual.

I couldn’t complain about my sudden horrifying image, considering I had a...a baby growing in me.

Once my face went back to normal, I headed downstairs to see my parents and Adam sitting at the table.

"You’re late Allison." My dad said, folding his paper. He didn’t have the happiest expression on his face, and I knew it was because of work. "Care to join us?" He raised his eye brows.

"Relax, Martin. She didn’t mean it." My mom smiled at me, like she knew what had happened. No matter what I do to make my mother mad, she always forgets it like it never happened.

I smiled slightly and took my seat next to Adam.

"So, are you guys ready for school?" My mom asked, sweetly.

I took a bite of my eggs and spit them back out. "Ew." I said.

"What?" My dad asked, concerned.

"The eggs. They’re spoiled rotten." I stressed. Those eggs were the foulest food I have ever tasted.

Adam took a bite and swallowed. He took another one and swallowed. Looking at me, he said, "Your crazy." He spit.

"No I’m not! Mom, dad, take a bite." They both did and looked at me weird too.

"Honey are you okay?" My mom asked, me. She put her hand on my shoulder and lifted up my chin. "Is there something you want to talk about?"

Then I thought of the baby. It was making me feel this way. "No!" I screamed. Suddenly, the bus pulled up to our house. "I got to go. See you after school!" I grabbed my backpack and ran out of the house. I could feel Adam staring at me, curiously as I ran out the door. The last thing I would need now is my little brother investigating every inch of me.

Once I was on the bus, I relaxed on a seat next to my best friend, Madeleine.

"Hey girl, what’s up." She said, as I closed my eyes. "Something wrong?"

"N... N... No." I stuttered. I looked her in the eye and smiled. She didn’t buy it.

"Ally, you know you’re a horrible liar."Maddie scooted closer. "This might make you happy." She closed in. "I heard that some girl at the party Saturday night was with Nate in Kayla’s bedroom."Maddie smiled. She always was one with the gossip.

I looked up shocked. "What!" I screeched. Everyone turned our way and stared. I glared at them. "What! What! What!"Maddie sat back while I had a panic attack. "How did this happen!?"

"Relax, Al. It’s not like that was you or anything." She put her hand around my shoulder.

"Yeah..." I looked down and sighed.

"It wasn’t you, right?"

"Of course!" I turned to her with pleading eyes. Of course it was me! I thought. Of course! I did it, I was the girl! Arrest me, throw me in jail! I would rather be there, than here right now. "I would never do something so stupid." HopefullyMaddie believed me. She seemed like it, because she sat back in her seat.

Maddiewas my best friend, but sometimes I couldn’t trust her. She always liked gossip and spreading it around, even if it was the worst thing ever. So, right now, this baby was my secret. It was my responsibility. And, it was going to turn into my worst nightmare.

The bus pulled up in front of the school.Maddie and I looked out the window and saw Nate. She opened the window and yelled,

"Hey Nate!" He turned around. "Nate! Who was the girl?"Maddie smirked.

He glanced at me, and I dropped my head.
"No one you need to know about!" Nate and his friends high-fived each other and continued into the school.

"Madeleine! Why did you just that?" I frowned, and she knew I had something to do with this.

"Ally! What did you do? Were you that girl! Tell me!" She grabbed my arms and shook me. I broke free of her grasp and slipped off the bus. "Ally come back!" She screamed out of the window.

I ran into the school. I didn’t care if I bumped into anyone and I didn’t care if I ran into anyone. They would just have to move!

I stopped in front of my locker and opened it. My books were scattered everywhere in my hands. Suddenly, Nate pops up behind me. The sudden shock made me drop my books.

"Hello, Allison Greene." He breathed. His voice was soft like silk. It was hard not to like hearing him. "Did you have a fun this weekend?"

I turned around and looked him straight in the eye. His deep, sea green eyes stared right back. His messy blonde hair was to die for. And his beautiful tan skin was just intoxicating. There was nothing this boy didn’t have when it came to looks. "What the heck makes you think I had a fun weekend?" I snapped.

He backed up a foot. "I’m just saying." He smiled his flawless smile, showing his sparkly white teeth.

"Listen, Nate. I heard your message." I began. I waited for his expression. Nothing. "And, I agree. We should see other people." I picked up my books, slammed my locker, and turned away from his gaze. "Good bye Nathaniel Mitchell."

I heard him sigh.

Passing people in the hall, I heard someone scream my name. I turned around and it was Heather, one of Nate’s friends. Great. I thought.

"Allison! Allison Greene." She waved. "Hey, I want to talk to you."

"Heather, I would love to talk, but I have to get to home room." I started walking away from her, but she caught my arm.

"We can talk and walk." Heather locked on to my arm. "Ally- can I call you Ally?" She asked like I was a prime suspect.

"Um, sure." Really I wasn’t listening, or looking at her. As long as she thought she was getting through to me, than I would do nothing more.

"Ally, I hear that you have a little thing with Nate..." She paused, trying to keep calm. "But, I just want to let you know..." All of the sudden she pushed me against the wall. She clenched her teeth. "Keep away from him."

I pushed her off of me. "Just so you know, I don’t like him. I won’t ever like him. And I don’t want to ever see him again. So, you can have him. You can do what ever you want." I smirked at her, then I turned from her and started walking again.

"This isn’t over, Allison." Heather breathed and stomped off. I could hear her mumbling something under her breath, but I couldn’t make out what she said.

For the rest of the way to class I thought about the baby. How many weeks was it? Was it a boy or a girl? What would I name it? Then, I thought of the worst question of all. When and how would my friends and family find out? I actually was thinking so much, that I passed my class.

I back tracked quickly before the bell rang and sat in my seat. Everyone around me were talking except for me. Right now, I was in my own little world. Actually, I was so deep in my own world that I was talking to myself. People stopped their conversations just to watch. I guess I was mumbling something about the baby because everything started whispering and laughing.

One of my friends, Angela, had to shake me out of my trance. "Ally, are you okay...?" She moved her hand up and down in front of my face. "Al! Snap out of it, you’re talking about something..." She stopped, probably afraid to say it. Angela lowered her voice. "Like a baby..."

After she said that word I jumped up. "What? I’m not having a baby what makes you think that?" Unfortunately, I said it too fast, and too loud. Everyone stopped and looked at me. Great. I thought. Now everything thinks I’m gonna have a child.

Before Angela could say more, my teacher entered the room. "Hello, class. I have a few things I need to talk to you about."

I didn’t really care much about my teacher right now. There was so much other stuff in my life that couldn’t be avoided, unlike Mrs. Brody. So much stuff that would make my life so much different. I was going to have a baby. I thought. I was going to have a baby.

Isat there motionless as Mrs. Brody finally finished her lecture. Tears almost came out, but I forced them to stay.

Eventually, the bell rang and I ran out. The only person I could or would want to talk to is Nate; sadly. He might be the most idiotic person on Earth, but he was still my friend and he got me into this.

I passed Heather in the hall. She gave me dagger eyes the whole way. I decided not to glare back, only because I didn’t want to get messed up with her. If she found out, my life would be over.

I turned into my class and sat next to Nate. He smiled at me and I glowered back. His smile soon faded. Good, he was guilty for what he did to me. Again, it must have been that I was talking.

"What?" He asked, puzzled.

"Huh?" I turned my head to him, and saw his deep eyes looking at me again. "I-uh-." It felt like the eggs were coming back up. I ran to the bathroom, passing my teacher in the process. I knew she was running after me.

The toilet was in front of my face now. I was holding the sides of the toilet not wanting to let go. The heat was overcoming, and the feeling of puking was even worse.

Mrs. Teeter came up behind me and put her hand on my back. I felt safe with her now. "Are you okay?" She asked me, with her quiet voice. "Try and go to the nurse. She’ll send you home."

I nodded my head once and went down to the nurse. She then sent me home.

My mom came about ten minutes later to pick me up. She came running in and when she saw me she gave me a big hug, which made me puke some more. She made a face and stepped back a little. Her and the nurse talked for a while, while I puked. All I heard was, "She’s been puking all morning." And, "I don’t understand why, her temperature is 98.6, just perfect."

I looked up then. 98.6? Whoa, I was burning hot. I had a massive stomach ache, obviously.

My mom dragged me to the car. She buckled me in while I had my face in my bucket. "What happened, Allison? You’re burning up, and you’re puking. But, your temperature is perfect!" She sat back and closed her eyes.

"Eggs." I muttered.

"What?" She looked up.

"Eggs." And I puked one last time into the bucket.
