Chapter 13 : Mattress Love |12| Jussi Vuori
Mattress Love |12| Jussi Vuori
As usual when I wake up I made my way to the drums in the spare room of my apartment. A drum session is a perfect way for me to start my day, it provides my good mood and up ‘till today I never had any complaints of being too loud. Of course this was mainly because that room was built soundproof and because I usually wake up round noon and normal people are working round that time.
The sleep in is only one of the upsides of being a rock star.
It always irritated me that everyone thinks life of musicians is a walk in the park.
But even though we love what we do it is hard to travel to regions of which you never heard for months on end with minimum privacy. Or to create new music that is innovative enough to live up to the expectations of fans yet they also have to represent our sound. It’s a though job to find the right mix between old and new every time again.
But even writing, practicing for hours can be fun times. I couldn’t help but smile at some memories of our time in the studio, one particular memory popped up, when Lyyli came to visit me at the studio when I alone was working on the drumsolo…
I shook my head and grabbed my drumsticks and started to bang everything out of my head. Most people find drumming to be nothing more than aimlessly producing noise. But it’s so much more than that; it’s about feeling, rhythm, creating a sequence of perfect hits to produce the perfect sound. Drums – much like any other instrument- possesses the same charm as women, they seduce you with their form, their feeling, their sound, they reel you in and make you fall head over heels for them, they won’t let you go afterwards.
Music will always have my heart, it’s the one sin I would sell my soul for to commit.
I stopped drumming when my polyphone ringtone disturbed my concentration.
“Hello?”
“Darling? It’s Lucca” I stopped breathing and my still racing heart picked up a pace at the sound of her name.
She wasn’t the first one to break my heart, but surely the first one of which I was certain that would last. The first one that I wanted to commit to in every way possible.
“Lucca?” I repeated, still not believing my ears.
”I’m back in town and I wondered if you were up for a late lunch?”
“Sure…”
”Great, I’ll see you at 2 at Darren’s place. Ciao” and before I could even say that Darren’s place ceased to exist a year ago and that it was now turned into another less fancy restaurant she had hung up on me.
I felt nervous and excited at the same time and as I looked at the clock I realized it was already 1 pm so I stripped off my boxers and jumped into the shower because that little drumming session made me smell like a pig. I had to hurry, after all mom raised me with the lesson that it was rude to keep a lady waiting.
When I entered the restaurant a little later than intended I didn’t have to search long for Lucca, she was the only person who would even think of wearing a navy blue, off shoulder cocktail dress at this time of day and get away with it.
“Jussi!” she waved me over after 5 minutes, when she finally noticed me. she looked even more beautiful than I remembered. Her lush, brown layered hair with blond streaks running through framed her angelic face perfectly. It accompanied her tan which- together with her blue dress- brought out her sparkling blue eyes even better and it made her broad smile even whiter. Even now Vogue or any other high class fashion magazine could snap a picture and it would still be perfect as a cover shoot.
Her lips were planted on my cheek immediately and her smile stayed put when I slid her chair underneath her and sat down myself.
“You look great” I remarked, starting the conversation in hope I could avoid awkward moments.
“I always look great, but then again so do you” she responded and I couldn’t help but smirk.
“Would you look at that, flattery comes both ways.” She laughed and sipped her drink, apple martini. She always did enjoy fancy drinks.
“So how have you been?”
“Good, great… busy” I answered and she smiled and played with a strand of hair.
“Music or girls?” I couldn’t help but chuckle in answer.
“So tell me, “I changed the subject, “How come you’re back? Didn’t things work out in America?”
“Darling,” she said and stood up, spreading her arms making me take her in, little did she know I had already done that the minute I stepped in the restaurant, “Does it look like it didn’t work out?” she sat back down and sipped her drink once more. She did look good, it made me a bit sad to know she was this well off without me in her life.
“I had time off and my mom has been whining to come back to visit so I took the first plane here. And voila, I’m back in Finland.” She smiled and placed her hand on mine, slightly caressing it with her fingers and pulling me out of my melancholic thoughts. “Now shall we eat and maybe… discuss what we’ll be doing tonight?” I smiled, it was funny how easily she reeled me back in again.
“So…” I uttered after I rolled on to my back, panting form recent exertions, “Are you doing anything tonight?” Lucca chuckled and raked a hand through her hair, pulling it out of her swear embedded face.
“I bet something with you, but lets do something outdoors, if you don’t mind. I don’t think I can last another 5 hours without break.”
I smirked, “You’re out of shape, I remember a time where you could last longer.” I had dared her and I knew her, she never chickened out. She hovered above me with a sly smirk on her face.
“I didn’t say anything about stopping now, now did i?” and she crashed her lips on mine again.
“Hey man, I haven’t heard or seen you all day.” Jyrki said when he answered the door and found me on the other side. I smirked and walked in.
“I’ve been busy” I said and plopped down on his couch.
“Well it certainly worked wonders on you. Who is she?”
“That easy?” I asked when I accepted the offered beer bottle.
“Jussi, you have been grinning non stop since you came in… Of course it’s easy to see.”
“Well she’s coming with us tonight.” I said and took a large gulp of my beer. Lucca went to her hotel to do all the girly stuff that inevitably accompanied the words ‘going out’ and we agreed to meet each other at the bar.
Jyrki frowned, “You do know Lyyli’s going to be there right?”
“We are friends now.” I reasoned and finished my beer, not noticing how Jyrki’s face clearly displayed how he didn’t believe a thing.
“Darling Jussi!” Lucca called me as she spotted me outside the bar. She was dressed in a fitting red dress that hugged her curvaceous body in all the right places. Even now, outside, she turned heads and I took pride in knowing she was mine for tonight. I escorted her inside, straight to the guys.
“Guys you remember Lucca right?” I guess I should’ve known that this would cause a riot. The guys uneasily said hello and Jyrki just stared at me in a ‘You’ve got to be kidding me-kind of way
Jyrki never really liked Lucca – eventhough the man always sees the best in people- and after we were through he really didn’t like her.
“And who is this lovely creature?” Lucca’s voice broke off the starring competition between Jyrki and me.
“This is…”
“I’m Lyyli and this is Annette.” Lyyli interrupted me and took Lucca’s slender hand in her own.
“And you’re here with Jyrki? Good to know he finally has a girl.”
Lyyli chuckled and looked at me, “Jussi you really need to inform your girls better,” she said and focussed on Lucca again,” I’m your boy’s ex girlfriend.”
I glared at Lyyli and thought I saw her wince before Lucca finally broke their handshake. “Nice to meet you,” she said and pulled my hand,” Darling lets go dance.” And she dragged me away.
“Yeah hello? Nice to be ignored.” Annette scoffed and Lyyli rubbed her hand, easing it after Lucca so violently squeezed it and dug her manicured nails in it.
“be glad, she draws blood.” Lyyly cursed and turned to Jyrki.
“What did I do to her? Moreover who is she anyway?”
“She was you… 5 years ago.”
“Oh great, one of his prissy ex girlfriends, like we didn’t have enough of those here already.” Annette grumbled and earned herself a nudge in the side from Lyyli, spilling the content of the glass she was holding on her fishnet stockings.
“Fucking hell Lyyli.”
“Should’ve kept your mouth shut. Now lets go and turn some heads.” Lyyli said and Annette grinned before she pulled Lyyli with her on the dancefloor.
That was the last update for this week. Next one will take longer. sorry... But I hope you guys liked it I had to rewrite it like 3 times before I was somewhat content with it.
