"Such meddlesome children" remarked Ms Zelot, who happened to overhear the Rynnes' conversation. Being the second richest resident in town, Ms Zelot had an enormous amount of pride in her character. She often supplied roses for the local parties; it was her custom to leave at least one red rose hidden within a bookcase. Though it was a strange act that no one seemed to notice, it occurred to several individuals that she was a matchmaker of sorts, for every time she left the building, yet another couple was formed; the couple always married within a week's notice. To this day, Madame Zelot's "charm" was regarded as a legend - she had no husband of her own, and was never seen alone with a man. By now, Madame Zelot had become aware of a certain situation. "I beg your pardon!" said an astonished Dorian Rynnes. Madame Zelot smirked. "It appears as though your children, Mr Rynnes, do not care enough to attend their own family's social gatherings, let alone any festive celebrations." Mrs Rynnes seemed anxious to avoid the confrontation. "I think I'll go introduce myself to the new guests over there..." she said, walking off at a steady pace. "Misses - I mean, MADAME Zelot" At this, Madame Zelot smiled. "I can assure you that my children are no longer infants; they are responsible, mature young adults who know exactly where their place in society is." At that moment, a loud bang was heard, one which happened to be the slamming of the upstairs chamber door. Miriam Celia Rynnes was tempted to slide down the long, winding stairway in a fashionable entrance, but she knew how her family saw these things. Instead, she took her time walking down, breathing in the putrid aromas of perfume, cologne, and expensive champagne; she nearly fainted from all of the exhaustion cause by scents and sounds of the uproar that grew louder and louder as she descended downstairs.
