..::Nick's P.O.V.::..
We had to wait a half an hour before the doctors decided that Matthew was fine and that it was okay for us to see him. "What caused his coughing?" I asked as I kept my hands on Kat's shoulders while she sniffled and watched Matthew sleep.
The doctor looked up from our sleeping son. "Oh, it was an allergic reaction. Did he have anything to eat this morning? Other than what he gets from nursing of course."
Kat looked up and shook her head. "I haven't given him anything. Before he was born I was told to wait months before I started to wean him."
The doctor turned to me and I looked down at Matthew. "I haven't given him anything either."
She nodded. "Then it must have been inhaled. Did either of you smell anything out of the ordinary today? Something that your son may not have come in contact with up until now?"
We started to shake our heads but then I remembered something. "The minister was wearing some cologne. I know I didn't like the smell, I thought it smelled bad. Do you think that could have been it?"
"It could have been. Don't take your son around him again unless he washes it off, it's dangerous for a child to become exposed to something they're allergic to," the doctor warned.
We nodded and she soon left us to be with Matthew. They had to give him a small shot to get his body to calm down from what a nurse told us when he came into the room with the treatment papers. I took the papers from him before he left. Kat hardly even bothered to glance at him when he spoke and mostly kept her gaze on Matthew. "Are you going to be okay?" I asked her as she reached down to pull the thin blanket up to our son's chin when he shifted and accidently pushed it down.
"Yeah. I was just scared is all," she said, running her fingers lightly through his hair. "I thought it was my fault he was coughing. I was scared he'd die..." her voice was hardly louder than a whisper.
I wrapped my arms around her waist and held her gently against me. "If that had happened it'd be my fault as much as yours," I told her, trying to keep her from feeling so guilty about something that hadn't happened.
There was a knock at the door and I went to get it. It was Kat's mother, father, Cal and Thatcher. "How is he?" Kat's mother asked quietly, glancing into the room. Her daughter looked up briefly but turned back to Matthew.
I went out of the room with them to speak without waking up my son. "He's sleeping now. His windpipe had closed up due to an allergic reaction. We believe that it was caused by the minister's cologne."
They nodded and the King told me "I'll go let the man know so he can wash it off before he gets another child sick," before he left.
The others came into the room with me to see Matthew before they left aswell. After they had gone Kat got Matthew dressed again and picked him up as he awoke. He fixed his gaze on each of us in turn then left out a cry and started to sob while Kat calmed him down. "It's okay sweetheart. You're all better and we won't let you get sick like that again," she said, rocking him gently. He cluthced her shirt in his little hand as he calmed down.
We headed out to the truck after we checked out and the paparazzi tried to get pictures btu Kat quickly covered Matthew's face with her jacket flap so he didn't see the camera flashes. We reached the truck and got in before the reporters reached us.
"I'm so sorry you got sick," Kat said to Matthew, watching him as he rubbed his hand over his belly where the giraffe print was. "I promise I'll do my best to keep it from happening again," she swore to him as he giggled and tucked at a lock of her hair. She smiled and gave him a kiss before turning to the road and putting her head back.
I reached over and took her hand while I used the other to steer. "He'll be alright," I said. She nodded breifly.
When we reached the castle a new minister had arrived to finish the ceremony, just as a precaution in case the last one still had on ay cologne. Matthew quickly made friends with the new one and never left Kat's arms as we finished up the seremony. During the "I do"s he started to make slight sobbing noises so, being a father himself, the minister lent over just enough so Matthew would see him properly and said "And do you, Matthew Leon Williams, take these two as your mother and father?" Matthew let out a squealy giggle and grabbed our sleeves as tightly as he could and the minister chuckled before announcing "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss!"
Kat and I leaned in for the kiss and made it while Matthew giggled under our chests. The minister shut his book and left the room while Thatcher gave me a pat on the back and Kat handed our son to me before Cal pulled her over to spin her around and give her a hug.
When we left the room Kat's mother was all over us with her camera, snapping photos of us with our friends, then just us with our son then the King held Matthew as she snapped a photo of Kat on my back, smiling and making a peace sign for the camera.
"Welcome to the family!" Kat's mother said, pulling me into a hug.
I hugged her back a little bit, not sure how friendly to act. "I think it's logical to assume that you'll be going to see your mother now?" the King asked after handing Matthew back to his mother.
"Yeah," I said, glancing at Kat to make sure it was okay. She smiled and nodded when I met her gaze.
"Well we're not going to let you," her father said, stepping aside to reveal my mother waiting behind him. She smiled hesitantly and Kat gave her a hug.
After the short celebrations Kat and I headed back up to the room to finish packing the clothes while Tippy played with Matthew. "Where's her cage?" Kat asked when she saw the ferret.
"I had Thatcher take some stuff over to the apartment already," I said, lifting a heavy bag of clothes onto the bed. "We just have to grab the rest of the stuff and put it in the truck."
Kat nodded and finished packing up Matthew's clothes then stuck the bag onto the bed and went on to finish collecting his things and packing them for the move. When the room was clear she grabbed a bag and collected the bottles of things from the bathroom. Shampoo, unused soap bars, shaving cream, razors, baby powder, etc. etc.
"You seem stressed," I observed, stopping at the doorway after I finished clearing out the rest of the closet.
Kat looked at me from the hairbrush in her hand, then back down. "Last time I moved it was from my baby room into this one, but this time it's to a whole different home."
I went in and wrapped my arms around her from behind. She seemed to like it when I did that because she always held my wrists gently and let herself lean back against my chest without much notice that she was doing so. "It's scary, I know. But you can come visit this place anytime you want I'm sure. And you won't be alone."
She turned so she could look up at me. "We haven't discussed what is going to happen to your mom. Can we pay for her?"
I shook my head. "No, I talked it over with her and she is moving out of the mental home with another recovery patient to stay with their family." I let go of her and took a short step to the door. "I'll let you finish up with the bathroom," I said and went to finish packing up our clothes.
