Walking in the Rain
Chapter 9 : Walking in the Rain- Chapter Nine
I walked into Johnson’s room with a calm expression. I sat farthest away from Myles, I peeked a glance at him but when I saw his hurt expression I quickly looked away.
Johnson eyed us and then said, “I have a meeting when I get back you can leave if you leave this class room before that I will know and you will make up that time, understood?”
I nodded my head. Myles most have has well because he quickly exited closing the door behind him.
“I once got so scared by a camp fire story I peed my pants.” I looked over at Myles; he laughed at my expression and then said with a grin, “True story your turn.”
I just stared at him like he was crazy and then he said slyly, “a deals a deal.”
I sighed and shifted in my seat, “I once…ran around the house with my mother’s thong on my head…well she chased after me.”
I didn’t look over at him, blush covering my cheeks at the memory and the way my mother would tell it to amuse any company we had. I missed her so much.
“When I was kid I took my sisters tampons to school and asked the teacher what they where for.” His voice was dead serious. I looked over at him with a small smile on my face. And then I laughed at his faked a hurt expression. And I laughed harder. He rolled his eyes at me.
I wiped the tears from my eyes and said, “I can’t skate…the one time I tried I took down five people and broke my arm and a little girls leg.”
I glanced over at him and he was staring at me with a funny expression, “what?”
“Oh well some how it just doesn’t surprise Me.” he stated simply his smile lighten up his face. I rolled my eyes at him as I watched him eye my hands.
It continued like that the whole detention. And all the way home. When I got of the truck I was the happiest I had been for a long, long time. I was still smiling as I climbed the stairs to the front door.
The smile was wiped off my face or more accurately slapped off. As soon as I closed the door. I stared at her and her furious expression.
“I got a call from the school today.” She sneered at me cruelly. “You got in a fight? You’re such a snotty, rude, trouble maker! I want you OUT of my house.”
I laughed and snapped back at her, “Who’d pay the bills?”
Her face changed, “you ungrateful little brat.”
She raised her hand but the door opened and a voice called out, “Sam you forgot your…what the hell are you doing?”
She quickly turned on her heel waving her hand over her shoulder saying, “out now.”
I stood there trying to piece everything together. And then his voice rang out concerned “Sam?”
I didn’t look back at him but made my way up the stairs to my room him on my heels. Repeating my name. How had I gone from so happy to so sad? I opened my door and was just about to close it in his face when he said my name in a different way no pity or concern almost like a demand I looked up at him through the crack in the door.
“Sam.” He repeated softly. Laying his hand on the door and pushing it open so that he could squeeze through. He shut it softly behind him.
“Sam.” He repeated looking down at me with soft eyes.
“Why do you keep repeating my name?” I asked agitated. And then I felt everything boil over, “why are you telling people to stay away from me, why are you punching people for me, why the do you care, what was jess talking about how only you him and someone else and Noah know?”
“I don’t understand any of this. I’ve only known you for two days and you’re…and I’m…” I trialed off.
“It’s all going to be fine okay? I’ll answer your questions in time you just got to be patient.” He said softly. I nodded still not understanding. He smiled a little, “how about tomorrow night me and you go out for dinner?”
I looked up and nodded slowly. Just to make sure I asked, “And you’ll answer my questions.”
He smiled down at me. “Some of them.”
I groaned…some of them. Myles left after that but it took a few minutes before I heard the front door close.
Shortly after my grandmother came up to me room and apologized through the door saying how I was more then welcome to stay this was my home too after all.
I fell asleep after that not replying to her.
FRIDAY! I got dressed quickly slightly buzzed at the thought that this was the last day of school until Monday. Walked out the front door to find the Myles in his truck with jess standing outside it opening up the door for me. I climbed in with the help of a smirking Myles and slid into the middle well jess got in and sat down next to me.
“Hey I haven’t seen you since Myles decided to go back to third grade and pass notes.” Jess said with a grin.
“It adds to his charm.” I said dryly. Jess looked confused but I could see Myles grinning.
“What charm? I was under the impression he was all brawn and no brain.” Jess replied with a grin of his own.
“Coming from the king Neanderthal’s himself.” Myles replied smoothly. I smiled slightly this was all so surreal.
The rest of the ride was them making jabs at each other. Some of it was pretty funny and caused me to almost die laughing.
At lunch the sun was now out so I made my way to the tree. No one’s said anything to me, any rude comments or glare. Whatever Myles did or said was holding. I sat with my back up against the tree. I was surprised when I saw Myles heading over my way with jess and two other boys.
When they where close enough the introduced themselves as rob who I was sure was the boy jess had been talking to, as a very large boy with brown curly hair the other was Noah thin and blonde with light green eyes he resembled a twig.
They all sat down and acted like this was normal. I followed suit naturally. It’s was an interesting lunch Myles sat by my side well the three others sat in front of us chattering about nonsense.
Rob was a very wise boy; he seemed older when he talked. Noah had a very serious way of looking at things. And as I realized this about them I was shocked when they both participated in the teasing that jess was doing towards are me and Myles date that was tonight. Myles said a few things here and there but mostly played with my hair wrapping the black strands around his finger over and over again.
