Chapter Two
[Falling In Love Is For Idiots]
“So, did you bang him?”
I blinked at my best friend in the world, Lucas Davine, and shook my head, “No, I did not ‘bang’ him. I just barely met him. Besides that, he’s a total jerk. I wouldn’t bang a guy like that in a million years.”
Max instantly piped in, “That’s not what you said in the car.” The death glare I sent him probably could have sent Hitler into hiding, but somehow managed to have absolutely no affect on my younger brother, for he continued on, “You said you would have ripped off his clothes if it hadn’t have been for the fact that you were in a public place.”
When Lucas burst into a fit of hysterical laughs, I turned my death glare in his direction.
Apparently what did not work on Max, did work on Lucas, for he instantly shut his mouth and turned somber.
I sent Max one last foreboding look before I continued, “Besides, I don’t even have time for dating. We’re leaving for college, Luke, and I don’t need distractions.”
“Madison,” he said, leaning forward in his chair and pinning a serious look on my face, “Getting laid is not a distraction. It’s an essential.”
“For you maybe. But I’m not a whore. So I don’t need it.”
He drew back as if insulted.
Which we both knew he wasn’t.
Now I love Lucas with all my heart. Truly I do.
Hell, we’ve been best friends since the two of us were old enough to pee in the toilet instead of in our diapers.
We were always together.
In fact, our parents had gotten this crazy idea into their heads that Lucas and I were going to fall in love and have tons of babies.
A thought which only managed to make the both of us gag.
While Lucas might have been the best friend a girl could ask for, he was probably the worst boyfriend in the world.
I would know because I had seen him ruin almost every single possible relationship he entered into.
And he ruined them all the same way…
By cheating on them.
At first, I had been convinced that I could somehow change this quality in him, but after almost five years, I basically figured out that the only person who could change it was himself.
Or the girls of his dreams.
Who I was down right determined to find for him.
Of course, if he decided that he wanted to sleep with every girl in existence, and then break their hearts, there weren’t going to be any left for me to find.
“Are you calling me a whore?” he asked, taking on an affronted role.
I rolled my eyes at his reaction, “Let it go, Lucas. You are a whore. A huge one. And you like being a whore.”
He shook an admonishing finger in my face, “For your information, I am dating someone.”
He didn’t dignify my question with a response.
“What’s a whore?” asked Max from the corner.
I crossed my eyes and then glared at Lucas, “Do you see what you’ve done?”
He glared right back at me, “I wasn’t the one who brought it up!”
“What is it?” Max asked, perking up in his seat the moment he realized that I would be in deep trouble if Mom and Dad found out that these words had passed my lips, “I want one!”
Lucas made a sound between a snort and a laugh while I turned a firm glare over to Max, “No, you don’t. Forget that word was ever mentioned.”
He simply stared me down for a moment before crossing is arms over his chest and saying, “If you don’t tell me, I’ll just ask Mom or Dad.”
I resisted the urge to shoot myself in the face, “A whore is a woman who charges men for…certain favors.”
Lucas leaned in and whispered to me, “Nice save.”
“What sort of favors?” Max persisted.
Lucas winced, “I had a feeling he’d ask that.”
I turned my head sharply to him, “You better not be enjoying this.”
He held his hands up to defensively, “Of course not.”
Though I knew he was lying through his teeth, I simply turned back to my brother and said, “I’ll tell you when you’re older. Now go away.”
Max glared at me, “You don’t have to such a bitch, Madison.”
I choked on my tongue, “EXCUSE ME?! Where did you hear that from?”
I saw that Max’s gaze was instantly drawn to something behind me and I turned sharply to see Lucas mouthing, “Don’t.Tell.Her.It.Was.Me.”
My eyes narrowed to the size of slits, “Lucas Michael Davine, one day I am going to kill you.”
He sent me a meek smile, “Don’t you want to hear about my new girlfriend first?”
I let out a sigh before I threw my hands up in the air as if to say say, “Why the hell not?”
He leaned in and widened his eyes before saying, “She’s a babe.”
“Of course not,” he leaned in even closer, “She’s really a babe.”
“For the love of God, Lucas, what else? What is her name? What are her hobbies? Do you have anything in common with her?”
“Sure!” he said, “She likes to shop, I guess. We’re both babes. And her name’s…”
“Of course I can!” he snapped, “It’s Becca.”
“Becca? Does she have a last name, Lucas? I need details here.”
“Becca Stonewall.”
I creased my brows, “Stonewall? Where have I heard that name before?”
“Damned if I know.”
“LUCAS!” I snapped, “Stop cussing in front of Max! You know he picks these things up really fast.”
He turned to Max, “I meant damn as in the thing you put water in.”
“He’s young, Lucas, not stupid.”
Lucas pierced me with his fiercest glare, “At the rate your going, I’m not even going to let you meet her.”
I rolled my eyes, “Fine. Fine. I’ll be nice. When are we meeting her?”
“Today,” he said, rising from his chair, “She’s over at the mall with her cousin Jason.”
I froze.
Jason Stonewall…
At least I remembered where I had heard the name…
