Marina!"
"What?!"
"Give it back!"
"No!" Marina shouted back, laughing as she leaped from roof top to roof top.
Out of nowhere, an explosion sounded, and she and Kaine quickly stopped. They looked briefly at each other, then ran in the direction of the explosion. To Marina's horror the assassin's bureau was on fire. She quickly sped up, leaving Kaine behind, who called out her name several times. She ignored him.
'Grandfather please be alright please...' She thought flipping off the building and running to the assassin's bureau. Several people were crowded around the wreckage of the bureau, talking about what happening. She pushed through them and battled through the rubble of the building. She finally found him..
"Grandfather! Hang on I'll send for medical help right away!"
"It's too late, Marina darling...I can feel half of my blood drained from my body and many of my bones are shattered."
"But-"
"I'm old, Marina...perhaps this was all intended."
Tears formed in Marina's eyes and she hugged her grandfather close to her as he took in his last breath. She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up to see Kaine, sympathy in his eyes. He kneeled down next to her and she cried into his chest.
~Two Days Later, Grandfather's funeral~
Marina stood in a black dress, staring at the pastor as he read the bible. Tears streamed down her face, but her expression was hard. Kaine tapped her shoulder and pointed to a white-hooded figure who seemed to be praying. Marina's eyes narrowed. 'An assassin...' She looked back at Kaine. The funeral ended and everyone paid their respects.
"What do you think he was doing here?" Kaine asked.
"He was sent by Al Mualim of Masayf to investigate the murder probably. We should follow him and see if he gets anything..." Marina replied, grinning at the thought of following a highly trained killer. Kaine didn't look so happy, but he went with her anyway.
The two used all their stealth skills just to keep up with the assassin, knowing that he had very strong senses. They stopped when he did as he examined a kounai, something Marina already found. Suddenly his hood came down a little bit, and Marina's mouth hung open. Kaine wasn't looking at her.
"Come on Marina all he's really doing is finding what we found." When she didn't respond, he lookde at her.
"Marina???"
~Marina's P.O.V.~
She ignored Kaine, a small memory flooding back to her.....
~Flashback Mode~
"Please let me go!" She cried out.
"Hah...you have a lovely voice. The more you cry out, the more aroused I get."
"Just hold still and let us handle everything."
"No please I'm only fourteen!"
"Oh a virgin, hm? This should be fun!" Marina struggled, trying to fighting off the men who had evil intentions. Oh why in the hell did she have to wander away from Acre and into the forest?
The guards knew they could do whatever they wanted to her here. 'I won't let this happen!' She said in her mind. She took in a deep breath, and screamed. For a minute the guards stopped trying to take her clothes off.
"Hah, what good do you think that did girl?" One laughed.
Marina's head hung low and she let tears come out, tired from trying to fight them off. Suddenly, a knife whizzed out of nowhere and sliced the cheek of one of them.
"Hey what the hell?" He said, looking around. A boy with a white hood jumped out of the trees and stood in front of them. He held a knife in his hand.
"Let her go..." He said in a threatening voice.
Marina got a good look of his face. He only looked to be about three years older than her. She blushed. He was kind of cute...and he was saving her! The guards let her go and took their swords out. She dropped to the ground, exhausted.
"You've got some nerve, boy. You really think you can take us, fully trained guards on?
"You think you can take on a fully trained assassin?" He said back.
Marina's eyes widened. Her grandfather worked at the assassin's bureau.
"You expect us to believe a seventeen year old boy is a fully trained assassin? To hell with this assassin shit kill him!"
Marina watched as he swiftly dealt with the guards. When the battle was over they laid dead and he stood without a scratch. His hood had come down, and his handsome features were more noticable. Marina stood up with the little strength she had left.
"T-Thank you...if you hadn't come who knows what they would have done to me..." She stuttered. He smiled and her heart raced.
"It is no problem. Try not to wander out into the forest. Here..let me take you home." He picked her up bridal style, and carried her all the way back to the bureau.
~End of FlashBack~
Right then and there, Marina could tell she was in love. She had learned his name: Altair. He was the most skilled assassin to live, besides the masters. Marina admired him so much. But she could tell he had changed. He was no longer the kind boy she remembered. She could tell now he was cold to many.. 'Altair...I've loved you for so long..I hope you'll notice that..'
Marina jumped off the building top and landed a few feet away from him. He quickly drew his sword.
"Put the sword away I'm not an enemy, Altair..."
"How do you know me?"
"Know you? Don't you remember ME?" Marina asked.
"Why would I remember some common streetwoman?"
"You saved me three years ago..in the forest from guards. Don't you remember? Also I'm no common streetwoman. My grandfather was in charge of this assassin's bureau."
"I remember no such thing." Ouch...that had to sting.
Kaine came out of nowhere and gripped Marina's shoulders.
"But you're the granddaughter of a master. Al Mualim will probably need you."
