Part Three: The Pub
“Hey you ready or what?” He asked as he held his arm out to her. She smiled back and took his arm and walked with him to the SUV. Sam sat in the passenger seat as Ianto started the engine. The Doctor and Jack came running out of the building and got into the car.
“Thought that she would need supervising,” Jack explained as she looked back at him. She pointed to the Doctor and Jack looked at him. “Oh and he is just coming along.” Sam rolled her eyes and looked forwards as they drove off to the pub. Sam walked out and took hold of Ianto’s arm with a smile on her face. They looked around at every face in the pub; there were only five people there. Gwen and Resse, Mickie, Martha and her husband were sitting around a table with a cake in the center. Sam giggled as she sat next to Martha, Ianto stood beside Gwen and Resse as Sam blew out the candles.
“You really shouldn’t have bothered with the cake…after all I thought this was a drinking game?” Sam said as she took hold of the mug. Jack shook his head and sat at the bar. She could over hear the conversation between the Doctor and Jack.
“You actually are going to let her drink?” The Doctor asked as Jack took a drink of water.
“Sure, she can handle it better than even I can.” Jack replied as Sam walked over to him. “And besides I can drive while they are drunk.” Sam held her mug up to him and laughed.
“Good thing too,” She said as she drank her mug dry. “Cause if you couldn’t then I would already be dead.” She picked up another mug and drained that one dry. The Doctor stared at her amazed.
Resse sat beside the Doctor and Jack; Martha joined them at the bar. Both had yet to even have a drink.
“So you aren’t going to have a drink?” Jack asked them as they grabbed a glass of water.
“Nah gotta drive those two loons home.” Resse said pointing to Gwen and Mickie.
“And I have to drive my husband, plus I don’t like the drinking games.” Martha replied; the Doctor smiled as Sam walked over to the window. She was tapping her leg as she went. “Sam…Doctor she’s-” The Doctor bolted out of his chair and ran over to her just before she could lean against the window. Sam looked at him as he held onto her waist.
“Sam how about you sit down.” He said as she blinked a couple of times.
“Good idea, Sam come here.” Gwen stood up and walked her back to the table. Sam sat down and took hold of her mug. “Maybe you should just stay there and drink while the rest of us go get something.” Gwen and Mickie left the pub only to come back with a set of package. The placed it at her feet as she gulped a mouth full of beer.
“What…you really didn’t have too…it’s huge.” She slurred as she spoke. Gwen smiled as she put the first box closer to her. “Can I open them now?” She looked at everyone and they smiled. The Doctor walked over to the window that she was almost going to fall through and looked out. He stared at the dark night that was coming. After she opened the boxes she walked over to the Doctor and stood beside him.
“Interesting isn’t it?” She asked as she looked back at the others, her slurred speech was gone. “They don’t feel it yet I always have.” The Doctor didn’t bother to look down at her.
“What do you feel?” He asked as she placed a hand against the window.
“I feel a storm, not like that of the weather of the world. But something else…something that will kill millions upon millions.” She replied as she stared blankly out at the open sky. “And you can feel it too, I can just see it in your eyes…and you fear it.” The Doctor looked down at her and smirked.
“Yeah well…it’s nothing to be feared yet…but why did you ask about Rani earlier?”
“John Hart mentioned her to my dad saying that she was looking for the Master’s Star…you really don’t know what that is do you?” The Doctor looked back up at the horizon. He sighed.
“I don’t, but I promise you that what ever it is it is not good.” Sam looked back at the others and smiled softly as they all laughed and joked. “Those paintings in your house; did you paint them?”
“Yeah, I just get an idea and I paint it…when I have the time to do so.” She looked back at him; he was looking down at her. She shuddered at the thoughts that were racing through her mind as he put a hand on her shoulder. He looked away from her.
“The paintings are of Gallifrey,” He whispered. Sam looked up at him and felt her own tears forming.
“I am so sorry, if I had known I would have…”
“What thrown them out?” He sounded angry, but she choked on her tears so hard that he looked down at her. She was choking on her own tears. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean that.” She took a deep breath and coughed once so that the choking stopped.
“It’s alright, just don’t get angry at what I say anymore…at least not right now.” She started to slur again and walked back to the table. She drank some more beer and laughed with everyone that was drinking with her. Jack smirked as she stumbled to stand up.
“I think you’ve had enough for tonight…all of you.” Jack said sternly as he grabbed her arm. He walked her and Ianto back to the SUV and placed Ianto in the front passenger seat and her in the back. The Doctor sat next to her as she blinked a couple of times. “I’m going in to get her presents then we are heading back to the flat. Keep her in the SUV, and Ianto…stay put.” Ianto saluted him sloppily and collapsed in the passenger seat. Sam was still blinking as she leaned on the Doctor’s shoulder.
“Ya know this…is so interesting…that…my dad isn’t my real…dad and that…the Master is my…real father.” She said in between hiccups. “So…how close…were you to my…father?” The Doctor opened his mouth to reply but found that no words formed as she passed out onto his lap.
“So she finally passed out…took her long enough.” Jack said as he finished loading everything into the back. “Usually she would have been out ten or more minutes ago.” Jack sat behind the wheel and started to drive back. The Doctor sat there and stared at the young girl in his lap, she was so young compared to him but in her mind she was an adult just like normal human would have been at her age.
