His face stopped abruptly. I felt his breath on my cheek, it smelled of faint peppermint. Did he realize how crazy he was driving me? I reached up, clasping my arms around his neck as I pulled him forward and closed my eyes.

“What are you doing?” He asked, pulling away breaking the arm link I had created. I looked at him confused, what was I doing? Wasn’t he going to kiss me?

“Weren’t you going to kiss me?”

“No I was getting your necklace”, His expression was a mixture of shock and smugness. “Wow, Melina”, he shook his head with a smirk, “You wanted to kiss me”, I shook my head defiantly. “Yes you did, you even closed your eyes, you were about to kiss me but I stopped you”, he got up off the bed and paced, the smirk still placed upon his full lips. He looked towards me, “I can’t believe you”.

“I wasn’t going to”, I pulled myself up, “I just didn’t want to offend you if you were so I decided to just go with the flow”, I retorted lamely. He rolled his eyes, he didn’t buy my excuse and neither did I.

“Bull shi.t you were going to kiss me I saw it in the way you looked at me”, His smirk turned into a playful grin. I pushed myself off the bed causing ripples of water to go through the water bed. I clenched my fists.

“You were teasing me!” I seethed. How could Trent be teasing me like that when I already had enough things going wrong in my life? I thought he was different. But he proved himself to be just like every other boy.

“Sorry Mel I just wanted to see how far you would let me go”, He took a blanket and began spreading it across the bed.

“Well congratulations you got pretty far”, I watched as he spread the blanket over the bed when he was finished there was more on his side than mine. I sighed, taking the blanket and spreading it evenly on both sides.

“You know you can still kiss me if you want”, the beds weight barely shifted as he sat down. I didn’t look up, maybe for the simple fact that I felt this bubbling feeling rising inside me and crawling up my throat. Maybe it was anger or maybe it was something else I wasn’t sure. I saw his face come into view as he laid down, his eyes looking up into mine, “I wouldn’t mind, hey I might even enjoy it”, He smirked, his hand reaching up for me. I pulled away. It was just another one of his stupid jokes he wanted to pull on me. He already got me good once I wasn’t going to allow him to get me again.

Trent you’re impossible”, I rolled my eyes, and started to gather pillows and a few blankets. He propped himself up on his elbows as he watched me.

“Where are you going?” He asked curiously as he stood up. I tried to keep my attention focused on the gathering of the blankets. I felt his eyes boring holes into my back so I turned around.

“Going to sleep on the couch downstairs”, his face fell as I said this. He stood up with a sigh.

“No, I’ll sleep on the couch you can have the bed”, He took the blankets and pillows from my hands and walked out the door, kicking it behind him so it would shut. I stood there looking at the closed door, trying to focus on anything or everything in the room except for the burning trail he left on me when he touched me. I was falling for my gay best friend, oh great.

I slept particularly well, but when I woke back up that was when reality hit me hard. There would be no ride home and parents who tell me they missed me. No breakfast on Sundays that consisted of the cliché bacon and eggs. None of that, that was all lost as soon as I left that house. I heard three knocks on the door.

“Come in”, I propped myself on my elbows and pulled my body slowly up. The running had caused me aches last night so I was extra sore today. My eyes opened slowly to see a little boy standing the door way. I blinked my eyes a few times to see if I was still dreaming. Why was a little boy standing there? Trent appeared soon after the boy with an apologetic smile.

“Sorry Mel, I specifically told Oliver not to come in this room but he never listens to me”, Trent hauled the boy over his shoulders with surprising strength. I never thought of Trent to be a guy who could carry anything especially a 100 pound boy.

“No its fine”, I stood up stretching my limbs out, “I need to get up anyway”, I yawned letting my jaw stretch then I turned towards Trent who was still standing there with the boy over his shoulders, “What’s for breakfast?” I asked in a cheery tone. He seemed caught of guard by my sudden cheeriness at first I was confused by his reaction. But then I remembered what happened last night between him and I, the whole part of him coming onto me, but it’s not like he raped me or anything I actually wanted him to flirt with me, it was nice to be liked by a boy for once.

“Well I was thinking of just going to McDonalds’ or something like that”, Trent shrugged, placing Oliver on the ground. Oliver looked up at Trent with twinkling eyes, obviously he liked McDonalds.

“Okay sure”, I checked for any eye boogers then I walked down the stairs with Trent by my side and Oliver skipping merrily down the stairs in front of us, “Is he always this happy?” I turned to Trent who shook his head.

“No he’s usually a talkative little brat, but he likes company as well as McDonalds”, He smiled softly. I looked down at Oliver who had reached the bottom of the stairs.

“Would you two just hurry up?” He growled turning on his heel and running for the door. I grimaced, he was truly a brat. I looked over at Trent who was giving me I-told-you-so look. I rolled my eyes, and grabbed his hand pulling him down the stairs with me. Everything was going to be fine. If only I knew how wrong I was.
