Chapter 1 : Daughter of the Dark//A Hogwarts Story\\
This is something new, it goes against every Harry Potter fact in the world but hey, it's fan fiction. I hope you like it. (:
It was dark outside, despite the hour of the mourning and the rain was thrashing harshly against the window panes. I sighed to myself and looked down once more at the trunk sitting at the bottom of my metal bunk. It was an old battered trunk, full of old battered things that had once belnged to someone else. My books had someone else's graffiti on them and my robes had someone elses smell. But I wasn't really used to anything different.
I had been horribly bullied my the other children when we'd arived back at the orphanage and I had arms full of riddiculous things like cauldrons and a kit full of viles of powders. They had found it positivly hillarious when they found my wand, waving it around shoting hocus pocus. I hated the orphanage, more then I had ever hated anything in my life. But there was no chace of me ever being fostered or adopted because I had an aner problem... and whenever I got angry bad things seemed to happen to the people around me.
I didn't know anything about my parents, all I knew was that a man, who looked 'well - to - do' in the matrons words, with long white hair had thrust me into the matrons arms as a baby, dropped a bag of large, strange gold coins on the step, asked her to take very good care of me and then he dissapeared into the night. I had been at the St. Peters and St. Pauls orphanage since then, since I was one, for ten long, long years. I knew I was different to the other children, they knew it too. I prefered to be alone with my thoughts, with books and my own imagination.
I was a very beautiful child, the matron said, I had very dark hair, very fair skin and quite startling blue eyes. The matron said that I would make a very beautiful woman one day, as long as I could get rid of the cruelty in my face, but I wasn't too sure what that meant.
There was a knock at my bedroom door and I was snapped out of my train of thought. I looked up to see the matron at the door, her eyebrow cocked.
"Theres a car here for you Amaranth" she said. I stood up and grabbed my trunk then heaved it down the stairs, the other children were staring at me over the banister and I could hear them snickering.
"Good bye matron. I'll see you in the summer" I said, walking to the car without a glance back.
Once I got to the station and was dropped off, I really didn't know what to do. I could see the people giving me strange looks, I was a very tiny girl with a huge trunk. I stood inbetween platforms nine and ten and I could feel the tears rolling down my face as I started to panic. I couldn't go back to the orphanage, the other children would never leave me alone if I did that.
"Don't you know how to get onto the platform?" a snide voice came from behind me. I span around to see a boy my age with a pointed face and bright white hair staring at me with his ice blue eyes. I shook my head and wiped my eyes.
"N - no. Can you please show me how?" I sobbed. The boy laughed at me but soon stopped when a hand was clamped on his shoulder.
"Who's your friend Draco?" the man said, staring down at me. I wiped my eyes again and looked up at the man.
"I'm Amaranth Dana" I said quietly. The man's face dropped.
"Well... thats a strange name isn't it" he said, his voice was desperatly trying to stay calm.
"It means-"
"Immortal" the man cut across me. I frowned and nodded.
"Well... lets get you onto the train" he said, picking up my trunk and putting it onto the trolley.
The man, his wife and Draco walked me to the platform where I got onto the train. I sat in a compartment alone and pulled out one of my many books. I was so involved with the book that I didn't notice the two boys walk into the compartment and I didn't notice the train start to move.
After a while I looked up and saw two red headed boys sitting with their heads together laughing about something. One of them saw me looking and smiled at me.
"Hello" I said, smiling back at him.
"Hey, I'm Fred Weasley, this is George" he said. I smiled at the other boy and Fred slid closer to me.
"So, are you scared about starting Howarts?" he asked. I nodded and he smiled at me.
"Don't worry, I'll look after you"
I yawned loudly and put my head back down on the desk.
"Miss Dana, if you don't sit up and pay attention then I will have you on cauldron cleaning duty for the rest of your time at Hogwarts. You have your O.W.L's this year" Professor Snape snapped at me from the front of the room. I propped my head up on my hand and threw a handful of leaves into my caudron. I had been at Hogwarts for five years and I loved it.
"Yeah Marnie, pay attention" Draco whispered in my ear. I pinched him on the leg and he stopped laughing.
"Shut up Malfoy, why don't you go crawl back up Snape's ass" I said, wobbling on my stool as he tried to tickle me. Draco was my best friend, and had been ever since I got to Hogwarts. The bell rang and I threw my stuff into my bag.
"So... you want to go hang out?" Draco asked, poking me in the shoulder.
"Yeah can do - FRED!" I squealed, jumping on him. I loved it when he waited for me, he picked me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist.
"Marnie?" Draco said behind me.
"Get fucked Malfoy" Fred said, walking away and dragging me with him. I mouthed sorry at Draco, but I knew he wouldn't speak to me for a week.
But I didn't care.
I was inlove with Fred Weasley.
