Beep. Beep. Beep.
That's what woke me up. I groaned quietly and opened my eyes. I was staring down at my broken leg. Great. Now I had a broken wrist and a broken leg. Just great. The door opened and David walked in.
"Hey sis, you're a hero." David grinned. He was holding something behind his back.
"How so? I only found a dead body." I said bitterly.
"Yeah, you found Matthew Callum's body. And get this, he's not dead." David said.
"Might as well be. He's in a freaken coma."
"Yeah, I guess. Hey, I brought you something." He pulled the thing from behind his back out.
"You brought me KrispyKremes?" I was getting all teary eyed from the thought. Damn morphine.
"Yeah. The house isn't the same without you," David said sadly.
"That's sweet of you to say. I really miss home. Better then being here." I glanced at the door, hoping Matthew would walk through. But he never did. The two weeks I was there, he never came.
I went back to school and everything was pretty much as it was before I left. Every once in a while someone would ask me about the events of that night. It was hard to talk about, but I answered their questions.
The winter formal was coming up too. Ashlee wanted to go so bad. And eventually, Jeremy, her boyfriend, asked her. She of course said yes. I was tagging along too. I was going stag though.
It wasn't like I didn't have any offers, I did. But I turned them down.
The formal was tomorrow and me and Ashlee were at our lockers, getting ready to go home.
"Hey Jamie," A boy said. I turned and smiled.
"Hey," I already knew what he was going ask. The only reason I turned guys down was because I was hoping by some miracle that Matthew would ask me. Even though I knew he was still in a coma.
"Um, I know it's late notice but I was wondering if you would go to the dance with me?" He asked nervously.
"Sorry, but I'm going with someone else." I lied. He looked sad, and then left. Ashlee slapped my arm.
"Ow!" I rubbed my arm.
"What was that for?" I asked her.
"Why'd you say no?"
"Because, I'm going alone."
"No, because you're hoping that Matthew will magically wake up and ask you." The bad thing about a best friend, was that she knew me a little too well.
"Fine, so what if I am? Is it wrong to hope?" I was playing innocent victim. But Ashlee didn't have a role. Well she did. It was the badass girl that spoke her mind and didn't give a crap what people thought.
"No, but it is wrong to place your entire future on some guy who probably won't remember you when he wakes up. If he wakes up." Ashlee spoke the truth. I glared at her.
"Whatever," I snapped and stalked home. I knew I was slowly pushing Ashlee away. But she fought hard to stay my best friend. And it was working.
Sorry it's short. I put out a poll to see if you guys want me to make a sequel. Thanks all my fans. You guys rock!
