Chapter 10 : Amanda Lynne or A mandolin? {Kevin Jonas} Chapter 9
So, I was sitting around last night, bored as hell, when I decided to load the Jonas Brothers CD into my computer. It was then that I discovered something I definitely didn't want to: apparently, Kevin happened to be playing a mandolin in one of my favorite songs off their new CD, Lovebug. I screamed when I discovered this. Why did Kevin have to be playing that instrument during a song I like? Now, the song I like that isn't mentioned in this story is rather obvious; I'm sure it wilAnyway, rate and message
Packing, for me, was easy. All I needed to pack was my clothes, my laptop, the notebooks of the stories I had not yet typed, some lead pencils and the lead to go with it, my mp3 player, some of my favorite books, my medication, a few of the bears in my bear collection (including the one Kevin sent me), and the one fake rose that Kevin sent me (a blue one). That was all I really needed with me. Of course, Betsy was different. Whereas I had two bags to fit all my things, Betsy had five to fit her clothes, make-up, three purses, several notebooks, her favorite novels, and anything of hers that had to do with cows (which was a lot).
Betsy and I then went out to wait on the porch for them. According to what Betsy told me, she had already contacted Kevin about pickingus up and where to do so. From what I could tell, Betsy and Kevin had been planning this for quite some time; for how long, I didn’t know. “So, Betsy, why exactly did you ask Kevin to do this for you?” I inquired.
“Because it would give you the opportunity to get to know Kevin,” Betsy replied. “When he suggested that you and I attend the concert, I asked Kevin if he would help me get out to California to pursue my dream of becoming an actress. He agreed to help me, but Mom and Dad wouldn’t let me go unless you came as well. Kevin was definitely pleased with this little development as I was already aware of the fact that he liked you. Somehow, things just worked out to our advantage; you’ll be able to get to know your future husband while I get acclimated to the life that I’d like to lead over the next couple years.”
As the Jonas Brother tour bus pulled up and Kevin poked his head out, I shook my head. “I still can’t believe that you would end up doing something like this though.” I quickly grabbed my bags and headed over to where Kevin was. “Hey, Kevin,” I said with a huge smile on my face. Though I had just seen him a few hours before, it was good to see Kevin. He quickly helped me in and then went to help Betsy in with all of her things. While I was waiting for Betsy to come in, I said hi to Joe and Nick. “Hey, guys, how are you doing?”
Joe’s jaw dropped. “You again?”
I laughed. Apparently, Kevin didn’t mention the fact that Betsy and I were coming with them the remainder of the way. He obviously wanted it to be a surprise for them, particularly after they ended up making fun of my name. “So, Kevin didn’t tell you that Betsy and I were going to here, huh? Well, I guess it serves you two right because I’ll probably end up being around your family an awful lot since Kevin likes me and I’m going to be moving out to California along with my younger sister,” I told him as Betsy came in.
“Hey, guys,” she said.
Kevin came in and, after glancing over at me, smiled. Betsy was right. He definitely seemed to like me. “So, Kevin?” Nick asked. “Why did you agree to let Betsy and Amanda come along on the remainder of the tour? I mean, I’m absolutely sure that Mom and Dad wouldn’t agree to having them here.” He quickly looked between me and Betsy.
“They did though. Mom and Dad let them stay here since we’ve only got about a week left of the tour. Then, once the latest tour ends, you won’t have to worry about either of them,” Kevin said as he took a seat next to me. “So, are you absolutely sure that you’re okay with coming here and chaperoning your younger sister while she’s out in California? From the sound of your tone the last time that we spoke, you didn’t seem that enthused about coming out to California so that Betsy could come out here in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. It sounded as if you were given absolutely no choice in the matter.”
“I’m fine,” I told him.
Kevin raised an eyebrow. “You know, I’m definitely not so sure that I believe that, Amanda. Now, what’s really going on?” he asked as he put an arm around my shoulders.
“Later,” I assured him.
“Okay, but I want you to tell me what’s been going on,” Kevin warned me. “I want to know. Now, I recall hearing something about you wanting me to read one of your stories, specifically a novel that’s nearly four hundred pages long. If you want, I’ll read it now.”
Upon hearing that Kevin was willing to take a look at my novel, I smiled. Despite the fact that I told him the length of my novel, Kevin still wanted to read it. “Sure,” I said grabbing my bag and removing the story from where it sat in there. Prior to about an hour ago, the story had not been printed or anything. With Kevin saying that he wanted to read it, I printed out a copy for him to read. Hopefully, Kevin would end up liking it and help me get it published. “Thanks for reading this for me. Maybe if I have you read this, it might help me get the novel published and give Betsy the opportunity to pursue her dream.”
“You’re welcome, Amanda,” he said taking the story away from me. He placed the story on the table and turned back to face me. There obviously seemed to be something else that the eldest Jonas Brother wanted of me. I could only wonder what it was that Kevin wanted. “So, I have a question for you. It’s something that Betsy couldn’t exactly give me a clear answer and I’d really like to hear the answer to this question of mine.”
“What’s the question?” I asked.
“Which of our songs are your favorite?” he asked.
That was one question in which I already had the answer to. It was something that Betsy and I had talked about previously so I wondered why Betsy refused to tell Kevin which songs were my favorite. I smiled and told him. “My favorite songs are Hello Beautiful, Burning Up, Lovebug, A Little Bit Longer, and the obvious one. In fact, the last song is so obvious; I’m not even going to say it.” Kevin, of all people, should have definitely known what the last song that I liked happened to be. He definitely needed to know.
It took a few minutes, but Kevin was finally able to figure out what the final song was. He did not say it out loud but rather laughed at what it was. “I should have known,” Kevin said.
“Yeah. You, of all people, should have known that I would end up liking that song. I mean, it was almost implied that I would end up liking that song,” I told him solemnly.
“I guess that’s true,” he said.
I quickly looked over at where Betsy, Joe, and Nick were sitting around talking. Somehow, I suspected that Kevin’s younger brothers, particularly Joe, would end up doing something that I didn’t want them to. “Hey, Kevin, could you do something for me?” I asked. Since he was the only one who didn’t make fun of my name during the live chat, Kevin was my only chance at keeping Nick and Joe from doing this. I was not about to let Kevin’s younger brothers do something like that to her after what happened two weeks ago.
“What do you need my help with?” he asked.
After looking back over at him from my sister and his brothers, I explained the situation to him. “Look, there is a specific name that I do not want you, Joe, or Nick to be calling me. Could you please make sure that I’m never called that by any of you guys?’ I asked.
“Sure,” Kevin told me.
“Thanks,” I replied giving him the name I hated. As Kevin went over and repeated all of this to his younger brothers, I was thankful for the fact that he seemed to like me. If not for that, I probably would have had to deal with them referring to me by a name I absolutely despise…other than Duh. This was a name that I had always been called by members of my family and I never liked it; I insisted to be called Amanda. With the Jonas Brothers, I was unsure of getting out of being called such if not for Kevin liking me. He would make sure that Joe and Nick didn’t call me by the name that I told him I hated.
Betsy came over while Kevin was busy telling Nick and Joe about the name I hated and didn’t want to be called. “So, what were you and Kevin over here talking about?” she inquired. She laughed. “From the looks of it, the conversation sounded rather interesting.”
I hit her in the arm. “Shut up, Betsy.”
Betsy giggled. “Oh, come on, Duh. We both know he likes you. I mean, why else would he be spending all of his time with you? There is absolutely no doubt in my mind of the fact that the eldest Jonas Brother would probably like to date you. I mean, you know how few people seem to like Kevin; everyone either likes Nick or Joe. It’s never Kevin.”
“Yeah, I know,” I said. That was one of the reasons that I liked him. No one truly appreciated Kevin and how important he really is to the group. In my opinion, anyone who doesn’t like Kevin is not a true Jonas Brothers fan. They need to appreciate each of the brothers for what they bring to the band, not just liking the two youngest Jonas Brothers.
Kevin came back and took his seat next to me. “They won’t call you that, Amanda. Nor will they ever be calling you Mandolin,” Kevin told me. “I made sure of it.”
I smiled upon hearing this. “Thanks, Kevin.”
Betsy, I soon noticed, was still sitting there. She was smiling. “So, Kevin, will you, at any point, end up dating my older sister? I’m sure she’d like that,” she said looking at me.
He laughed. “Maybe.”
I glowered at my younger sister. She obviously did not get the answer she expected to get. Betsy soon left and Kevin put his arm around me. “I lied to your sister. The fact is that I would definitely love to date you. I just didn’t want her to know about that.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yeah,” he nodded looking into my hazel eyes. “Somehow, you just remind me of music and that’s what my entire life is about. That might actually be because one of your nicknames is mandolin. But, in any case, I’d definitely like to date you. Maybe someday I will.”
I sighed. Though I initially did not want anyone to refer to me as such, I figured that it would be alright with Kevin. After all, he was the one that stood up for me during the live chat. “Kevin,” I told him quietly, “I don’t mind if you call me Mandolin. But only you though. I don’t ever want Nick or Joe to call me that. Only you’re allowed to call me that.”
Kevin smiled. “My own private nickname for you.”
“Yeah.”
“Good,” he said wrapping his arms around me. “Because I definitely deserve my own nickname for you. After everything I did for you, I deserve to be able to call you Mandolin.”
“I know,” I nodded. Looking over at my sister, I saw that Betsy had a smirk on her face. Somehow, she knew that Kevin and I would end up like this. I don’t know how she knew, but right now, I didn’t care. All I cared about right now was the fact that Kevin might be able to help me get my story published in order to help Betsy pursue her dream of becoming a star. When I fell asleep that evening, I found myself doing so while still in Kevin’s arms. He didn’t want to let go of me. Betsy, from the looks of it, was grinning from where she sat playing cards with Nick and Joe. Not caring what my sister said of what I was about to do, I hugged him back. Kevin looked down, upon realizing what I did, and smiled at me. “Goodnight, Mandolin. I’ll see you in the morning,” he said softly. There was more to it, but I didn’t hear what Kevin said to me. I was already drifting off to sleep and didn’t want to hear it.
