My lesson on love
Chapter 3 : My lesson on love [3]
Ok so this is the last part...and its short cas remember its for school but in a word document it is about 18,000 and about 31 pages....i feel sorry for my teacher though...he is the one who has to read it...i hope you all enjoyed reading it...cas i REALLY enjoyed writing it...
The teacher had burst in only moments after Brittany had disappeared out the door. She came in looking flushed and tired, I could see the massive bags under her brown eyes and her dull red hair, looked flat and dead. She wore flats and black pants which looked worn and old. Her white blouse made her look like she was in the wrong place, more suited to an office than a school. In one hand she carried a white coffee mug and in the other a stack of papers. She dropped the papers on the desk and turned around to sit in the chair behind the desk. She fell into the chair and searched through the papers in front of her.
“Class, it seems we have a new student.” The teacher said keeping her eyes on the papers. “Could Kayla Remington please stand up and show who you are to the rest of the class.”
I went to stand up but I felt a tug pulling me down, I turned to see Luke with a smirk on his face.
“Luke.” I hissed. “What are you doing?”
Luke turned to face me. “Let her guess who you are.”
I shook my head and looked down, I saw our hands still entwined with each other and I felt another smile come over my face. I looked up again to the teacher to see her tired eyes searching us all, trying to find me. I felt pressure on my hand and I felt my cheeks burn red and another smile came over my face.
“Why are you so happy?” Luke said resting his head on his books and turning to face me.
“This is my first day of school and it is the best day of my life so far. I never want it to end.” I nearly shouted.
The teacher turned her gaze on me and opened her mouth to pronounce her words. “Kayla Remington, stand up.”
I gave Luke a pleading look, hoping he will let me stand up, so everything can continue. I heard a chuckle coming from Luke and watched as his body shook from his laughter.
“Fine.” He replied in between laughs.
I gave him a bright smile before I pushed my chair back, letting it scrape along the ground, making the teacher turn towards me and I stood up.
“Kayla Remington?” The teacher asked.
I nodded my head and the teacher gave a little sigh. “I am Ms. Prart and welcome to year 10 History.”
I nodded my head again and sat back down in my chair, ignoring the noise it made along the floor.
Ms. Prart seemed to be lacking something, I don’t understand what though. It seems that she is drained and completely unwilling to do anything. I try and picture what it would have been like for her, what could have made her this way. I could see the laugh lines around her mouth and it seemed that she must have had fun, heaps of it when she was younger but I don’t understand what could have made her this bad. The bell went for the end of class and I felt a cold breeze flow over my hand, I looked down and saw my hand hanging there alone. I felt a little sad but Ms. Prart and her sadness seemed to be overcoming me, making me want to know, I was so tempted just to walk up to her and ask why she was so sad, a five-year-old would do that not a fifteen-year-old. I need to be more sophisticated about this, I need to make friends with her first before I do anything else.
“Kayla, are you going to go home?” Luke said beside me, but his voice sounded so far away.
“Yeah.” I replied in my dream state, not moving from my spot to go home.
“Kayla.” Luke shook me making my head shake back and forth.
I turned to him and blinked a couple of times. “I’m sorry, did I miss something?” I asked.
Luke shook his head. “It’s 3:30pm. We’re all going home now.”
“Oh.” I said turning a deep shade of red. “I was just out.”
Luke chuckled. “I noticed.”
I picked up my books, stood up out of the chair and made my way towards the door, humming a tune to myself.
“Kayla.” I turned around to look at Luke, who was scratching the back of his head.
“Yes.” I replied.
“Do you…ahhh…need…ahhh…do you want...” Luke took a deep breath. “Do you want a lift home?”
I shrugged my shoulders. “I don’t know if Sar…I mean my mother is picking me up.”
Luke nodded his head, hanging his head slightly. “Ahh…its ok.”
I smiled. “Walk me to my locker, I still need help opening it.” I asked.
Luke nodded his head and we continued on our way towards my locker.
“Luke, can I ask you something.” I asked when we reached my locker.
“Sure, anything.” Luke replied with a smile on his face.
“Toby said you don’t talk about your family. Why is that?” I asked biting my lip, hoping I wasn’t prying. I watched him take a sharp intake of breath. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.” I shot back.
Luke gave a little chuckle. “Can you keep a secret?” He asked.
I nodded my head, knowing that secrets are what my family does best, secrets are what make everything worth while.
“I…” My phone started ringing.
I quickly pulled my phone out of my pocket and answered it.
“Hello?” I said into the phone.
“Kayla, miss. It’s Sarah. I’m waiting in the car for you.” Sarah said.
I nodded my head. “Thanks, I’ll be out in a minute.” I replied.
I heard the phone click and I pulled it away from my ear slowly.
“Who was it?” Luke asked.
“It was my mother. She’s here. I have to go.” I said, my heart falling in my chest.
I quickly shut my locker and slung my bag over my shoulder. I could feel my heart falling fast as I walked away from Luke right now.
“See you tomorrow?” Luke called from my locker.
I felt my heart rise and a smile came over my face. I turned around and yelled back down the corridor. “You bet.”
I watched a smile come over his face, which made me smile even brighter.
I ran outside, to the shiny black car waiting for me. I pulled open the passenger side door and I hoped in dropping the bag at my feet.
“How was your first day?” Sarah asked.
My smile grew even brighter. “The best day of my life.”
Sarah gave a little laugh as she backed out of the car park. “That’s good, your parents will be pleased.”
I smiled again and put on my seatbelt, leaning back into the seat, I took a deep breath trying to captivate every single moment that I had today, I wanted to live it again and again, I loved today too much. We arrived home far to fast, I picked up my bag from my feet and ran inside slinging the bag over my shoulder as I ran. I dropped the bag near the front door and ran straight into the kitchen where I found Martha covered in flour.
“What’s happened here?” I asked.
Martha looked up from the metal bowl in front of her. “Hello Kayla. Have fun today?”
I ran to the stool. “The most.” I replied.
“That’s good.” Martha said turning back to her cooking.
“What is with the sad face Martha? What is wrong?” I asked, my mood doing a complete flip.
Martha sighed and looked up at me. “Kayla, it is ba…”
“Kayla. Your home.” A familiar voice called.
I turned around and saw my mother in the doorway. “Hello mother.” I said hoping off the stool.
“How was your day?” She asked.
“It was the best day of my life.” I said walking up to her.
“That is good, now, come with me.” She said hurrying me out of the kitchen.
I turned and looked back at Martha, her face looked fallen, sad, as if someone she loved dearly was now lost.
I followed behind my mother to my father’s study. My mother knocked on his door and I heard his deep voice call from within.
“Come in.” He called.
She turned the knob and pushed open his door, my father sat at his desk buried in papers. He looked up from his papers as mother and I walked into the room.
“How was your first day of school, Kayla?” My father asked.
“It was most enjoyable.” I replied trying to be completely presentable to my father.
“I have a surprise for you.” My father said in a sing-song voice.
I felt my spirits rise and I counted over everything that my father could have gotten me. He opened up a door to the side of his desk and there stood a man with sandy brown hair, pushed back and he was wearing a suit, he looked very professional, he seemed to be in his early 20’s, late teens. His blue eyes seemed cold and uninviting. I felt isolated and alone staring into them.
“This is Lance.” My father said presenting him to me. “Your future husband.”
I was awestruck. This was the worst thing that could have happened today. Everything made sense now that is why Martha looked at me that way. I stumbled back and hit the wall. I fell down the wall and started crying. I saw a scowl come over Lance’s face, he seemed so cold, so dead inside. Both my mother and father started talking to Lance, neither bothering to help me, neither bothering to find out about my feelings, how I feel about this but this was how arranged marriages worked. You never accept it at the start but you learn to deal with it. I brought myself up onto my feet and dried my eyes.
“Kayla, daughter, come say hello to Lance.” My father said dragging me over to Lance. I didn’t try and resist, I just followed behind my father until I stood in front of Lance. I looked up at him and I felt his icy stare on me.
“Hello Lance.” I said in my strongest voice.
“Hello Kayla.” He said back, his voice sounded rigid and exactly like he looked, dead.
I turned and walked out the door, not bothering to ask to be excused, not bothering to find out anything about him. I left him and my parents alone. I shut the door of my father’s study but I could still hear his voice on the other side.
“She is just nervous, she will warm up.”
I could have thrown up right there, I felt so sick. Instead I ran to my room.
I slammed the door shut behind me and fell on my bed, new tears sprang from my eyes. I didn’t want to do this, I didn’t want to be married, I am only fifteen. I know I wouldn’t be married until I am eighteen but I don’t want to marry Lance, I want to marry someone that I choose, who I love with all my heart, who I am willing to give my life for. I want my own Romeo, I want to be Juliet and have Romeo. I sigh and pull my blue iPod off my bed side table and put in my headphones. I sniffle and put on ‘Hear you me’ by Jimmy Eat World. It was the perfect song for the moment. I closed my eyes and swayed my head to the beat, I let the tears fall from my eyes, not bothering to stop them. I watched them splash onto my bed and make my bed damp. I looked up around my room, I saw the pale purple walls stare back at me, bare. I saw my desk in the far corner of my room and my vanity on the other side of me. I saw the massive wooden door that let to my walk in closet and I looked to my left and saw the other wooden door, which was the bathroom. I finally realized that no pictures hung in my room, there was no memory of anything anywhere. I had spent fifteen years of my life locked up in a house, away from the rest of the world. I still don’t understand what father meant when he said I was a Manning. Yes, I knew that was my last name and I know I am extremely rich but why must I keep my identity a secret, it makes no sense to me I am just another person. I sighed and laid down on my four-poster bed and looked up at my white ceiling. The song continued playing and I watched the white ceiling form shapes and lines. I heard the door creak open but I didn’t turn my head to see who it was.
“Kayla.” A soft voice called to me.
I slowly turned my head and looked at who entered. I saw a sad Martha standing there covered in flour. I sat up and turned off my iPod, I opened my mouth to speak but I just burst into another fit of tears. I put my head in my hands and cried, I heard feet shuffling and the rustle of clothing, I kept my head down my ears only filled with my own sobs. I felt the space next to me fall and I leaned into them and continued crying. I felt two arms wrap themselves around me and try to give me comfort.
I sat there wrapped up in Martha’s arms, her rocking me back and forward, trying to calm me down.
“Kayla.” Martha said. I moved out of her arms and I looked up at her, my eyes all red and puffy. “I’m sorry about this, I would never want this for my own child let alone one which I consider my own.”
I nodded my head. “I don’t like him, he seems so dead.” I said my voice crackly and croaky.
Martha tried to give me a smile but failed. “I’m sure everything will be alright in the end. Everything always is.” She gave me a squeeze before standing up. “Would you like some dinner Kayla?”
I shook my head. “I’m not hungry, I don’t want to leave here for as long as he is here.” I spat.
Martha nodded her head and turned towards the door. “Goodnight then. I will see you in the morning.”
I nodded my head. Martha turned and walked out the door leaving me alone. I sighed and looked down at my school uniform. I slowly got up off the bed and walked towards my dresser where I had put my pajamas only this morning. This day has gone so slow, but in a good way, it means there was more to saver of each and every moment. I picked up my striped shorts and shoved them on taking off my skirt, I then traded my school shirt for my black singlet. I snatched out my headband and threw it at the vanity. I dragged my feet back to my bed where I instantly fell on my bed and pulled the covers from underneath me to over me. I sighed, closing my eyes, I tried to think of today and what had happened throughout the day. But all I could see was Lance’s face, I tried to get around it but it stood as a block, not letting me through. I could have screamed out in anger but instead I thought off the only thing that I thought would work. A smile came over my face as I found that it did in fact work, sending me off into a deep sleep.
I managed to whisper two words. “Thank you Luke.”
I woke to the sound of my alarm blaring in my ear, I threw a pillow at the clock hoping it would stop and threw the blankets over my head.
“Up. Up. Up.” I heard a voice say.
I instantly threw the blankets off of me and hoped out of bed, stumbling a bit when I reached the floor. I looked around for the source of the voice.
“Up. Up. Up.” The voice said again.
I continued searching my room trying to find the person hiding in my room.
“Its great isn’t it.” Someone whispered in my ear.
I jumped and turned around to see Lance there. I nearly screamed but I caught myself at the last second and controlled myself.
“Hello Lance.” I stuttered.
Lance bowed. “Hello Kayla.” He said in his single voice, his dead voice.
He turned and started walking away.
“Wait.” I cried running up after him. He turned around and looked at me with one eyebrow raised. “Who put that on my alarm?”
“Your mother.” He said before turning around and walking out the door shutting it behind him.
“Up. Up. Up.” The alarm clock said again.
I picked up a pillow off my bed and threw it at the alarm clock, which immediately turned it off. I sighed and walked towards my uniform, which lay on the floor. I picked up the blue and white check skirt and put it on over my shorts, taking my shorts off, doing the same with my shirt. I pulled on my white socks and rummaged round in my draws to find a pair of bike shorts. I found a pair and pulled it out, putting them on. I turned back to my vanity and picked up my brush, brushing my brown hair before putting it up in a messy ponytail. I grabbed my black school shoes and chucked them on my feet, tying up the laces. I walked to my door letting my school shoes clomp along the ground and pulled my door opened. I checked the hallway and saw no sign of Lance. I quietly shut my door and walked down the stairs, trying to make as little noise as possible, which is quite hard in school shoes.
I ran into the kitchen and saw a bowl of cereal waiting for me on the bench. I instantly ran to my breakfast, sitting down on the stool and devouring it in a matter of seconds. Martha came in after my spoon clattered down in my bowl.
“How are you this morning Kayla?” She asked turning towards the fridge.
“I’m good, I guess.” I sighed.
“You best get your bag, Sarah will be here soon.”
I nodded my head and I heard the horn go outside. I jumped off the stool and ran towards the front door picking up my bag that lay next to the door and slinging it over my shoulder. I pulled open the door and looked outside at the black car waiting for me. I smile as I realized that school was going to get me away from this retched place, I never wanted to come back here. I opened the passenger door and when I saw Sarah sitting in the driver’s seat, I started laughing.
“What are you laughing at?” Sarah asked.
I sat down in the seat, dropping my bag at my feet and putting on my seatbelt. “I’m laughing because for I am now away from my parents and Lance.”
Sarah burst out laughing. “That isn’t that funny.”
“Then why are you laughing?” I asked.
“Because…” Sarah stopped laughing. “I actually don’t know why I was laughing.”
Sarah started the car and we made our way down the dive towards school.
We reached school in a matter of minutes and I saw Luke sitting on one of the stone benches, I smiled even brighter at that. I opened the car door, grabbing my bag and slamming the door behind me. I slung my bag over my shoulder and made my way towards Luke, who was looking at his hands and hadn’t seen me yet. I stood next to him.
“Hi Luke.” I said.
I watched his body shake from fright as he slowly turned towards me. I couldn’t help but giggle.
“You scared me Kayla.” Luke said.
“I noticed.” I laughed. “What are you doing out here?”
“Waiting for you.” He shrugged.
I felt my cheeks burn a bright red as I blushed. Luke picked up his bag from the ground and slung his over his shoulder. I started walking and he walked with me into the science building, which was where my locker was.
“What have you got first?” Luke asked.
I pulled my bag around and pulled out my diary, checking my timetable.
“Drama.” I said. Luke nodded his head. “What have you got first?”
“Ahhh…” Luke scratched the back of his head. “I got Math’s.” He said.
I nodded my head. “I hate Math’s.”
Luke laughed. “So do most people.”
I opened my locker with some difficulty and dragged my bag across the ground. It felt extremely heavy now. I opened it up a second time and found all my textbooks in there.
“Luke.” I said looking up at him. “Can you help me?”
Luke looked at me with a curious look in his eye. “What with?”
“Textbooks.” I replied.
Luke nodded his head and helped me pull out my textbooks and put them in my locker. There was a lot of text books, I don’t understand how they managed to get all of the textbooks actually in my bag. Luke told me the subjects each book connects to. He helped me with my locker until the bell went and we were both forced to go to class.
The bell went for recess and I couldn’t grasp that fact, it felt like only two seconds ago I was laughing and talking with Luke before class. I left the hall clutching my books to my chest and saw Luke leaning against the entrance of the hall.
“Hey.” I said turning towards him. “What are you doing here?”
Luke shrugged. “Its only your second day you can’t possibly know your way around yet.”
I laughed. “Now that is true.”
He grabbed my hand and led me off down the hall. There was no blush come over my cheeks there was only pure joy and the tingling sensation running up my arm. He ran and I ran after him, we ran all the way to the tree. The tree that I had found yesterday, He swung himself up onto a branch and I smiled following close behind him. He continued climbing and I climbed after him. We sat in the topmost branches, far away from the ground below.
“Luke, Why did you bring me here.” I asked lying down on the branch without any slipping.
I heard some leaves rustle and I knew that Luke was moving around. “Because.” He said, his voice sounded close, almost as if he was right next to me.
I turned my head to look at him and I caught sight of his deep blue eyes. They were like an ocean washing me around in the tides of the waves. I sighed and I felt Luke’s warm breath on my face. I had never been this close to a guy before, not in my fifteen years of life. I closed my eyes and breathed in the citrus scent, oranges and lemons filled my nose, making me want even more. I felt lips being pressed against my own and I opened my eyes to be faced with Luke’s face. I closed my eyes again and took a deep breath. Kissing Luke back as his lips melded to mine. He pulled away and I felt a blush start to rise in my cheeks. I looked at him.
“Is that what we came here for?” I asked.
I watched Luke slowly nod his head and then look up at me.
“I need to tell you something?” He said. I heard the bell go for the end of recess. “I’ll tell you at Lunch.” He said.
I nodded my head, my curiosity reaching to an overwhelming height, I wanted so badly to know what he wants to tell me and I can’t wait another two hours. He climbed out of the tree and I followed behind him. Once I reached the bottom he grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug, I hugged him back never wanting to let him go. He reluctantly let go and grabbed my hand again, leading me back to school where I had to endure two hours of torture trying to figure out what he was going to say.
I reached my SOSE class in record time, after sprinting to my class, I literally fell into the room, dropping my books and stumbling over my own feet. I cursed myself for being so stupid, for making such a fool of myself. I looked up and saw the teacher staring down at me.
“Are you ok?” She asked.
I gathered up my books and stood up trying to clam myself down. “Yes. I’m fine, I’m Kayla Remington, I started yesterday.” I said.
The teacher nodded her head. “I’m Mrs. Sharp. You can sit over there where there is a spare desk.”
I walked over and sat down at the spare desk, which was a desk that stood near the window, as the teacher spoke, I looked out the window, thinking about Luke. The door burst open again and I turned to see Jake enter the room. I turned back to the window but I could hear his shoes along the carpet. He stopped at the table I was sitting on and in the reflection of the window I saw Jake standing there his icy blue eyes boring into me.
“Your in my seat.” He said in a soft voice, almost as if from a dream.
I turned towards him. “I’m sorry, but the teacher told me to sit here.” I said before turning back to look out the window.
“Jake, sit down.” I heard Mrs. Sharp say.
Jake reluctantly sat down in the seat next to me. He leaned over towards me and spoke softly.
“I know who you are?”
I turned towards him. “Who am I than?”
“A Manning.” He spat.
I was shocked. “How do you know I am one?”
“Because I know you, and I would prefer to put a bullet in your head than see you anywhere near me or my brother.” Jake hissed.
I shrunk back into my seat and tried to ignore Jake for the rest of the class.
“Stay away from Luke or suffer the consequences.” Jake hissed in my ear.
Thankfully the bell went for my next class and I quickly hurried out and made my way towards English. I wanted to get this class over as quick as possible. I ran down the corridor and entered my English room, I sat down, avoiding the eyes of everyone around me. I heard feet make their way towards me, the chair next to me scraped back and someone sat down.
“I’d watch where you tread Manning.” Jake hissed in my ear.
I turned to the other side, trying to hide the tears about to come spilling out of my eyes. I saw Luke enter and walk towards me, sitting in the chair on the other side of me. I closed my eyes and moved my head away from him.
“Kayla, are you ok?” Luke asked taking a seat next to me.
I could feel Jakes icy blue eyes bore down on me, daring me to make a mistake, daring me to give him a chance to kill me. I took a deep breath trying to calm my nerves, my breath was shaky as if it was on the verge of tears. I tried to swallow them away, I didn’t want them to fall. I pushed my chair back with such force that it fell over. Everyone became silent, no one dared to speak, everyone was listening. I ran out of the room trying to leave before the first of my tears came. I made it outside and I fell down the wall next to the door. Tears finally falling freely from my eyes, I cried, letting the sobs escape my lips and my tears falling down my cheeks. I heard the door open and close but I didn’t bother to look up.
“Kayla.” Their soft voice rang out.
I looked up with my blurry vision and I looked up at Luke.
I snuffled. “What are you doing out here?”
“Checking to make sure you are ok. Are you ok?” Luke asked I could see the worry in his eyes.
“I’m fine.” I cried fresh tears fell down my face.
Luke pulled me into him and I continued crying as he held me safe in his arms. I never wanted to be apart from Luke but I wanted to be safe and I always felt safe around Luke. My tears stopped long enough for me to say two words.
“He knows.”
“Knows what?” Luke said confused.
“About me. He knows about me.” I nearly screamed.
“That you’re a Manning.” Luke said. “I already knew that.”
I sat there shocked. “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I didn’t want you to know the truth about me. I thought you might hate me.” He said looking down.
I turned and faced him. “I could never hate you. I have known you for only a day and I think I am in love with you.”
Luke looked up at me and I could see his blue eyes shine. “You…you love me?”
I nodded my head. “I love you Luke Mitchells.”
“I love you Kayla Manning.” Luke replied.
We sat there next to each other for the remaining of class. I didn’t want to go back in there with Jake there.
The lunch bell rang and Luke went back into the class quickly to get our books. He came back out and we walked to my locker. Once we reached my locker I opened it and chucked my books in before I slammed it shut again.
“Meet you at the tree, I have to tell you something.” Luke said running off into the distance.
I nodded my head and headed off in the direction of the tree, the big tree. I walked at a slow pace, taking my time to get there, I admired the school and all its beautiful surroundings, the lush green grass, the tall trees with their brown trunks and bright green leaves. I walked into the clearing that housed our tree. I climbed the branches and sat myself in the tree waiting for Luke to come. I lay down, balancing my body weight and watched the clouds in the sky.
“Kayla.” I turned around and saw Luke on the ground.
“Come on up.” I called a smile on my face.
“This is better said on the ground.” Luke shouted up.
I rolled my eyes and climbed down and out of the tree. As soon as my foot touched the ground Luke pulled me into his embrace and planted a kiss on my forehead.
“I am not who I say I am.” Luke said.
I pulled myself out of his arms. “Then who are you?”
“I am Luke Richmand.” He said hanging his head.
A small smile came over my lips and I ran back into his arms. “And what is the difference?”
“Our parents hate each other, for reasons I can not grasp. We have to keep this secret, no one can know.” Luke said pulling me out of his grasp.
I nodded my head and I saw Luke smile. He leaned in and gave me a kiss on the lips. “Lets get something to eat.” Luke said.
I nodded my head again and he grabbed my hand and started leading me out of the clearing towards the carpark. Where his car was waiting.
I climbed into his big black SUV and he turned on the car backing out of the carpark and we started off down the main road. He put on the music and I started singing along to the lyrics even if I didn’t know them. I felt completely comfortable and I felt completely safe, as if I was invincible. I smiled at Luke who turned to me and smiled back. There was no warning, there was no clues all we felt was the sudden pull of someone ramming into us. The car tipped and we started tumbling down a hill. The car rolled throwing us around. I closed my eyes waiting for everything to stop and then it did. We were upside down as the car was on its roof and I looked and saw Luke with his eyes closed and blood slowly dripping from his head.
“LUKE!” I screamed. He didn’t stir and I started crying. “LUKE.” I screamed trying to get him to wake up. I unbuckled my seat belt and I instantly fell to the ground, landing awkwardly. “Luke.” I crawled over to him. “Luke please don’t leave me.” I cried.
I fumbled with his seatbelt trying to get him out. He didn’t stir. I couldn’t get him out and I started crying again
“LUKE.” I screamed.
I watched the blood stream down his head and make a puddle on the car. His eyelids closed as if in a deep sleep. There were cuts all over his arms and legs, each with a layer of blood covering them. There was so much blood covering him I didn’t know if he was even there. I crawled out of the car, cutting my hands on the broken glass of the window.
“HELP!!!” I screamed from the ditch where Luke and I had fallen. “SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US!!!” I screamed again. No one was listening to me, I couldn’t hear the sound of cars, all I could hear was the sound of my own screams. I did the only thing I could think of, I ran up the hill, hoping someone would stop for me.
I made it to the top of the hill and I ran into the middle of the road.
“HELP!!!” I screamed falling on my knees letting the tears fall from my eyes.
No cars where on the road, everything was silent, no birds sung as if they knew the tragedy that has struck them. Then I heard it, the slow rumble of a car. I looked up from my hands and saw a red sedan come over the hill. I ran towards the car, unaware that they were moving. I heard the screeching of tires and I stopped just short of being hit by the car.
“Are you crazy?” A man said getting out of his car. He looked me up and down , he saw the scratches on my arm and legs, the blood dripping down all over my body and making a massive puddle at my feet as if it was going to swallow me whole.
“I need help.” I whispered, I felt little strength, even to speak was becoming a hard task.
“What happened to you?” He said.
I turned around and hoped he would follow. I ran down the hill towards the overturned SUV. I ran to the drivers side where Luke still hung limply.
“I got help.” I told Luke, kneeling down next to him.
“HOLY SHIT!” I turned and saw the man at the top of the hill looking down at the overturned car. He ran and skidded down the hill towards me. “Are you ok? We need to get you out of here.”
“Call an ambulance. My friend is hurt.” I said looking up at him.
He whipped a phone out of his pocket and dialed 000, I turned away from him and back towards Luke. I touched his bloody cheek hoping he would wake up. He didn’t even stir.
“Luke Richmand, I love you.” I whispered.
I kissed his bloody cheek and I heard a dripping sound. I instantly stood up and walked towards the front of the car where I saw a puddle of something. I knelt down next to it and tried to study it.
“Get away from that.” I heard the man call.
I turned around to see him running at me. I turned back away and crawled towards Luke’s window. I started stroking his cheek and trying to undo his seatbelt.
“Don’t do that, the ambulance said they will be here in 5 minutes.” The man said.
I closed my eyes and nodded my head, removing my hand from Luke’s seatbelt.
“Please come back to me Luke, please for the love of God come back to me, I need you Luke.”
“MOVE!!!” I heard the man scream.
I turned to look at him to see a look of shock and horror all over his face. I turned back and looked upon the face of Luke. I felt a sudden jerk pull me back and I turned to see the face of the man with a pained expression on his face. I stood up and started to walk back towards the car. I saw an explosion, the ground shook making me unsteady, I watched the SUV be engulfed in flames.
“NOOOO!!!” I screamed. I tried to run towards the truck but the man held me back, holding me tightly around the waist. “NO!!! LUKE!!! LUKE!!! NO!!! Let me go, I need to save him.” I struggled against the man holding me but my vision soon became cloudy and I knew that my tears were coming. I fell to the ground in a heap, my head in my hands, tears falling from my eyes and through my fingers. I wanted to run up and save Luke but I knew it was too late. I felt someone patting my back, I knew it was the man doing it but I felt no comfort. I only felt cold, alone, I wanted Luke with all my heart, I wanted him.
“I love you Luke. Always and forever.” I whispered through my tears.
I started sobbing, my tears becoming louder and louder, I couldn’t control it, I couldn’t control anything. I felt my tears leave my eyes as if they wouldn’t stop and yet I never wanted them to stop. I reached out my hand to the burning car.
“LUKE!!!” I screamed as loud as my lungs could manage.
The ambulance came and pulled me to my feet strapping me onto a stretcher. I kept my head to the side and watched everything fly by me. My time seemed to be going slower as if I was stuck in one place while everyone was moving forward. I didn’t want anything to do with anyone. I lay silently in the ambulance, as they sped off to the nearest hospital to treat my wounds. An ambulance officer sat with me, he tried to talk to me but I just didn’t reply. I just stared at the wall ignoring everything around me. I saw the explosion over and over again. The flames licking away at the black SUV, the ground shaking with such terrible force, my own screams and cries ringing in my ears, I closed my eyes trying to block it all out. But it kept repeating itself over and over again, a lone tear fell from my eye and down my cheek staining the stiff white sheets of the stretcher. I wanted nothing more than to have Luke hold me in his arms, to have his gorgeous smile and absolutely deep blue eyes that could make you see your greatest desires in them. His dark black hair that fell over his ears and made you want to run up and kiss him. I let a smile come over my face as I remembered Luke. Everything about him seemed absolutely perfect and now I won’t get to see him ever again.
I arrived at the hospital and was rushed in, I didn’t understand why people would want to save me, I was not worth saving. I closed my eyes and tried to make myself fall unconscious, to make myself fall into a deep sleep that would kill me. I was transferred from a stretcher to a hospital bed and I was taken up to a room to be given a proper check. They put me in a bath and my whole body started stinging, the dried blood being washed away as I sat in the bath. I had to have x-rays to make sure I was ok. I didn’t cry as I would have before. I barely flinched, I felt so dead inside. They came in with my x-rays and told me that I was going to have to have surgery to remove some of the glass and metal that had been imbedded into my skin and I had broken three of my ribs and I had broken my left wrist. I closed my eyes ignoring the enormous pain that was coming from all over my body. I didn’t want to be here, I wanted to be somewhere safe, with Luke.
They finished removing all the glass and metal out of my skin and started stitching me up in almost every place of my body. Once they completed that the bandaged up almost all of my wounds so I wouldn’t reopen them. They bandaged up my chest for my ribs and then they put a cast on my left wrist, they kept saying how lucky I was that I was alive, but I didn’t feel lucky, I didn’t even feel loved, I felt alone. They took me back to my room and I lay there, in my own private room, with no one else to look at. The walls where a plain white along with the sheets, everything was white. I heard the door open and I turned to look at my mother and father come in. My mother instantly ran to my bedside.
“Honey are you ok?” My mother said I could see the tear stains on her cheeks.
“I’m fine mother.” I replied in my sweetest voice.
My mother smiled at me and then she looked to my father with the smile still on her face. “She’s fine.”
My parents started trying to talk to me but I kept ignoring their questions, looking out the window instead, watching the world go past me, watching the people below. I envied them and I felt sorry for them, none of them know anything about the pain but I wanted to be one of them with nothing to worry about and no strict family rules. My parents eventually left, leaving me alone. I sighed and I felt my insides stop. I wanted to be gone, away from this world. I heard the doctor talk to my parents on the other side of the door.
“All her injuries are clear of infection but she isn’t stable yet and I think it might be a good idea to have her see a therapist when she gets better, she doesn’t talk and she keeps staring out the window, no one knows why though.”
I sighed and turned to look at the door seeing the doctor in his white doctor coat with his back to me. I sighed and pulled out a piece of paper from the bedside table next to me. I picked up a pen and wrote few words. I folded it in half and in half again before I sat up and walked towards the window. I opened it, thrusting it up with my hands. I heard tearing and another break but I didn’t care, I needed the window open.
I finally got it open and looked out the window to the busy street below. I pulled off all the cords on me and took out all the needles. I heard the machine flat line but I focused my attention on the window. I sat on the ledge of the window looking at the world below me.
“Kayla.” I heard a voice behind me.
I closed my eyes and pushed myself off the ledge of the window. Sending me flying towards the pavement below. I thought of Luke and how we would see each other again someday. I felt my body make contact with the pavement and I could hear almost every bone in my body break, making everything around me turn black and I finally felt nothing, I felt dead.
3rd Person view
Kayla’s mother burst into the room and watched her only daughter fall towards her death. She watched as she went flying through the air and hitting the pavement with such force, she was sure she heard her bones snap. Kayla’s mother watched as blood started forming at her daughter’s head. On lookers stopped and made a circle around Kayla, not knowing anything about her, just watching her fall from the 8th floor of the hospital. Doctors, nurses, patients, surgeons, visitors, including poor Martha watched this girl fall to her death, all unable to stop her. They looked up and saw a woman standing with her head out the window, tears starting to form in her eyes. Kayla’s mother stumbled back inside trying to hide herself from the view of everyone around her. Silence swept the outside of the place, no sound could be heard, even the reporters who had come hearing about Kayla were silent, no pictures were taken, no cameras flashed, no bird sang, no car moved, it was if the whole world had stood still on the count of Kayla’s death. Her hospital gown around her, her legs and arms spread out, both covered in bandages and her left wrist in a cast. Her bandages on both arms had blood stains as if stitches had been ripped open. It took at least 20 minutes before people regained their composure, police had come and taped off the area, trying to move people away. That was when the camera’s flashed and the news teams started filming for the evening news.
“Hi I’m Sandy Thorn and I am reporting from the Hillsgrade Hospital where moments ago Kayla Manning, daughter of Richard Manning one of the greatest lawyers the world has ever seen, committed suicide after jumping out her hospital room on the 8th floor. We have a confirmed report that says that she was in an accident today, which a car ran of the road and exploded causing the death of Luke Richmand. Further reports later.” A news reporter said from the 9 news team. Kayla’s mother unfolded the piece of paper she had sat on before causing it to crinkle and for her to notice it. She re-read the words she had been reading over and over for the past 20 minutes.
‘My Romeo is dead and now Juliet will follow.’
