Forget Our Name. The name doesn’t have much of a meaning. I suppose you could say that it came from the fact that Mitch was always changing the band name and none us could keep up. Finn suggested the official name by accident when he was so frustrated with Mitch that he screamed, “Just forget our name! We’ll just go nameless!” Forget Our Name sounded better than Nameless.
The band FON consisted of two guitarists, a drummer, a bassist, and a singer. Finn is the drummer. He’s also Irish, like really Irish. He has the accent and everything; it’s pretty interesting to listen to him say certain things. Mitch was the rhythm guitarist. He started the band but new he wasn’t good enough to be lead. He got his cousin Phil to play lead guitar. Phil is a guitar god; I won’t lie. Sometimes, I used to wonder why he was wasting his time with our crappy basement band. Collin was our bassist. He was quiet and generally just grunted in response to direct questions. You get used to it after a while, and learn how to decipher his grunts to translate them into actual words. Of course, I’m the singer. I’m the only girl and I hate the sound of my voice on a recording. My name is Amber.
FON was signed to Drive-Thru records after we played a showcase in downtown Memphis. I’m not sure what a representative was doing in Memphis, but it worked in our favor. We recorded an album and put it out in late July of last year. We’ve been on a few American tours and one European tour.
Right now? Right now we’re pulling into a venue in Michigan. Our van was right behind the one that belonged to The Maine. We’d met the boys of The Maine only a few weeks ago. We’d already joined this tour, but being openers The Maine and us became pretty close friends.
So here we are, in Michigan, climbing out of our vans to get a better look around the venue. All of the guys were laughing and joking as we entered the building. I was at the very back, just getting in the door, when I felt a pair of hands grab my hips. I sucked in a sharp breath as I felt his skin on mine. “Hey.” He whispered in my ear.
“Hi.” I squeaked out. His chuckle was light as he spun me around he leaned down so his face was only an inch from mine. I finally got bearings just in time to turn my face so his lips collided with my cheek.
“That’s cheating.” He mumbled against my skin.
“That’s life.” I laughed. I pulled away and began walking towards the stage. “I told you John, we’re not doing anything as long as you still have a girlfriend back home.”
He sighed, but shoved his hands in his pockets and walked up beside me. “What are you going to do when I actually break up with Melody and you don’t have this excuse to push me away anymore?” He asked, looking dejected.
I smiled and leaned up so my lips were lightly brushing his ear. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” I whispered. I let my lips run across his cheek lightly before giggling and skipping off to join the other guys.
Am I tease? I can’t deny it. But John O’Callaghan has that effect on people. And if I don’t give him a reason to, why would he want me?
