I'm adopted...Can it get any worse?
Chapter 30 : I'm adopted...Can it get any worse? [28]
I am so sorry this has taken, like, FOREVER to get out but like I went to Jon's Saturday and I didn't come back until today. I hope you like this one. Thanks xxxxxxxx
I sat in the bed next to Drew. He was covered in bandages and he was hooked up to a ventilator. The doctors weren’t sure whether he would pull through. They told me to never give up hope though, just in case he does. I sat there thinking about what happened a fortnight ago. I watched as Drew opened the parcel. There was a deafening bang and Drew fell to the floor. I ran over to him to see what had happened when I saw the blood. I heaved but nothing came out. I cried for him to wake but he didn’t. I got passers-by to dial an ambulance whilst neighbours brought out sterile bandages and gauzes for me to keep the wounds clean and infection-free. The ambulance took its sweet time getting here and when I got into the ambulance I had to explain what happened. As soon as we got to the hospital Drew was rushed to ER. A lone tear fell from my face. Who had done this and why? I thumped the bed.
“Come on!” I said to Drew’s lifeless body. “Pull through, for me, please!” I cried. Everyday for the past two weeks I sat there wanting Drew to wake and everything be ok but he never. Dryan had told me that this was not in the prophecy. He had gone in search for the woman who told the prophecy to get another reading to see if the prophecy could have changed. He hadn’t returned. Just then there was a knock at the door and I turned to see my mum and dad.
“How is he?” mum asked. I shook my head. “No change then,” I shook my head again. She sat down next to me and father opposite us.
“He will pull through. Don’t worry, I know he will,” Dad said. I looked at him as if to say yeah sure of course you know. I looked back at Drew and took his hand into mine. He never squeezed, he never twitched. It was as though he was just a shell now, nothing more.
“I am fed up now. I want to know if he is going to come out of it and if he is, will he be brain-dead, will he recognise me, will he be able to talk, and will there be a point to him being alive?” I asked not even looking at my parents. I never heard a reply. Just then the door opened and closed. I turned to see Dryan standing there.
“I have gotten a reading,” he said. “I want you to listen to me properly, and take everything in word by word,”
“He is meant to die isn’t he?” I asked.
“Wait,” Dryan said.
“No, just tell me, is he meant to die?” I snapped as my face hardened with anger.
“Yes,” Dryan said. I zoned out. I couldn’t here anything that Dryan was saying. I have lost two people now. I called in the nurse. I looked at my parents and nodded. They nodded, mum busting into tears.
“Just turn the machine off,” I said. “It isn’t worth keeping him alive anymore,” I stood and walked out. I had Drew’s car keys in my pocket. I had hardly taken any lessons but I didn’t care. I got a taxi back to my house and got into Drew’s car. I rode off and went off to the cliff. I wasn’t going to jump. I was going to see if I could connect to Cain and Natalia. I pulled up at the place where Drew and I had spent a lot of time before walking up to the cliff edge. It was cold and windy and nightfall had fallen. I started to meditate and hum. I felt my body go numb and I passed out.
I woke to find myself sitting on a log in a beautiful green garden. I saw two people talking not far from me. I got up and went over to them. They stopped taking and looked at me, bewildered.
“Aalaiya,” the guy said. I didn’t recognise who it was at first but then I got a little closer to see that Cain was sitting there. “Are you dead?”
“No, I am sitting on top of the cliff face meditating. I passed out and this is where it has sent me. I need answers Cain,”
“To what?” Cain asked me.
“The prophecy states that Drew and I are meant to be together forever. So why the hell did he get blown up to the point it changed the prophecy? I have had to pull the plug on his life support. I don’t know who has done this and I am scared that I am going to be next,” I said sitting on the log next to him.
“Do you know what the new prophecy is?” the girl asked, it was Natalia. I shook my head.
“I told Dryan to just tell me if Drew was meant to die and he said yeah and then I zoned out,” I said. Natalia got up and went off leaving me and Cain alone. I smiled at him feeling happy that I was able to see him again.
“I have missed you,” Cain said. I smiled and got a little closer to him. I rested my head against his shoulder. “I haven’t been able to get you out of my head,”
“I haven’t either,” I said. “I heard what you said and I wanted to tell you that I love you too,”
“I know,” Cain said. “I heard it,” I looked at him and smiled. Natalia appeared again and sat down next to us. Cain turned to her and she held up this manuscript.
“Drew was meant to die and you are meant to have your memory wiped of him and Cain,” she said. I looked at Cain, my heart plunging into my stomach.
“No,” I said. “Not Cain!”
