Our Love is Evergreen (Sequel to Angels in Hell) Chapter One Where could she be?!

Teren's POV

I woke up, groaning to the ache in my head. Growling, I straightened up and bumped my head against the something hard above me.

“Ow!” I yelled and I was startled to find that some weight was leaning on me. I looked down and was shocked to see Maple! She hadn't moved at all, even though I yelled and moved a lot. I slowly hunched back next to her and wrapped my arms around her. She was breathing! She had color in her cheeks and she was breathing in deeply, obviously sleeping.

She looked so beautiful... It had been a very long while since I had seen her. She looked so peaceful and I pushed my arms around her and picked her into my chest, even though the cage was small. As soon as she was in my lap, I nuzzled my nose into her hair. Her familiar smell aroused my nose, clogging up my head.

I immediately felt Maple tense up and I knew she was awake. I pulled back and looked at her blue eyes. She had tears in her eyes and she tried to pull back.

“Shh! What's wrong?” I said to her as she sobbed, pulling away. I held her, making her lean against my chest.

She seemed to realize something and pulled her head back gently and looked up at me.

“It's really you...” she whispered and I nodded, hugging her harder against me.

“I promise never to leave you again. Our love is evergreen,” I said and I realized the truth in my words. I looked down at her and her eyes sparkled with newfound tears.

Maple's POV

“Our love is evergreen,” he said to me and I realized that it was the romantic thing he ever said to me, even the most romantic thing I had heard. I smiled and I wrapped my arms around his chest, hugging him close to me. I settled my head above his heart, listening for the pounding of his heart. I pulled back immediately.

“I can't hear your heart!” I said to him and he chuckled, stifling his laughter.

“No, that's because I'm a vampire, I don't have a heartbeat.” I felt dumb as soon as I heard that thought and I rested my head back down. “But I can hear yours. It's fluttering like butterflies.”

I listened for my heartbeat and it was racing a mile a minute. I smiled and shook my head.

“Anyone across the room could hear my heartbeat,” I said and he chuckled.

“That's incorrect, Maple, we can't hear it, we can feel it,” a creepy voice called out and I froze. I looked to the far side of the room to see Laretta, Leo, and Lynda all standing within a few feet from the door.

“Lynda! I thought we told you to dispose of him, not to keep in with her!” Leo roared and Lynda, looking rather bored, looked at her fingernails.

“Since when do I listen to you, dear brother?” she asked in a bored tone and Laretta pounced on her.

“You do when it involves all of us in your cowardly mistake!” Laretta said, Lynda pushed up against the wall. Lynda cowered away from her, afraid, obviously.

“I didn't want to kill my boyfriend!” I looked up at Teren in confusion but he shook his head.

“Long story...” he whispered quietly beside my ear. I nodded, trusting him.

“I thought we told you that you weren’t allowed to get close to the enemy! He’s not going to live very long!” Laretta roared at Lynda and she cowered even farther, tears sprouting from her eyes. I was shocked and I looked up at Teren. He looked just as shocked as I did. “Foolish weakling,” Laretta murmured and thrust Lynda to the far side of the room, hitting her head against the wall. Lynda went into the darkness and I shivered. I had no idea Laretta was that strong…

Suddenly, Leo started to walk over here, looking at the pointy needle on the rolling side table. Scared, I cowered into Teren, shivering. Teren looked confused and looked at where both of us were looking. He saw the needle and put two and two together.

Teren didn’t move for a while, he allowed Leo to stalk closer and closer to the needle. When Leo was next to the needle and was holding it did Teren react. He covered me completely in his arms, making sure that no part of me was showing. We were invisible and I knew that Leo wasn’t paying complete attention to us.

Leo soon looked at the cage and his eyes showed anger, confusion, and worry. Where was his little experiment?

Laretta stalked over to Leo and swiped the needle from him. She pointed the needle into the cage, at me, and thrust.

Things started to go by so fast. Somehow, Teren got in the way of the needle aiming for me. I heard him scream and I looked at his face. His eyes looked down at me and his scowl turned into a crooked smile before he fell unconscious.

“NO!!” I yelled as Teren fell limp in my arms and our protective shield fell. Laretta looked smug and then she feigned sadness.

“Oh look, Leo, I killed Lynda’s boyfriend. Or, is it Maple’s?” her cold voice rang in my ears and I yelled.

“LARETTA!!”

“Laretta Golms, you are under arrest,” a familiar voice called out behind Leo.
