No Control (1) “Life’s Unexpected”
Chapter 1 : No Control (1) “Life’s Unexpected”
Emily goes to a Christian Private School, put there to learn the word of God. She becomes Best friends with Mike, who accidentally falls in love with her. What happens when he introduces Joe Jonas to Emily? Will She fall in love with him instead?
When I was young, life seemed blessed and thoughtless. My parents had a happy marriage… “had” being the keyword. They never found reasons to fight, especially in front of me. I’m not saying that they didn’t have arguments at all, they just tended to keep them quiet and to themselves. I guess they felt since I was going to be their only child they needed to provide me with as much nurturing and protection. My mother was not supposed to be able to have children, according to the doctors, but my mother didn’t want to adopt. She was determined to have a child of her own flesh and blood, even if the chances were high that she could die from becoming pregnant. So obviously, she got pregnant with me, and now here I am. When I was 5 years old, my parents sent me to Filmore Christian Private School even though they couldn‘t afford it. They had told the teachers that I was there, only because I needed to be shielded from the real world. They wanted me to become accustomed to the word of god, like they were, and didn’t want the real world to interfere with my learning’s.
At my newfound private school, I hadn’t made many friends. All the girls would pull my long brown hair and when it came time to color, they would steal my crayons. All I could do is sit and cry, but the teachers would never do anything about it. They would look over at me and scoff at what a baby I was being. I mean come on, I was only 5. This would happen everyday for 3 months until a new boy joined my Kindergarten class. He had brown hair and light blue eyes, just like me. The teachers had sat him at the tiny desk next to me and I noticed him as he colored his name tag.
“Hi!” I said in an upbeat voice. His face turned pink and he tried to hide his face under his arm.
“I’m Emily…” I was nervous, but I hadn’t made any friends and mom and dad would always ask me if I had made any every time they picked me up from school.
He stayed hidden. He was obviously shy so I stopped talking to him. When it was time to color, the same thing happened as it did everyday. Little Holly Jime stole my crayons once again. I began crying, but then the shy boy moved his hand to my desk with a blue crayon in it.
“Here, you can have mine.” he said and went back to coloring his own picture.
“Thank you, Mike.” I smiled and he looked confused.
“How do you know my name?” I eyed his uncovered nametag. “Oh…”
From that day forward Mike and I had become best friends. He was always at my family gatherings and I at his. We were now in our senior year of high school and still as great of friends as ever. We had been through a lot over the years. Well mainly me. My parents all of a sudden became big time Directors and were rarely ever home, but when they were all they would do is fight. My dad would always threaten to divorce my mom if she didn’t straighten herself up. My mom now was also a big party person. Before we became rich, she would only drink occasionally at home, but now that she has all the money in the world she would party until the break of dawn and it never failed to see her come home drunk. I had finally gotten a boyfriend, but that wasn’t good in the long run either. Jared, my boyfriend, hated Mike. He always says that Mike should go off and find another girl to follow around like a lost puppy. He hated the fact that I’d hung out with Mike more than him, so now he’s made all these rules that the only time I can hang out with him, is when Jared had other plans that he couldn’t get out of. I felt sorry for Mike though. I was practically his only friend and he mine, but now that I had Jared I had to push Mike away for a bit.
“Hey Sexy!” Jared called at me through the hall. I watched as my 6’2, blond haired, blue eyed boyfriend walked down the hall, every girls eyes examining his body as he passed them.
“Please don’t yell that at me?” I whispered in his ear in a form of a question. I didn’t want to tell him not to. I didn’t want him to lose his temper.
“Of course baby!” he smiled and latched his arm to mine. “So what do you want to eat for lunch?”
We continued to walk down the hallway, all female eyes glaring at me the whole way. I thought about what I wanted to eat, there wasn’t to many choices, since our school was closed campus.
“Any idea yet?” Jared’s tone sounded restless.
“I’m not really hungry. I’ll just eat when I go home.” Truth is I really was hungry, but eating in front of Jared made me feel funny. He always makes jokes about how heavy I am, but his tone doesn’t make them sound like Jokes at all.
We continued arm in arm to the lunch room, but were stopped by Mr. Lucas.
“You both know the rule about PDA.” he glared down at our latched arms. Our school was really strict about stuff like that.
“Sorry Mr. Lucas, I forgot. It was my fault.” I took the blame once again for Jared’s mistake. Mr. Lucas nodded at my apology and let us enter the lunch room. I looked around and noticed Mike sitting at a table by himself. About this time everyday Jared would see some of his football friends and quickly ask me if it was alright if he went to sit with them. I would always agree, but of course I was never invited to sit with the Football Players and Cheerleaders. My straight “A’s” and perfect 4.0 were to much for them, they considered me a geek, but they would never say that to my face. So as Jared would leave me, I took this opportunity to spend time with my best friend.
“Hey Mike!” I smiled at him and sat down.
“You’re not eating? Again?” he questioned noticing I had nothing but my purse with me.
“No, I’ll eat when I go home.” he shook his head at me and took a bite of the pizza on his plate.
“Are you sure you don’t want anything? I mean look at this Pizza, it’s so good!” he teased me by waving the pizza in front of my face. To get him to stop I quickly took a bite of his pizza. His face turned into one of shock.
“You could have gotten your own if you wanted one. You didn’t have to eat mine.” I laughed at him and punched his shoulder playfully.
“So what are your plans for after school?” he asked, his mouth full of pizza.
“I think Jared has a game, so I have to go to it. What about you?” I looked away quickly to see what Jared was doing. I noticed him sitting next to Holly at the popular table, flirting with her I might add. I watched as he quickly stuck a strand of her loose blond hair behind her ear and she smiled widely.
“Are you listening to me?” Mike said waving his hands in front of my face.
“Oh, uh… sorry. You were saying?” I provided my full attention to him now.
“I have to work. We have some big Rock band coming in today for a photo shoot. I’m not sure who it is yet, they won’t tell me names. I guess they want to keep the location private as well. I was going to see if you wanted to come with, but your busy so…” I quickly cut him off.
“You know I would totally come! But you also know how Jared is on game nights. He needs his lucky charm there or else he loses.” I sighed and rolled my eyes. I glanced once again back at Jared, who was still in the same position he was earlier.
“You know…” Mike began, but was cut off by the bell.
“Sorry Mike, I got to get to class. I’ll call you later okay. You can tell me all about this rock band you are taking photo’s of..” I quickly gave him a one handed hug and ran off to class.
Chemistry AP was boring and uneventful. The teacher explained things that I already knew, due to having read my whole Chemistry book over the summer. I didn’t have a boyfriend at that point so I had plenty of time on my hands, especially when Mike was always working. I watched the clock as I waited for class to end. I was completely famished now and couldn’t wait to get home and make some real food.
“Buzz…” the annoying speaker sounded and I rushed out of class. I didn’t have to worry about Jared waiting for me today, he had to go straight to the field after school ended. I was happy and ran to my car. I quickly turned the key in the ignition of my 2007 Volkswagen Jetta and sped out of the parking lot.
As I pulled into the driveway I noticed my dad’s car was home. Of course my mom’s wasn’t, this was probably about the time she went out to party. Pretty early, but none the less she did it. I fumbled with my keys to hit the lock button on my remote and then found my house key.
“Dad?” I yelled into the house, peaking around the corner of the door to see if he was in the living room. There was no sign of him. I quickly pulled my key out of the door and shut it, locking it behind me. I hung my purse on the coat rack by the door and walked up the stairs in front of me. I decided to stop looking for my dad, he could be anywhere in this house and it would take me hours to find him if I actually looked. I walked past my parents bedroom, planning on going straight to my room, but then I heard someone gasp for air in his room. My body all of a sudden tensed up. I was scared, not only for my life, but I was afraid that my dad could be a murderer. I slowly pushed open my parents cracked door and peaked in. There on the bed was my dad, thrusting. My face went white and I felt like puking as I saw my dad’s sweaty naked body. I must have made a noise because my dad turned around and looked straight at me. I don’t think he realized it was me at first, but then as he looked more carefully he gasped and covered himself in the comforter. He jumped away from the bed and I watched as a lady with red hair and great big green eyes looked at me.
“Oh hello.” she said and my dad flipped.
“Get dressed! Quickly! Get Out Of Here!” he yelled at the undressed female and he glanced back at me. I don’t know what was wrong with me, but I just stood there, in shock of what I just saw.
The woman quickly ran past me and I heard the front door slam shut.
“Emily! What are you doing here?” he asked confused and as if nothing had ever happened.
“Schools out. I called your name, you didn’t answer.” I felt tears forming in my eyes. I thought about my mom for a second. So yes she was an alcoholic, but she never cheated on my dad. She never did anything to deserve disrespect like this.
“Please don’t tell your mom.” he said to me.
“Are you joking dad? Why shouldn’t I tell mom. She deserves to know!” I yelled at him.
“It will only kill her inside. Do you want to kill your own mother?” He yelled back.
I shook my head back and forth.
“But, how could you do this to her?” I was confused and wanted answers. My parents had put me in this Private Christian School to learn about God’s ways, so I could be like them, and now I see that they don’t even follow the ways of God. My mom drinks excessively and my dad cheats. What complete hypocrites.
“Emily, you have to understand that people fall out of love. Your mom and I have come to an agreement. We have decided to not divorce so we stay true to God…” I quickly cut him off.
“And Cheating, isn’t that something God looks down upon?” My tone was furious.
“Yes, but Divorce is higher, as I was saying, we have come to an agreement. I am allowed to… umm… I don’t know how to say this.” his face contemplated which word his should use, but I was so angry I shouted out the appropriate word for the occasion.
“Fuck… You’re allowed to Fuck anyone you like.” I screamed.
“Watch your mouth young lady!” he glared at me.
“Well that’s the appropriate word. You don’t make love to these women, or have sex… you just F…”
“Don’t you dare say it again!” he yelled.
“Well if you and mom agreed on this then why don’t you want me to tell her?”
“Because, we agreed that I would never do it in this house, ever.”
“So you broke your promise?” I shook my head disappointed and turned on my heels to head to my room. He didn’t follow me, which I was grateful for. I had no idea what was going to happen now. I used to always respect my parents and their decisions, but now, they are worthless in my mind.
I laid on my bed, sobbing, knowing that I could never look at things the same again. There was already problems in my life that I had never told anyone and I have learned to get over them. Forgive and Forget is what God’s word has told me to do, but this… this would be even harder to follow his word for. I closed my eyes, allowing them to rest a bit before I had to get ready for Jared’s big football game. The second I closed my eyes my cell rang.
“Uggh!” I moaned and grabbed the phone off of my nightstand to look at the caller ID.
It was Mike. He was the only person I would actually answer the phone for right now.
“Hello?” I asked even though I knew it was him.
“Hey, so you wouldn’t believe who is here at this very moment!” he said excitedly over the receiver.
“Who…” I began but then there was a knock on my door. I ignored it at first, but then my door swung open and my dad stood there, eyes red and teary.
