Everyone wishes they had a summer love like ours.
3 months of pure summer. You haven’t experienced summer until you go away from all of it. Summer at my dad’s was supposed to be boring. How you got a love like that, you may ask. Honestly, I think it was my shoes. That was all joking aside. This summer went a little like this.
My suitcase was sitting on the door step, not that I really cared it was. I was too busy taking in the Chicago scene. It was far different from my house. I sneezed and attractively wiped my nose on my sleeve. I could care less of what others were thinking of me now. A guy around my age came from his house with a guitar. I shifted my own guitar case around my suit case. Mine looked better; I smiled knowing I won an unnamed challenge.
“Hey new girl.” I looked at this strange boy. He was fairly good looking, okay that was the biggest lie I’ve ever told. He was the best looking man in the whole world. That was an understatement of the world.
“Hey tall kid with a guitar.” He looked down at his guitar and smiled at me then came onto my lawn.
“William Eugene Beckett junior, can I get a name new girl?” He smiled another smile.
“Shanon. Cute shirt” He rolled his eyes, yet with a smile on his adorable face.
“Cute shoes. I mean not to sound totally gay, but they are freaking awesome.” I smirked at him.
“I will ignore the gay comment and take it as a compliment.” He smiled and raised his eyebrows.
“Well, I must go, but I will see you this summer” He took my hand and kissed it, before walking away. I sighed in pure bliss.
That was 4 years ago. I found out he was 2 years older. 18, leaving me at 16. Creepy? Not in my fucking book. Every summer I think of that first day, which leads to all of the other days. I was trying to keep my concentration on this band playing. Why was I doing this? I work for AP magazine. I was waiting for the last band to play. For as much as I love music, the main bands were the best in my opinion. The band got off and the main band came on. The lead singer was in the shadows. A voice came out from over our heads.
“With Fast times at Barrington high, Summer hair = Young forever.” I giggled at the title. It was a cute summer song. The words stuck in my brain. Like a clue to an unsolved puzzle. I turned my attention to the lead singer. He looked like a ghost of someone I knew in the past. My mind couldn’t put two and two together. I just jotted down notes and waited in the backstage area for them to finish so I could interview them. An hour later they showed up and all sat down. I put on my fake smile, I knew they were two. It was 1 in the morning and we were all about to pass out.
“So, I know you’re tired I just have one question… Summer hair, seemed like a big hit with the crowd, what is it about?” The lead singer stood up to the plate and was answering it.
“Actually it was about a girl I met when I was 18. She was a summer romance. She wouldn’t get out of my mind, and so I wrote this about one summer love.” I smiled and thanked them for letting me interview them. The lead singer caught up with me.
“I know this sounds gay, but I think you’re shoes are freakin’ awesome!” All of the puzzle fit. The final piece of the puzzle was done. I smiled at him.
“Well thanks Will.” He looked at me funny.
“How do you know my….” I cut him off.
“I’m just forever young.” His eyes widened. He just looked at me. I smiled and kissed his cheek.
“I did remember. But, I only have one thing to say to you.” He looked at me.
“My hair was not summery! It was nicely died thank you!” He just smiled and hugged me.
“You and me forever Shanon.” He kissed me on the lips, just like 4 years ago.
So this is the story of my summer love turning into my full love. We have never been any happier.
