How Charles Lost His Mind(part one)
Chapter 9 : How Charles Lost His Mind Part Four
The thousand years in hell had been quiet. Nothing of interest had happened besides the occasional jobs. Memnon had liked Charles so much he even asked him to kill an angel whom had supposedly fallen. Charles had made sure purgatory greeted the damn monster. But even sending an Angel to purgatory diddnt change the never ending boredom of this place.
Charles stalked up the hall way glaring at the floor.Nothing deterred his mind, he needed something to distract him. A vacation maybe. But he wonted to be able to move threw the shadows without the threat of Memnon hanging over his head. So who to ask other then Memnon himself?
The man was sitting in his thrown like always muttering to the servants and the guards. Charles never knew what he spoke about, even when the man was near a shadow he made sure Charles could not hear him.
"Master Memnon?" Charles coughed into his fist and bowed slightly.
Memnon looked over at Charles bordly then sighed and sat back in his chair "What is it Towness?"
"I was wondering if I could take a few days off. Iv been going num lately."
"Where are you going to go? Or is it just a free roam of the shadows?"
"Free roam would probably be best."Charles smiled
Memnon paused for a long moment as if thinking over the propotion befor smiling"Alright I guess you have earned it. Three days Charles. No more no Less."
Charles smile only grew"Starting now?"
"Starting now."
Charles nodded and sank into the floor as a blob of shadow that moved over to a corner and into the other shadow around it. He sat in the darkness for a moment just to figure out what he wonted to do first. For the first hour he wondered about the darkness looking in on different humans in the mortal realm. He hadent been there in so long, and everything was so different.
Tv’s and cars, lamps and stoves. He had never seen these things befor. It was all so new to him. He exited the shadows into a small ally in some distant town. The town was closer to hell then anything else on earth. More exiled demons lived here then he had ever seen along with other creatures like werewolf’s, lycan’s and vampires. The city was perfect for Charles vacation. He could do what ever he wonted here with out making to much of a disturbance.
He walked the street, going here and there, stealing this and that for his own amusement. But for the long run he knew nothing was going to change much of his life. First he when to a department store and stole some things to make his room less... boring. Then he went to an army store. The humans made the best weapons he had ever seen but guns were not his thing obviously. So he stole some knifes. With every trip he went back to his room and set everything up until there was not a blank spot in his room. And he sank back into the shadows and sat there, thinking.
Then he heard it. At first it was a soft whimper, but as he drew closer it be came silent wales. He coudlent tell what was making the sounds, but everything became clear when he found the source. A small boy no older then about seven sat in a tiny round room. Probably a tower of some sorts. He sat in the middle crying into his tiny hands. But he didn’t look like a human.
His hair was snow white and his eyes, from the little Charles could actually see threw the tears, were a bright yellow and slitted like a cats. Charles guess he was a werewolf, probably just a pup. But he couldn’t figure out why he was crying so hard.
Then the door opened and in came another little boy. The exact clone of the one that was crying it seemed. But they must have been twins.
"Chance!Stop your wailing and come to dinner!" The new boy snapped, not a hint of affection for his crying brother.
Chance whipped his eyes and looked over at his brother with a half smile"o-ok Auren...I-Ill be down in a little bit."
Auren rolled his eyes and left the room, slamming the wooden door behind him. Chance whipped his eyes again and stood, dusting off his shirt and pants then heading for the door a few minutes later, having forced himself to stop crying. Charles diddnt do anything, he just watched. In a way the kid reminded Charles of himself. Only this kid took his pain and faced it unlike what he had done. The kid had a hard life and that was apparent. Charles had had a hard life as well but diddnt notice until later. But the kids face shape was so sweet looking and tiny. Almost like Claire’s had been. And he was so innocent too.
Charles had to have him.
For every day in hell it was one month in the mortal realm. So for the first three human days Charles watched Chance closely and with a keen eye. He wonted to know everything he could about the kid.
Auren was Chance’s twin brother whom hated him more and more with each passing day. His father was the werewolf side while his mother was a human. The boy diddnt get any slack at school either. He was tormented where ever he went. Making it perfect for Charles to step into his life, as the hero of course. But he wasent sure when he should come in.
Then it happened. The father must have changed and gone psycho, for Chance had tried to save his brother but his brother wasent happy for it. He sent his younger twin running up the tower steps in a fit worse then the one Charles had found him in. There chance sat crying in the corner. But he wasent to lost in tears to notice when Charles moved in the shadows. The boy watched as the shadows sifted and quivered but thought nothing of it. That’s when Charles pulled his hand from the wall and placed it on the boys tiny shoulder.
"Why are you crying?" Not like he diddnt already know, but he wasent going to tell that to the boy. He kept his voice soft and calm, soothing.
Chance jumped and shirked, backing away from the wall against the other one "W-Who’s there?!"
Charles’ hand retreated, but then he pulled his whole body from the wall and stood befor Chance as a giant black blob. But then the darkness retreated and he smiled sweetly to the boy "My name is Charles. I heard you crying...why are you crying?"
Chance whimpered and whipped his eyes "I-I am not crying!"
"Oh don’t lie to me, I heard your wails all the way across town. Now will you tell me?"
Chance blinked and curled up "M-my brother hates me."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"He thinks mommy and daddy love me more then him."
Charles walked over to him and sat next to Chance, wrapping an arm around the tiny boy and pulling him close"Then forget about him. If he hurts you then he is not worth it."
"Ya but-"
"Hush..." Charles whipped away Chance’s tears and smiled then pulled him into his lap" Now why don’t you tell me more about yourself?" He was already In love with the small child befor him. He was so tiny and sweet looking. Innocent to a tee and so perfect looking. And his infatuation only grew with each passing moment.
Chance whimpered"My name is Chance Weathers. I am seven years old and I have a twin brother named Auren."
Charles nodded and smiled "I see" he ruffled the boys hair and chuckled.
"Charles...how did you come out of the shadow like that?"
"Call me Charlie. And its... a special ability I learnt. Ill teach it to you some day." He cooed.
Chance nodded and smiled"ok!" His tears were gone and he snuggled against Charles.
Charles smiled and sat back against the wall, holding the boy close to him and smiling to himself. He wouldent have the child yet. No he would wait till their bond was stronger befor he had what he wonted.
