As the vivid colors of morning stained the sky the hidden heroine lay gripped with pain as her brother tended her neglected and infected wounds. With each touch her thin exhausted frame laid almost lifeless but for a yell or twitch of agony. As she lay a sickly powder white rag doll thrown across the bed, her flowing ebony locks loose and straggly she heard a fierce pounding at the door. At this sound the siblings locked eyes. Seeing the panic in his sister’s eyes he rose calmly from his position beside her held his finger to lips gesturing for quiet, then silently walked toward the front room to get the door. As she pulled it back, he found himself staring into the eyes of a palace guard.
“Is there a problem sir” Asked the doctor blankly “I mustn’t be long as I’m with a client.”
“Her majesty is missing!” Declared the captain
“That’s awful.” Yelled the doctor in a false state of shock “I do hope she’s alright, when you find my sister please let me know”
“I’m going to need to search your home doctor” stated the captain
“I’ve already told you captain I have a sickly relative in the back, I can’t have her being disturbed or the kings best man sickened on my account.” The worried brother insisted.
“I’ll have to take the risk.” Continued the captain forcing the good doctor aside and storming towards the back room where our weakened royal hid.
After hearing the events in the other room she knew the captain would never recognize her in her weak and slovenly state. Working up what little strength she had she stumble and fumble into the room. It was in no way difficult to look like she felt. She slowly worked her way toward her brother who was silent with surprise. Just as he was about to couch her back to bed she fell limply at his feet. Catching on to the plan he played along. He knelt down beside her checking her over she rose angerly to his feet picking her up.
“Now look what you’ve done” he demanded of the captain “You must go immediately” he continued carrying her back to bed laughing under his breath at the guards hurried exit.
They would need to be more careful.
