I think I laughed for a whole complete minute without stopping. It was SO ridiculous. I mean, you would have laughed too if some green-haired guy told you that you had a son the same age as you. (Well, technically, I’m like a century, but still…)

“Kate, I don’t expect you to accept this. In fact it’s very normal for patients to think serious situations are comical to escape consequences.”

“Oh, please!” I said between guffaws. “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard since I woke up! And trust me, I’ve heard some pretty stupid things from you.”

“Yes, well…I suppose it does sound ridiculous from your point of view.”

I giggled. “Yeah. So no, really. What’s the truth?”

“I just told you the truth Kate. Your son is seventeen. His name is Kaelan Watson and I could point him out to you if you want. He attends a high school not too far from here.”

“You’re funny.” I said still smiling.

“Alright. I can see we are getting no where with this. So I shall see you in the morning when you’re feeling…more serious. But that’s the last time I’ll see you because Lucifer coming to pick you up at noon.”

My hysterics came to an abrupt stop. “What? That’s tomorrow?”

“Yes. I shall run a final test on you and then send your file to the rehab centre. Then you’re off on your own with Lucifer.”

“I can take care of myself. I don’t need HIM to help me!”

The doctor simply chuckled. “I’m afraid you’re quite far from independent at this time Miss Watson. I’m sure Lucifer will do a splendid job with offering you the best hospitality.”

“I’d rather stay in the hospitality of the HOSPITAL, thank you very much.”

“But he’s been so kind! How can you refuse?”

I didn’t say anything. I had a feeling he wasn’t going to believe a word I said.

The night came and went. I was left to eat a miserable breakfast. It wasn’t very enjoyable because a) I wasn’t very happy about seeing Lucifer and b) they served me this really weird jelly cereal type thing that tasted like cardboard. Apparently it’s called “Airfast Cereal!—the cereal that melts!” I bet the plasma TV would have been more appetizing.

Did I happen to mention that everyone here has weird names? Dr. Green Hair is actually Dr. Elthar Faiwynn. And the nurses that attend me are Aless Antin and Tycrus Nerker.

Um…yeah.

And Kaelan? I don’t think anyone’s had a name like that since King Arthur’s time. But whatever, I don’t have a seventeen year old son so it shouldn’t matter what his name is.

Yup…no seventeen year old sprawn.

I was looking out at the view when THE THING arrived. It was a very peaceful view so I was rather taken by surprise when his voice boomed through the room.

(above: a view from Kate’s window. Yes, I DID steal it from Star Wars. So sue me :P)

“Miss me?”

I jerked my head around to face him.

“You’re supposed to be DEAD.”

“Well that’s what would have happened if I hadn’t taken the elixir.”

“What elixir?”

“The bottle of gas in my bedroom? It was a very rare elixir. Too bad you never managed to notice it before, Christine—oh, sorry. It’s Kate, isn’t it?”

I glowered at him. There was nothing more I wanted to do than to lunge at him and wipe the smirk off his face. But that would be very very stupid.

“Don’t be a hater. I saved your life.”

“Why.” It wasn’t a question. It was a demand. He had to reply.

He smiled. “I have a thing for you.”

I blushed. Immediately, I muttered a whole bunch of obscenities. Why the hell do I keep blushing when he’s around??! You’re not supposed to blush in front of people you loathe are you??!

“It was fun playing along with you and pretending you were Christine Lovell.” He took small steps toward me until his face was inches away and I could feel the coldness coming off of him. “It’s so cute when you disguise yourself as someone when I know exactly what you’re up to.”

My lips quivered. “You knew all along.”

“I think you underestimate how much I know, Kiara.”
