“What are you reading.” My best friend Cara asks me.

“Twilight. It’s a really awesome book. It’s about a vampire and a girl falling in love.” I say to her knowing she won’t care.

“Ew, vampires are gross and creepy, and books suck. We should go to the mall! Let’s find us some cute boys!” She says while standing up.

“That would be fun, but I’m grounded, remember?”

“Oh yeah. You shouldn’t of failed that test. But hey, aren’t your parents gone till late tonight? You could sneak out for a little while.” She begs.

“I’m sorry but I really shouldn’t, what if one of them comes home early? I would be grounded for even longer. But you should go to the mall, I need to work on my homework anyways.” I lie since I just completed my homework while she was sitting there. It’s not that I don’t like Cara, she’s one of my best friends, it’s just that she gets annoying sometimes.

“Okay, why don’t you try to get rid of me a little harder, jeez!” She says in a joking way.

“Ha ha. Now go, have fun.”

“Alright. I will call you later. Bye.” She says while picking up her book bag from beside the hammock and walking away.

“Bye.” I call to her.

I stay outside a few hours after she’s left just enjoying the peacefulness of finally getting some time alone. It’s starting to get dark, I glance at my cell, it reads 9:00 pm. Well I guess I should get inside. As I begin to stand up I notice something on top of the fence on the left side of our yard. Casually, I look over to see it’s a face. I look away quickly and walk inside very fast, my heart about to jump out of my chest.

Once I’m inside I catch my breath, then peek through the curtains to see no one there. I must of scared them away when they realized I saw them. This is not only strange in the fact that someone was watching me, but also because that’s the old Anderson’s house. That house is thought to be haunted, and no one has lived there for at least 50 years. Only someone crazy would ever think to reside in that home.

I walk from the living room to the kitchen, then to everyone’s bedroom’s to find no one’s home yet. This is most likely because my mom had a dance class to teach tonight, my dad had some stupid business meeting and my sister had a date. I do enjoy my time alone so I can blare my music without getting yelled at, but not at night, it’s just creepy.

Once I’m in my room I immediately put on my favorite band of all time, Shinedown. While I sit on my bed and try and think of something to do, I finally decide on calling Amber to see it she will come over. Amber is one of my best friends, she’s always there for me and never fails to entertain. Also she just happens to be my cousin. I dial her number into my cell but before pushing ‘send’ I realize the battery bar is flashing. I sigh, then grab the house phone after turning my music down. It starts ringing.

“Hello?”

“Hey, it’s Angie I was wo-” before I can finish my sentence my room goes dark and the phone is silent. Great, a power outage, this is so not helping the fact that I hate being alone in the dark. I stumble over the end of my bed while I try to get to my nightstand where my flashlight, candles and lighter are.

Once I grab my flashlight I use it to see so I don’t burn my self while I light and place candles around my room. It doesn’t work too well, but it helps. While I walk over to my bed I notice something strange, the house across the street has almost all of it’s lights on. I make my way over to the window to notice that just about every house I can see has some lights on. Did my parents forget to pay the bill? I really doubt it, I mean not to be rude but we have plenty of money. Oh well, I’m sure it’s no big deal, I think trying to reassure myself. My stomach all of a sudden lets out an enormous growl reminding me I forgot to eat dinner.

Before exiting my room I grab my flashlight off of my bed. Slowly I creep into the hallway, letting my imagination take over I start to see things lurking in the dark, but I know there really is nothing there. After a fearful journey through my very dark house I arrive in the living room. Before turning into the kitchen I feel a cold breeze against my exposed arms and legs. I glance over to notice our french doors that lead to the backyard are wide open, and what I notice next practically stops my heart. On our tan carpet there lay enormous muddy footprints. My heart goes wild in my chest and I immediately feel myself go pale. I’m not alone in the house…
