Chapter 6

Gringotts Wizards’ Bank

Daze and her Aunt walked in silence to the bank until Aunt Jane decided to speak up. “Daze,” She said firmly. “I hope none of this stuff is getting to your head, don’t think that you have to be the way you’re expected to be.”

“As in what people think the Daughter of Darkness will act? No way am I giving in to that pressure. I’m happy the way I am and nothing is going to change that.” Daze stood up straighter and walked proudly down the street. Her Aunt smiled.

“Dumbledore got back to me last night by owl.” Daze looked up at her Aunt anxiously. “He said Professor Snape will be willing to give you private lessons at Hogwarts, if you’d like.”

“Great!” Daze smiled.

They both walked into the huge building. Daze looked around and noticed these ugly creatures working behind desks and handling papers.

“They’re goblins,” Aunt Jane replied to Daze as though she read her mind. “You always need to be careful around them; they’re very sly.” Aunt Jane walked over to the last counter as the goblin behind it looked up. He had crooked nose, dark black eyes, and was holding a letter with his long 5 inch looking fingernails.

“Yes?” He asked coolly as if they disturbed him from something important.

“We are here to make a withdrawal for Miss. Daze Derk.” Aunt Jane stated.

“Does Miss. Derk have her key?” He asked as he stared down at Daze. She felt as small as an ant as the goblin stared coolly into her eyes.

“I have it here,” Aunt Jane said as she dug into her pocket and pulled out a small bronze key. The goblin took his eyes off of Daze and stared at the key. Aunt Jane gave the key to the crooked nosed goblin and he jumped off his chair and waddled toward a large door with Aunt Jane and Daze following.

They all squeezed into a small cart and they were off. The breeze felt nice to Daze as they rolled down and halted to a stop next to an extremely large door. “Vault 716,” The goblin stated. “Hold this, please.” He said as he handed a lantern to Daze. She took it and held it up to the door. The goblin put the key in the hole then turned it. After that he slid his fingernail down a long line in the door and then the door opened a crack.

“Go ahead,” Aunt Jane said to Daze. “Take as much as you want.” Daze walked in and couldn’t believe her eyes. Thousands upon thousands of coins sat in the vault. It was so big of a pile that it hit the ceiling.

“A little too much,” Daze said. She was diffidently stunned. “I’m going to need a bigger pocket.”

Aunt Jane and Daze headed back to Diagon Ally and went to go get Daze’s books. After that they headed over to get her a new wand. “Why can’t I keep my old one?” Daze complained as she walked into the wand store.

“Haven’t you taken a look at your old one?” Her Aunt said. “It’s very old and sometimes it back fires on you! Remember that lesson on-“

“I know, Aunt Jane!” Daze rolled her eyes.

“Hello!” A friendly voice came from the corner of the store. “I’ve been waiting for you, come, come!” Daze felt a little creeped out but walked to the counter in the middle of the store. A man with a scruffy beard walked from the shadows then behind the counter. “New wand?” He asked politely. Daze just nodded. “Alright,” He said to himself as he walked toward a shelf full of wands then disappeared down the isle. Daze groaned she did not want to do this.

“Here we are,” She heard him call and he came out with a wand that was a slight pink color. “Unicorn hair, 12 inches.” He stated. Daze gave it a whirl but nothing happened.

“No…” He whispered then waddled out of sight again. He came back with a brown one. “Fairy wing, 11 inches.” He stated again. Daze waved it but then a crash sounded from behind the counter and the man looked down to find glass broken on the floor. “Don’t worry it happens all the time…” He said again then he went back to one of the shelves. He then came out with a dark brownish blackish one. “A drop of Darkness…made by the Demons… 12 inches…” He stood looking suspicious. Daze gave it whirl and a vase in the corner of the room slowly lifted up in to the air then was gently put back down. “I see…” He eyed Daze. “They said it would never find its owner… yet here you stand.” Daze looked at the wand that was in her hand then at her Aunt. She knew this couldn’t be good. “20 galleons,” He said. “It’s gone up a bit.”

Aunt Jane paid for the wand then quickly left the shop. “You have to go for your fitting,” Her Aunt said as they hurried into the store. “Then you can walk around freely.”

The room they walked into was small but looked nice. Aunt Jane talked to the woman behind the counter then Daze was taken to an even smaller room. “I’ll need to take your measurements,” She said as she took out a measurer and measured her height.

Daze heard the bell ring in the entrance and knew someone else entered. Sooner after a pale boy with blonde hair and bright blue eyes came walking in. He looked a bit grumpy but smiled at Daze as he stood up on the platform next to her.

“School?” The woman asked Daze.

“Oh, Hogwarts,” She replied. The woman nodded then strode off.

“Hogwarts? Never seen you around.” The boy said.

“It’ll be my first time,” Daze said. She didn’t look at the boy.

“I see,” He said as he turned around for the woman to take his measurements. The woman that was measuring Daze came back and measured her waist.

“Do you eat anything?” She whispered. “You’re as thin and tall as a stick.”

Daze blushed a bit considering a boy was in the room.

“Well, my name is Draco Malfoy,” He replied. “I’m in Slytherin House it’s only for Purebloods, you?”

“Pureblood,” Daze repeated. “And my name’s Daze Derk.” She could already tell she didn’t like him.

“You’re all finished.” The woman said. Daze jumped down and walked to the door.

“See you there; I hope you’re in Slytherin as well.” Draco called to Daze as she closed the door.

Soon Daze was happily walking around Diagon Ally by herself but was happy to things that didn’t involve school. First she went to the same candy shop she was at before and bought tons of chocolate. She thought maybe Hermione, Ginny and her can have a fun little stay-up-all-night-and-eat-chocolate party and talk about secret things.

After that she passed a quill shop and decided to get a couple of quills. While looking she saw some Mood Ink and thought it looked interesting so she bought a couple of those too.

About a hour later Daze’s hands were filled with bags and were having a hard time carrying them. “That’s it,” She whispered to herself. “I’m going back!” She was hurrying back to the candy shop when she noticed a joke shop. She liked playing pranks on people at times; maybe she could hit this one last shop before she returned to the Burrow.

She slowly opened the door and walked inside it was pretty crowded and hard to walk through the crowd. The she spotted Hermione in the corner looking at what looked to be a bag of Jogs and Jangs beans. “Hermione?” Daze said as she walked toward her.

“Oh, hey Daze,” She said.

“Never imagined you in a joke shop!” Daze smiled as she looked around the store. She saw a box of Bleeding Tarts, swiped it of the shelf, and read the label in the back.

CAUTION!!

BUY THE HEALING BAG FOR DISASTERS OF A PRANK BAG TO ASURE THE SAFTEY OF THE VICTIM OF THESE BLEEDING TARTS!!! MAY BE DANGEROUS!!!

“Nor you,” Hermione responded.

“Touché,” Daze smiled. “But you’d be surprised what I like to do.” Hermione put the bag down and turned to Daze.

“To tell you the truth I’m waiting for Ron and Harry. They’re looking for some sort of fake wand or something…”

“Cool, I should look into that,” Daze said.

“Good idea,” Daze heard someone say behind her. She turned around to see Fred and George. “They’re on sale too!” Harry and Ron walked over to the gang while eating what looked to be licorice but was the color blue then turned to red.

“There is only a couple left,” Ron said as he held up a fake wand. He waved it and confetti popped out of the end.

“That’s neat,” Daze said. “But by the time I go over there they are going to be all gone.”

“Yeah,” George said. “Probably, you should’ve seen how many people were over there trying to get there hands on one! The owner said they’re almost out of stock.”

“Aw man,” Daze frowned. “That’s a shame. But I think those Bleeding Tarts look interesting.”

“You like the prank stuff too?” Fred looked surprised.

“Well, it’s not like I spend all of my time on this kind of stuff but… you know, it’s fun at times.” Daze said.

“Daze, can I talk to you for a sec?” Fred asked. Before Daze could respond he pulled on her arm and took her outside. “We need to talk about something serious.”

(Me: Oh, what is he gonna say!)
