A rare day off and I have no clue what to do. We decided that we were going to stay in the town we were in last night before Joe got on the bus. I sighed and flipped through the magazine that I was looking at. I was completely bored. Everyone minus Chelsea was planning the wedding. I was looking at a bridal magazine and about to puke. Wedding planning for someone else’s wedding is not fun especially when you have to do with your ex-boyfriend and almost fiancĂ©. I heard a knock on the bus door and I got up and answered it. At the door was standing a gorgeous girl with light brown mildly wavy hair and gorgeous green eyes.
“Hello, I am Laura, how may I help you?” I asked the girl smiling. She looked oddly familiar but I have no clue where I had seen her from. She was in nice clothes and here I was in my pjs.
"Hey, I'm Hayden, it's nice to meet you. I'm looking for the boys, any idea where I can find them?" She asked smiling.
“By boys do you mean, Kevin, Joe and Nick? They are in the bus with me. We are wedding planning,” I said laughing. “Come on in.” I moved past to let her in.
"Ok, thanks?" Hayden said as she walked through the door of the tour bus.
I walked over to Joe and smacked his head, “You got company dumb butt.” He looked up from the guest list and smiled when his eyes landed on Hayden.
“Hey Hayden, what brings you to our humble bus?” Joe asked smiling. I rolled my eyes and picked up the bridal magazine again. I looked over at Joe and tried to hold back a laugh. It was obvious that he is attracted to her but he won’t act on that until he is a free man.
"Just here to let you know that the director agreed. So the movie's a go!" She said.
Joe jumped up and hugged her, “Sweet. Hear that guys we are going to be in a movie!” He started jumping up and down like a little kid after he broke the hug.
I turned to Hayden, “I hope you know what you are getting yourself into. Joe is a handful. Make sure you keep him away from candy. I know from firsthand experience what he can be like and it isn’t pretty.”
Hayden smiled to herself and rolled his eyes. "Don't worry, I've got an eight year old brother."
“I grew up with three brothers and I still don’t get those three. They are cool though. Joe and I fight a lot lately but that has more to do with old things. So, do you want to stay and hang out? Please stay. I don’t want to plan anymore. Marissa is going to be the death of me. If I have to look at another bridal magazine I will die.” I laughed. “Plus, Marissa and Kev are getting ready to leave to go take care of wedding things and that leaves me alone with two couples. I will be the fifth wheel.”
"No problem. I know how you feel. I can't remember the last time I was in a relationship. I think I've got some time." Hayden said sitting down.
“Last time I was in a relationship was almost three months ago and now I am touring with him and his bitch of a girlfriend,” I said whispering the last part so Joe can’t hear. Joe looked at me and smiled. I shook my head. “And now we are trying to be friends.”
"Joe, huh? Well, I give you credit for staying on the tour. I would’ve said no. But hey, look on the bright side, at least you won't have wrinkles from frowning so much. I mean, look at this girlfriend.. she's gunna look like she's eighty at age twenty-one" She said laughing.
“I didn’t have a chance too. My band mates didn’t tell me who we were touring with until l last minute. I didn’t know until I walked into the bus and saw the three of them. It was too late to pull out. I like you. Not many people see what I see in her,” I said laughing. “I am a natural blond and I don’t like blonds who give being blond a bad name.”
She looked over at Joe’s girlfriend and laughed. "I'm a firm believer in the, blondes aren't dumb movement. It's people like her who make people think they are..."
I sighed, “And to think if he had actually listened to me that day then we wouldn’t be where we are now. All of this because of a misunderstanding. Kevin and Nick don’t like her.”
"Can't say I blame them. I don't even know her and I don't like her,” Hayden said looking over at Chelsea.
“I don’t like her either and it has nothing do with her being with Joe as she would like to think. At first it was but then she started rubbing me the wrong way. It is like she lives in taunting me that she has Joe and I don’t,” I said sighing. “She is lucky I haven’t done anything to her yet.” I looked over at Chelsea to see her leaning against Joe smiling at me.
Hayden rolled her eyes and looked back over at me. "She's just flaunting him. It's just annoying. Look at Joe's facial expressions, he's TOTALLY uncomfortable. Just ride out her annoyingness. I have a feel she won't be around for much longer."
“Yes, and then he will find someone else,” I said sighing. “He has made it clear that he wants nothing to do with me like that again. That we are over and he has moved on. The only problem with that is I am still madly in love with him.”
"Well, have you considered moving on? I mean, their song is true. When you love someone and they break your heart, don't give up on love, and have faith restart. You can get through this, Laura. You're a very pretty girl. You just need to find a guy who will treat you right." She smiled at me.
I smiled, “I am trying too but it is hard to move on when you have had one of the best guys out there. My brother Drew liked him and he doesn’t like any male that tries to date me. So, the fact that he likes Joe is a big thing. I found someone that I think is cute but Joe said that he is a player. I don’t know what to do. Part of me wants to say screw what Joe says and date him but the other half still trusts Joe’s judgment.”
"Well, it's always hard jumping into a new relationship after a messy break-up. If you and Joe were best friends, there's a possibility he's trying to protect you. On the other hand, he could just not want anyone else to have you because he knows he can't. I don't know Joe well enough to tell, but if I were you, I'd go with my gut feeling." She said smiling.
“I never thought about him just saying that because he doesn’t want someone else to have me. I mean, he is the one drilling it into me that he is over me and that I need to get over him because we are never going to happen again,” I said sighing. “I never understood how he can go from wanting to marry me to not having any feelings for me two months later.”
Her eyes suddenly went wide. "Did you just say Joe wanted to marry you?! WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED?!"
I sighed and took her arm and lead her out of the bus and then sat down on the bench outside of it, “We went on a romantic date for Valentine’s Day and we were ice skating. He fell and I skated over to him and asked him if he was ok and then helped him up. When he was getting up he fell down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was overrun with emotions. I cried and shook my head trying to clear my thoughts and he thought I didn’t want to marry him and wouldn’t listen to me as I tried to explain to him that I did in fact want to marry him. He told me that it was best we went our own ways and this is where we are now. “
"Um, wow." She acted as if she really didn't know how to respond to that. "So basically, you're both heartbroken because Joe's too stubborn to listen to anyone except his own thoughts?”
I nodded, “Pretty much. I was shocked that he asked was all. I had every intent on saying yes. I love him. And now he is going to find someone else to marry. He likes you. I can tell.”
Hayden shook her head, "Me? Highly doubt that. I'm nothing special. Besides, I can see it in his eyes. He's just jumping from girl to girl because he's trying to figure out what to do with himself."
“Well, I was nothing special until I meet him. He is the reason I have a career now. Joe is very easy to read. He likes you. I can tell,” I said laughing. “And what makes you think he is trying to figure out what to do with himself? He is a major pop star or rock star whatever you see him as. He had tons to do with himself.”
She smiled, "I don't think you needed Joe to get you a career. I mean, he helped, but you could've done it on your own. Well, like you said. Joe's pretty easy to read. He has NO IDEA what to do now that you're not in his life. I'm thinking, he went to you with everything. Like, when he didn't know what to do, he came to you. And now that you're gone, he has no one to turn to, nowhere to go. I guess you can say he's lost."
“Wow, I never realized that I had a big impact on his life. He did tell me things that he didn’t tell his brothers. We had a very open relationship. We rarely fought. We were in love. Joe is a great guy, he will figure out what is his next step. Just like I have to do, I never thought that I wouldn’t have Joe to go to but now I don’t,” I took a deep breath. “I never thought I would even meet him let alone date him. As for the career thing, I never thought I was good. Joe and his brothers are the ones that showed me that I was.”
"Well, life can through you curve balls, but it's how you react to them that counts. Sweetie, if you can pull through this, you can get through just about anything,” Hayden said smiling at me.
I laughed, “I haven’t had someone to talk all of this out with before. I could with Aly and Marissa but they are dating Kevin and Nick, Marissa is marrying Kev. I figured they would end up telling them and then it would get back to Joe. I don’t know if I want him to know that I feel lost without him in my life. I dyed my hair because I wanted to get rid of another reminder of him. Joe told me that he loved my hair. That I shouldn’t change it at all, so when we ended it, I dyed it. “
She laughed, "Hmmm, well I guess that's a sense of closure… in a weird way."
“Yea, it didn’t help much. I have no clue what to do with the pictures. I want to get rid of them but I like most of them,” I said laughing. “I will be fine. I am going to give dating a shot. Who knows maybe I will find mister right.”
"That's the spirit, Laura! You'll never know if you don't try," Hayden said giving me a reassuring smile.
I laughed, “I am glad you stayed. I might have end up smacking Barbie in there. As much as I love Aly and Nick, I just can’t handle being alone with the four of them. The evil witch throwing herself on Joe and Aly and Nick are in their own world. God, couples suck. Thank you so much for staying. So, what movie is Joe so happy about?”
"I know what you mean. And it's just a little movie. Pop star takes a girl's iphone instead of his... drama, and they end of falling for each other," She explained.
“Joe’s the pop star and you are the girl?” I asked smiling. “I am still trying to figure out where I know you from.”
"You hit the nail on the head. His brothers are actually gunna be in a band with him… and oh? Uh, I am an actress," Hayden said shrugging.
I looked at her and smiled, “Harrison Ford and Johnny Depp, Joe and the boys dragged us to the movie, well not really. As soon as Joe said Johnny I was there.”
"OH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN! I felt like such a little girl, I was so star struck around him. I mean, how can you not be?! He's so gorgeous it's ridiculous."
“For what it is worth, I thought you were amazing. Johnny is a hunk. I would so love to meet him,” I said smiling. “I have loved him since my mom showed me him in Jump 21. She had old pictures from magazines lying around. Then I watched Edward Scissorhands. He is so talented and hot. Not many guys are like that. Some are just hot and not so talented.”
"Thanks, I appreciate it. And I know what you mean. Zac Efron is a prime example. That's why I came after Joe. They tried to cast Efron, but I refused."
“Eww…Zac is hot but not so good and he is dating Vanessa. It is almost as bad as when Nick dated Miley. Gross, but Aly fixed him. It was dark times when he dated her. I warn you Joe loves to prank people,” I said laughing. “He is a big kid. Sometimes I wonder who is the kid in the family, Frankie or him.”
"He should be fun to have around then," Hayden said as she smiled. "It's not a real movie unless someone's pulling pranks."
“True…I guess. I have never been on a set so I wouldn’t know,” I said smiling. “Must be fun though, filming movies. Touring can be fun but then you have off days and you have nothing to do. That is why I was dragged into planning today and the fact that Aly and I are Maid of Honors and then Nick and Joe are Best Men doesn’t help.”
"Life as an actress isn't all it's glammed up to be. Sure, it's fun.. but it gets annoying. Take after take of the same material.. trust me. You get bored fast. And wow. I can't imagine having to handle my career AND helping plan a wedding."
“I hate the paps and the tabloids. The other day, my stylist had a magazine and she showed it to me. They are still trying to figure out what happened between Joe and me. I don’t think it is anyone’s business, really. That is one of the things I wish I didn’t have to deal with,” I said sighing. “It is hard. Marissa is a pro at multitasking though and seeing how I am on a writing streak, she doesn’t have to deal with writing songs. I write when my emotions are on fringe and everything with Joe has my emotions running high making writing so much easier.”
"Well, at least this is all helping you get ahead in your career."
“I can imagine what our fans with think of hateful break up songs,” I said laughing. “Though some of them aren’t really hateful. Well not as hateful as Drop Dead on our first CD. I don’t know if the record company will like the new songs.”
"Hey, it's really not the record companies decision. I mean, sure they make the Cd, but this music is supposed to be a part of you. Don't let them say no."
“True, I love writing. It helps me so much. I don’t like listening to my own music though. After the first opening for the Jonas Brothers, it was weird, getting used to people asking for autographs. Now it is like an everyday thing. I miss the small life at times,” I said smiling. “I am thinking that you will see me on set because Marissa is going to want to visit Kevin and Aly will want to visit Nick and they won’t let me stay home alone, so I will be dragged on set but I can visit you. Now I have someone to visit. Because God knows I wouldn’t visit Joe just yet. “
"Ha-ha, no worries. I'm looking forward to it. You're a really cool person, and I think we’re gunna be good friends."
“And when Joe hits on you, I can tell you that I was right,” I said laughing.
"Please, I so won't let that happen."
“You won’t let a grown boy, who can make up his own mind, hit on you?” I asked biting back my laughter.
"Its kind of a mind game. I mean, right now, Joe's totally irked because of the mixed signals I've been sending him. I'm just trying to feel him out, ya know? I don't think he's someone I want to get involved with. If I keep him guessing, he won't hit on me."
“Like asking for Nick’s number after you told him you like older men?” I asked smiling. “I heard him complaining this morning to Nick and Kevin about it. Nick had fun with that one.”
"I bet he did. I'll have to talk to Nick about that one."
“Kev did too. Joe wasn’t happy. He said it made no sense to him,” I said shaking my head. “That is when I butted in and said that a lot of things don’t make sense to him.”
"Well, you do have a point. And if I've got Nick and Kevin on my side, I think I work this one for a while,"
“Just don’t mess with his heart. I know that he broke mine but I still care for him and I don’t want to see him hurt. Mess with his mind all you want but not his heart,” I said smiling. “Joe needs a little mind games though. It is going to be fun to watch him complain and squirm.”
"I won't break his heart, he's built too many walls. But you're absolutely right. This is going to be fun,"
“He has built walls? How do you know this?” I asked biting my lip. “And he won’t like that we are getting along so well. It will drive him insane because he will want to know what we talked about and I am not going to tell him a thing.”
"It's so completely obvious, Laura! He's oblivious to everything that's going around him. Here you are, about to walk out of his life, and he's still standing there. He doesn't know which way to go in, because he won't listen to his heart. I think he's, afraid."
“Afraid of what? I have never seen Joe afraid of anything,” I said biting my lip. Maybe something was going on with Joe that I couldn’t see because I didn’t want to see it.
"Don't you see, Laur? He's afraid to put his heart out there. He doesn't want it to get broken again."
I felt the tears well up, “I didn’t mean for his heart to be broken.”
"I know you didn't mean it, but it happened. It's really not your fault. It's more of his own, but he won't realize that."
“I still feel bad, knowing that he is hurting and I can’t do anything about it. I am not used to not being able to help him,” I said sighing. “If he is hurting then why is he telling me to move on?”
"I can't say for sure, but I think if you move on, he'll know it's truly over. Then he'll be able to move on. He's searching for closure."
“But I don’t think I will be able to move on. I mean, without him, I feel like I am incomplete. Like he completed me,” I said sighing. “I truly feel like a piece of me is missing.”
"That's pretty much the definition of being broken. I wish I could help, sweetie, but I can't say or do much more." I said as I got up and walked back into the bus.
I got up and followed her into the bus, “Thanks for the help though.” I looked at Joe who looked at me for help getting Chelsea to back off so he can do something. I rolled my eyes. “So, Joe looking forward to the movie?”
He nodded, “Hayden, when does filming start?”
"Next week actually. I know it’s kind of sudden."
“Hey, no big deal. I am sure we can stop touring for awhile. The girls can finish up the tour without us,” Joe said smiling at me. I rolled my eyes.
“Oh yes, like the thousands of fans at these venues show up for us. They show up for you dumb butt but I am sure Hollywood Records would understand a once in a life time shot for a movie role,” I said rolling my eyes again.
"Hey, hey. No fighting. Don't make me keep you two on different sides of the bus. And I hope you can get time off, I'm looking forward to this." Hayden looked back at me and winked. She walked over to Joe and ran her fingers through his hair. "It's going to be so fun working with you." We could see his girlfriend's nostrils flaring.
Joe jumped at Hayden’s touch causing me to giggle. Nick smiled and looked at Hayden, “Their fighting is normally worse than this. They normally are yelling at each other and I think Laura has said some cuss words here and there. Oh, I am Nick by the way.”
Hayden looked over at Nick and flashed him a winning smile. She shoved Joe out of the way and walked over to shake his hand. "I must say, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm a big fan of yours. Like your old solo album, amazing! I downloaded it off limewire."
Aly looked like she was about to jump Hayden but I sent her a look that said it was all just a mind game with Joe. I looked over at Joe who was huffing. I let out a giggle as Nick blushed, “Thanks. I love the movie you are in with Ford and Depp. You are amazing in it.”
"Awe, thanks Nick! It's so nice to be appreciated for my hard work. You must know the feeling. I mean, you're like the glueof this group,” Hayden said causing Nick to blush and Joe to roll his eyes.
“Yea, Kevin and Joe would kill each other without me,” He said laughing. I laughed knowing that it was true. “But we all play a big part in the band. I maybe Mr. President but everyone else had their role too.”
"Very true. I'm surprised you don't want to kill yourself with all you deal with." I said as I giggled. "Well, I gotta hit the road, but I'll be sure to vote for you, Mr. Prez."
“Yea, we gotta hit the road soon too. We have a new city to be in by tomorrow evening. It was nice meeting you,” Nick said standing up. Joe stood up with a frown.
“Yea, you should stop by again. Come to one of our shows again,” Joe said smiling. I rolled my eyes.
"I think I can manage that. If I get to see little Nicky, and Laura over here, I'm totally there."
Joe frowned and I smiled then turned to Hayden, “Totally. You could come before the show and we could hang out backstage and stuff and you can watch from the side of the stage. Just give me a call and let me know so I can tell the back stage guards.” I wrote down my number on a piece of paper and handed it to her.
"Sounds good to me. I think you'll be seeing a lot more of me in the near future." Hayden said as she grabbed the slip of paper, winked and walked off the bus.
I sat down and laughed. Joe glared and walked into the back. I am starting to like my days off, “Off to another town.” Nick nodded as Kevin and Marissa walked back in. I rolled my eyes and we were off.
