My Family Has A Dirty Little Secret [The characters]
Chapter 22 : My Family Has A Dirty Little Secret [Surprises and Rumors]
That night after everyone had pretty much gone to bed I snuck into Jeremy's room. I figured no one could really get upset about it since the damage was done. "Jeremy, we have to talk," I said. "Okay..." "Do you really want this thing?" I asked. "Of course I do. Why?" "Because. I mean, we're still in high school and we've got college to think about," I replied. "I really am glad it happened. I meant that." "I just don't know if now is really the best time to have a kid..." "Well, we're not getting rid of it. We're just not." How could I possibly get rid of it? I love kids. And for once in his life Jeremy's putting his foot down.
I sighed and buried my face in my hands. "We can do this," Jeremy said. "It's a baby. I thought you'd be excited." "I would be ecstatic if I wasn't seventeen and unmarried!" I said. Jeremy smiled. He got down on the floor and shifted his weight onto one knee. "What are you doing?" He pulled a ring, no box, just a ring from his pocket. "Will you marry me?" he asked. My jaw dropped and I literally couldn't breathe.
He just stared up at me and I could tell he was getting nervous. "Yes..." I choked. He smiled and relaxed and slipped the ring on my finger. I couldn't speak or think or do anything. Jeremy kissed me and all I could do was stare at the shiny round diamond on the silver band. I can't believe I'm engaged. The next morning everyone was in the kitchen for breakfast and when I went to grab the cereal Ben put his hand on my arm and stopped me from pulling back. "What's this?"
"Oh uh..." "Did Jeremy give that to you?" he asked. I nodded. "Yeah..." "Did he..." "He asked me to marry him, Ben. Yes. And I said yes." "Jesus," Dean whispered. None of my brothers seemed to be happy. Gavin was just really quiet, which is unusual. "What?" I asked. "You're seventeen, Frankie!" Ben said. "I know that. I never said we planned on getting married tomorrow! People get engaged everyday and some stay that way for several years before actually getting married," I said. "Most of those people aren't seventeen and PREGNANT!" Dean said.
I rolled my eyes. "You know, Dean. I love you like a fat kid loves cake but you need to chill. I'm preggers and there's nothing you can do about it. I didn't ask to get pregnant but I did so get over it. Okay? Maybe you need to talk to Liz!" I said. He smirked. "I kind of already am..." Everyone looked at him. "Are you serious?" I asked. "Yeah, we've got a date tomorrow night..." I smiled. "Good job," I said. He smiled. "Thank you."
Everyone knew about me and Jeremy being engaged by lunch time that day. And someone had said I was pregnant. The only people I had told were Jeremy, my family, and Ms. Arden. Sarah Felman strolled over and picked up my hand. "Gorgeous ring!" she said. Then she gave me a devilish smirk. "Heard about the baby. Good luck with that," she said. I looked at Gavin. "I swear I didn't tell anyone," he said. "Maybe Sarah doesn't know and she thinks she's spreading a vicious rumor about you," he said.
I shrugged. What do I care? People are going to find out when I start showing anyway. If they even see me since it'll be well after graduation before that happens. "So, when are we going wedding planner shopping?" Gavin said with a laugh. "I don't need to pay one. I've got two free ones waiting at home," I said. We all laughed a little. "Brooke told me last night that I wasn't allowed to get married until she got skinny again because she doesn't want to look fat in her dress."
"Are you actually going to wear a dress?" Gavin asked. "Well, yeah," I said. "Maybe not a white one..." They laughed. "Maybe like an off-white or cream." After school ended I went with Ben and Brooke to their doctor's appointment. They had decided to keep the sex of the babies a surprise. They didn't even know what they were but they had names picked out for two girls, two boys, and one of each.
"Pretty soon you'll have to go through all this," Brooke said. The doctor looked over at me. "You're pregnant, too?" she asked. I nodded. She continued working on Brooke. A few minutes later she printed the picture of the ultrasound and took off her gloves. "Well, Mrs. Reynolds. You're all done here." "Thanks, Dr. Owens." She smiled and Ben helped Brooke up. "See you in a few weeks and we'll have those babies!"
We left the doctor's office. I was excited. For Brooke and Ben. I've been waiting ages for them to have a baby and now they're having two! I just never expected I'd be expecting. We got home and I did my homework. "Frank..." "Yeah?" "Can you help me with this? I can't figure it out," Gavin said, pointing to a math problem. I looked at it and solved it in my head in like a minute. "Wow, thanks," Gavin said. "No problem."
I sighed and stared at my paper. I am graduating in one week. Just one. Why are they assigning me homework? Lame ass school system. I finished my homework just in time for dinner. Brooke smiled and put her hand on her stomach. Everyone else did too. "Aw! They're playing!" I said. She moved closer to where my belly and hers touched. I smiled. "Ha! They can play with my little fetus!" "Ew! That is such a sick word!" Gavin said. I laughed.
