Rage {Chapter 1: Hateful}

I didnt see Rage for two more days. Finally, he stopped by to see if the wounds on my neck had healed.

"It's better already?" He was as shocked as I was to learn that the marks on my neck had completely dissapeared. We were sitting in my living room, me on the couch, Rage in the chair next to me.

"Yeah. It started to heal right after it happened. It's really weird." He sat back in the chair and I could tell he was thinking.

"That must mean he didn't intend to hurt you too badly or it would've taken weeks to heal."

That was surprising. It sure didnt seem like Alec hadn't wanted to hurt me.

I looked up at Rage and saw that he had a set of scars on his neck like mine.

"Hey what happened to you!" I pointed to his neck.

"Nothing."

"Do you seriously think I'm that stupid? I know what happened, but I wanna know how."

"Well thats too bad, because it doesnt concern you."

"Why cant you just tell me?"

He didnt say anything, but I saw that he had his fist clenched on the arm of the chair.

"Why are you so mad all of a sudden?" He looked at me, surprised at first, and then he jumped out of his chair and left.

That really bugged me. Who attacked him? Why didnt he trust me enough to tell me? My stomach twisted as I thought about Ariana hurting him like that. Then I heard a knock at the door and went to see who it was.

I opened the door and saw a boy and girl that were probably around 12 or 13. The boy spoke up first, "Some guy over there wants to talk to you." They both stared at me with blank eyes to see my reaction. Without another word they left.

I slammed the door shut. NO freakin way was I walking out alone again. I plopped down on the couch with my phone and started calling my family and friends. I hung up the phone when I was done and heard another knock at the door. It was the boy and girl again, but this time, they were jumpy and looked terrified.

"You-have-to, go over there, quick! Its an emergency!"

"What are you talking about, what kind of emergency?"

"Somebody's hurt or something, you have to go!" he grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the house. He pointed down the sidewalk and then him and the girl ran the opposite way. I tried to figure out why they would come get me if someone was hurt. Shouldnt they call an ambulance?

My heart stopped as I thought of Rage. What if he was hurt? I was so torn, I didnt want to fall into a trap, but I was too afraid that Rage was hurt. I quietly walked down the sidewalk. After about 5 minutes of walking, I found a sidewalkd that went off of the one I was. It branched off between two buildings and I saw that familiar deep blonde hair at the other end.

I ran down the sidewalk as fast as I could. Rage was huddled over and I almost puked when I saw that there was blood all over his shirt and hand. I put my hand on his shoulder and he looked up.

"What happened to you?" He just shook his head, looking at anything but me. I saw him look over my shoulder at something behind me, and the next thing I new I was laying with my back in the dirt. I quickly sat up. Rage was standing less than two feet away from me, fighting with someone that had appeared out of nowhere. I screamed when I saw Rage fall to the ground again.

Alec looked down at me and I couldnt think of anything to do. I crawled over to Rage and put my arm around his shoulder, not taking my eyes off Alec.

"What did you do to him! STAY AWAY FROM ME!" He had taken a step closer and I put myself farther in front of Rage. He laughed, "I didnt do that to him. He was like that when I got here." I looked at Rage and then back at Alec. I hurridly tried to help Rage up as he shuddered.

I jumped suddenly as Ariana bent down on the other side of Rage and put her hand on his shoulder. Her deep jade eyes seemed amused. He looked up at her and pushed her hand away.

"What happened to him?"

"I dont know, I just found him like this. You have to help me, we have to get him to a hospital-"

She just smiled calmly at me. She started running her fingers down Rage's jawline.

"Heh. Jaydin, look what you did this time." I looked up at her. Jaydin? That must be his real name. What did she mean what did he do? He was hurt, he didnt do anything!

"What are you talking about, he didnt do anything!" She kissed Rage lightly on the ear and stood up.

"Stand up. Don't look so pathetic." I fell back on my butt as Rage stood up. What? Why was he listening to her? I realized I must have been crying as a breeze threw my hair back and I could feel the cold streaks on my face. Alec grabbed both my arms and stood me up. I tried to get over to Rage but he held me back. Ariana stepped closer to Rage and put her hand on his shoulder. She smiled at me demonicly, her eyes cold and cruel.

"Jaydin? What does this girl mean to you?" My heart stopped. I knew I was being silly, hoping that he would say the three words I wanted to hear. I was terrified of what else he could say.

"Nothing."

Ariana laid her head against his shoulder and he put his head on hers.

"Are you sure? You were spending a lot of your time with her. She means absolutely nothing to you?" She sounded like she was talking to a servant that would always say what she wanted. They were talking like they were teasing me, like they were rubbing something in.

"Yes. She means nothing at all to me. I love you, only you." He put his arms around her and I felt more tears.

"Then if she doesnt matter, I'm sure you wouldn't mind if we kill her?" I forgot to breathe. Kill me? Oh no, oh no oh no. They were going to kill me. I started fighting against Alec like mad.

"I dont mind."

The whole time Rage and Ariana were talking, he always answered in a dreamy, far away kind of voice.

"Ok. Then say goodbye." He didnt even look up at me, just continued holding Ariana with his eyes closed like he was in a dream.

"Goodbye."

"NO!" I started screaming as Alec started dragging me away. "LET ME GO! NO! YOU CANT! LET GO!" I decided then that I could say something that could either make dying a lot harder, or like a storybook, save my life.

"RAGE! I LOVE YOU!"

Alec let go of me and I fell on my hands and knees. I looked up, my eyes blurry from the leftover tears. I heard Alec walking up to get me again and I knew it was over. It didnt change anything. I took one last look at Rage and saw that he had frozen. His eyes were open in a look of shock. Suddenly he seemed to come to life again. He grabbed Ariana by the throat and pushed her away from him.

"ARIANA!" He snarled and pulled a dagger out of his pocket. Alec dropped me and started running back to help Ariana.

"No! Ariana kill him! Ariana!"

I ran towards him and jumped on his back. He flipped me over and I took him with me. We tumbled through the dirt as I fought with every ounce of strength and adrenaline I had. He yelled and followed his eyes back to Rage and Ariana.

"No! Ariana, no!"

Rage was standing in front of Ariana, the dagger straight through her chest. She screamed and reached out to him as she fell back. I saw her swipe her hand down his face and then she was gone.

Like when that little boy had been shot, thick black smoke spiraled up in the air. Rage fell to his knees and Alec pushed me away to crawl over to the smoking pile of ashes. He was sobbing like a baby, rocking back and forth in front of the black dust, all that was left of Ariana. I jumped up as he snapped his head towards Rage.

"You! You killed her! I will kill you for what you did!" Before Alec could reach him, Rage had the dagger pointed at him.

"Unless you want to end up the same, you'll leave here and never come back."

"You wouldnt dare. Do you realize what you've done? Ariana was one of the few pureblooded vampires that are left. If you kill me too, more than just you will be killed. Every single one of us is going to know what you did and will stop at nothing to kill you for it."

"You know as well as I do that Ariana was already started to lose the little respect she had. After her father died she fell down in the ranks. You cant tell me you and the others hadn't thought of leaving her anyway."

Alec didnt say another word. He dissapeared silently. I just stood there, in shock. I couldn't even grasp what had just happened. After what seemed like hours of standing there, Rage threw the dagger down on the now barely smoking pile of ashes and walked over to me.

"Are you okay?" I nodded.

"Are you?"

"I'm fine. Ariana already healed me. You're might have to go to the hospital." He wiped off a spot of blood from my lip and I gasped. It felt like my chin was one big bruise.

He ushered me down the sidewalk and directed me to a black car. I started to reach out for the handle on the front door and he stopped me.

"You should lay down in the back."

"Why?"

"If you could see yourself you would understand why." I didnt ask anymore questions. I crawled into the back and laid down.

The hum of the engine started to calm me, and I soon fell asleep.
