Sorry About The Mix Up, Sweetie (Vampire Story) Chap. 26
Chapter 5 : Sorry About The Mix Up, Sweetie (Vampire Story) Chap. 30
I went to Hayleigh's after school the next day along with Jenny, who had missed the last class so she could get an early start on her hairdo at the hair dresser's. She'd gotten a perm, so her hair was a curly bush, and it was done up on her head neatly with flowers decorated over the crown of her head. I knew she was expecting the crown to fit nicely behind it, but I wasn't going to be the one to burst her bubble.
I'd done my hair in ringlets and Hayleigh insisted on doing my make up for me, which looked really good with my iridescent lipstick pink halter ball gown. I am in love with it.
Hayleigh was wearing a strapless yellow princess dress and her hair was done half up and half down in big curls. She looked amazing, like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Jenny's dress was a little more provocative, typical for her, with a slit that stopped at her butt and almost the entire back of her dress was missing, but then I realized it was made to make you look like a slut.
We were ready for about an hour before our dates were going to pick us up, so we sat in Hayleigh's room and talked the entire time.
"You look so good, Hayleigh. Like, in a fairytale kind of way." I stare at her as she twirls around, watching her dress in the mirror.
"Thanks! But you should see yourself." Hayleigh answers. Jenny clears her throat loudly, and I look over at her quickly.
"You look great too, Jenny." Hayleigh says quickly.
"I dunno.. Does my perm look okay? Like, is it prom queen material?" She asks, going up to the mirror and playing with it.
"It looks great the way it is. I wouldn't do a thing to it. You don't wanna ruin it." Hayleigh warns her. Hayleigh was too nice. I wasn't planning on saying a word. In fact, I was going to bite my tongue.
She looks like a prostitute.
Yeah.. I know.
"I'm so excited about tonight! It's like.. supposed to be the best night of our lives." Jenny says, clapping her hands together.
"I know! I can't wait." Hayleigh splashes perfume on her neck. I don't say a word and Hayleigh notices. "How about you, Dace? You excited?"
"I dunno. I guess I thought tonight was gonna be a lot better than it's turning out to be. Not saying I'm having a terrible time with you guys right now. I just didn't think I'd be going to Prom with Roger.." I say, pouting a little.
"Oh well.. It's better than no one, right?" Jenny shrugs and seems to be wanting to change the subject.
"You wanted Ealdwine to take you?" Hayleigh asks. Jenny rolls her eyes again, clearly hoping not to have to hear me complain about him again. She was probably pretty content with the fact that he totally walked out on me. She was the kind of girl who finds happiness out of other people's pain.
"Actually, I wasn't going to say that. I wish Jason would have decided to take me instead."
"Jason.. The one taking Kim Thornily?" Jenny looks at me quickly, enjoying this new gossip.
"Yeah.. Well he's only taking her cause she wasn't allowed to go with her 22 year old boyfriend." I say, throwing more gossip for her to eat up.
"Really? Huh.. How do you know him anyway? He's like totally hot.." She says, as though someone that good looking wouldn't associate with someone like me. Obviously she's messed up to continue thinking that when I once had Ealdwine wrapped around my finger.
"He's in my boxing class. I beat him up a lot."
"Ohh.." She says, losing interest.
"He said he was going to dance with me tonight so I guess it's gonna be alright." I shrug, and check myself out in the mirror. I'd never really seen myself look this way before. It's abnormal to see myself looking innocent and princess-like. It's an oxymoron.
"Well that's cool. Maybe he likes you."
"Maybe." I shrug. I fall back onto Hayleigh's bed and close my eyes. So many things were going through my head and I thought of what kind of things could happen tonight. If Jason and I dance, would it change things between us? And the after party... What's going to happen then? Will Jason be there?
About half an hour later, the doorbell rings. All three of our dates, Roger, Trevor and Jenny's date Alec were wearing their formal outfits. Roger had a tie that had tinges of the color of my dress in it. Alec had on a black jacket over a buttoned down white shirt with the collar popped up. Trevor looked the best in a white suit and yellow tie that matched Hayleigh's dress. I could tell Roger was extremely jealous, as he basically ignored my presence and stared at how amazing Hayleigh looked. Trevor and Alec had both brought corsages for Hayleigh and Jenny, but I noticed that Roger didn't have anything for me.
"Sorry.. It completely slipped my mind." He says, not looking very sincere. Roger and I were distant with each other, and I knew it was because he resented the fact that he had to settle for me over Hayleigh. Oh well, I don't want you either..
"Oh well. I don't care that much." I shrug. Hayleigh's parents begged to take pictures of us in their living room before we got into the limousine. Roger sat with at least 6 inches between us, WITH my huge dress included as well. He gawked at Hayleigh like he was trying to telepathically tell her how much he wanted her instead. I pretended like I didn't notice and play Tetris on my cell phone the entire ride there while everyone else talked. All I wanted was to get there and see Jason. He was probably the only one these days that I could comfortably talk to.
We finally get to the building and it was extremely crowded in the entrance. There had to be over 500 people there already, and there's about 500 people in our graduating class. Minus the 10% that aren't going and add the 50% that are bringing dates from another school plus the 50 parents and teachers already there, we're missing about 225 people still to show up. This was a huge event for our school, so I knew it was going to take some time to find Jason.
I walk in to the building and you could tell this one had a decent budget. There was a stage in the centre of the room with smoke machines, flashing lights, an amp, and 5 members of a pretty decent band playing danceable music. There was a projection on one of the walls changing pictures of memories from the entire year. I prayed they didn't have the one with Ealdwine and I, and decided that I wasn't going to pay too much attention to it anyway. There were balloons everywhere filled with helium, and some of the more immature people were popping them for entertainment. You could definitely tell that a lot of people were already getting drunk, which was ridiculous because if tonight is supposed to be such a great night, why would you want to ruin it by impairing yourself? Don't people wanna remember a night like this?
Roger walked into the crowd, forgetting about me and everyone else follows. I decide to go to the food tables and load up on the cake, which was disappearing quickly. Lately, I've been eating my feelings with evil foods. I've probably put on 10 pounds in the last few months, but nothing too drastic. It's all been going to my hips anyway, which is fine. I just wish it would go to places like my flat chest.
I sit in a chair on the side of the wall and try not to look too aware that I was sitting in the loser seats with the people who only save themselves for the slow dances. I shove the cake down my pie hole and start to feel the fluffy cake moisten with all my bad energy. This is what evil food does to me.
"Is it any good?" A voice asks, sitting beside me. It wasn't a familiar voice at all. In fact, it was that of a girl I didn't even recognize.
"Yeah.. It's pretty good. Want some?" I ask, holding my plate out to her.
"No thanks." She waves her hand and shakes her head. "Where's your date?"
"Off somewhere, pretending like I don't exist. How about yours?"
"Oh.. I didn't bring a date. I came by myself."
"Well, if I'd had known I was going with a douche bag, I would have rathered coming alone. Good on ya. Guys suck anyway." I say, staring at my cake like it was the only thing in the world that wouldn't let me down.
"Well, mostly I'd agree. But there's some pretty amazing guys out there that outshine all the others."
I stare at my cake, and it actually did disappoint me when I thought about it. It was just food. Definitely not an amazing guy. "True."
We went silent for a while, and I finally get a decent look at her when the lights flashed in our direction. She was gorgeous, with volumous blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes. If she went to our school, I'm sure I would have noticed her. Pretty people don't go unnoticed at our school. Everyone's superficial that way. "Do you go to our school?"
"No. I'm just here for purposes I wish not to discuss." She says, smiling, like she was hiding something. Obviously..
"Huh.. Are you like one of those police officers that looks younger than you actually are so you can give liquor tickets to all the drunk kids?" I ask, thinking of the first thing that popped into my head.
"Not even close." She grins and stares into the crowd.
"Then I won't bother guessing anymore." I laugh and toss my paper plate into the trash can next to me.
Suddenly, I notice a very handsome man walk towards me and my heart almost stopped.
"You look stunning tonight." Jason grins, wearing a black tux and his shirt was partially unbuttoned underneath. He looked just as good, if not better than I, smiling toothily. I was relieved to see him, and suddenly very nervous. This was the one thing I was looking forward to all night, and now that he was here, I didn't want to screw anything up.
"Thanks!" I say blushing and look over at the strange girl. "I'll see you later?" I ask.
"You definitely will." She nods, and something about her was strangely familiar. I couldn't figure it out, because I knew I'd never met her before, but I was going to try and remember what it was all night.
"Wanna dance?" Jason asks, taking my hand.
"Abso-course." I say, and cover my mouth quickly.
"Abso-course? What does that mean?" He gives me a funny look.
"I was going to say absolutely and then I changed my mind to say of course in the middle.. It all kind of got jumbled."
"Tongue tied?" He asks, watching me turn scarlet red.
"A little, yes." I nod.
"Just don't talk then." He grins and we start to slow dance extremely close. I lay my head on his chest, since he was much taller than me, and close my eyes. He smelled extremely good. "Did I tell you that you look stunning tonight? Cause you do."
"You did tell me that, yes." I smile and look up at him.
"Well good. I hope it really sinks in, because I can't get over it."
"Really? With that girl sitting next to me? Didn't you see how pretty she was?"
"What girl?" He asks. I broke my breath off and turn around to see if she was still there. She wasn't.
"You didn't see her? She was sitting right next to me."
"There wasn't anyone sitting next to you, Dacia." He says, and I couldn't make sense of what he was saying to me.
"You're joking."
"No, I'm dead serious. I saw you sitting all by yourself and came over to keep you company."
My heart started pounding wildly. Surely I didn't just imagine this girl.. Am I schizophrenic?! Am I just going crazy?!
I push him away from me and stare at the ground.
"I feel really sick." I put my hand to my mouth.
"What?" He looks at me, confused.
"I can't stay here.. I need to go home." I look around the room, and it started to seem really hazy.
I think you ate too much cake, you pig.
"But, it's prom, Dacia.. You can't just leave on one of the most memorable nights of high school. Do you just need some aspirin? Pepto bismal maybe?"
I shrug and try to stand straight, but my heels buckled under my feet. I fall onto the ground in the middle of the floor and people all stare at me as my pink poofy dress settles around me like a giant bean bag. I reach for the floor and try to get to my feet, and kick off my shoes.
Run.
Why?!
Because.. That girl wasn't human.
"Dacia, what's wrong?" Jason looks at me, really worried.
"I'm sorry.. I can't." I shake my head at him and try to run out of the room, but my heels made that difficult. I reach under my dress and pull both of them off.
I turn around to see Jason coming after me. "Please tell me what's wrong.. Are you seeing things? That aren't really there?" He grabs my hand and stops me.
"Maybe, I don't know! I'm scared though.. Something's happening.. I can feel it. If it does, I don't want to be here, and I don't want to ruin your night." I rip my hand out of his grip and cross my arms.
"What do you mean? I'm confused, Dacia. Please, help me understand what is going on with you."
"I just have to go. Maybe one day I can explain it to you, but right now, you need to stay here." I push him back into the room as I head to the exit.
"I want to spend the night with you." Jason frowns, calling from the doorway.
"Me too. I'm sorry." I nod and leave out the front door. People were still coming in wearing brilliant ball gowns and fancy suits. I felt like Cinderella, except I was running away from something, not running to it. I didn't know how far I was going to get, but it was better out here than in there..
I start to head down a dark road with broken lamp posts and dark lit houses. The sun had already set, and I felt like I was walking to a disaster. I hold my dress up so it didn't scrape the ground and wait for whatever was going to come. That girl.. She was real, and I know it. She didn't want to eat anything either. And she came alone for 'purposes she wishes not to discuss.' It made sense now. All of it. I didn't know why she was here, and what she wanted to do, but I knew it was unavoidable.
She was a vampire. It was clear of that. She must know something. Maybe she's seen Ealdwine or Catarina. She could tell me where to find them. Tell me if there was still hope. If they missed me, or changed their minds.
Out of no where, the girl appears in front of me and I almost crashed into her like I always crashed into Ealdwine. She was smiling at me, like I'd done her a favor. "Bad night?"
"Who are you?" I ask her, terrified. She was so beautiful, it was hard to look away. Her skin was fair and unblemished, and her eyes were captivating. I'd forgotten how annoyingly perfect these people were.
"Ophelia." She says, her facial features softening a little. I'd heard the name before, but couldn't match the name to anything right away. She looked at me, as if waiting for me to guess who she was.
"What do you want?"
"I think you know, Dacia." She tilts her head to the side and gives me a fake pout face, like she was making fun of me. Even in this beautiful dress and make up, I still felt uglier than her. Lesser than her.
She walks towards me in a graceful, slow pace, and I back away from her, feeling extremely vulnerable in a big poofy dress and barefoot on rocky pavement. "Tell me."
"I want Ealdwine, and the only thing that's in the way of him is you." She was scowling at me now, and her eyes changed to a fiery red. My eyes nearly popped out of my head. I knew exactly who she was now. She was the girl Ealdwine talked about, the girl who stole Victor away from Catarina. The girl who secretly wanted Ealdwine. I'd been jealous of this girl for a while, even though she was his past.. Now she was his present. He must have found her, or maybe she'd found him, and now she wanted to be with him. What didn't make sense was the 'me being in the way of that' part.
"What are you talking about? I haven't seen Ealdwine in months. He doesn't even care about me, so you can have him." I say, speaking Ealdwine's name out loud for the first time in a very long time. I didn't like the way it sounded on my lips. Not when it was something I would always be denied of.
"I cannot have him, as long as you're alive. I see your face in his mind constantly.. He won't let me have him until he is rid of you. And when you're gone, so will it."
I was completely flabbergasted. I'd walked out on my only prom to get killed. "This is crazy, he doesn't want me. He walked out on me. He told me he doesn't love me, and he is never coming back. I don't believe you."
"Believe whatever you want. I'm only hear to finish what he started, and do what he should have done a very long time ago." She approaches me, her fangs protruding from her mouth. She was no longer pretty anymore.. Her face was scrunched into a hungry eager look, and her back arched over bizarrely into an unnatural manner. I tried to run frantically, but before I had gotten two steps away she grabbed tightly around my neck and lifted me in the air, watching me choke and struggle for air. This was it.. My death. I could see memories flashing past in my head, as I close my eyes, as I cough and choke. I knew I should fight, but it made sense to die this way.. By the hands of a vampire. I was either to be one, or to be killed by one. How could I live a life knowing of such demons and co-exist with such deep dark secrets in me? This was my fate.. At least I was going to go down in a pretty dress..
She drops me and laughs as I roll around on the ground, breathing through what felt like a bruised passageway. I attempt crawl away from her so viciously that my hands were getting scraped and cut by the rocks on the pavement. I had no time to check the cuts and pull myself to my feet. She appears in front of me again, looking so unnatural and so evil..
I try to turn around, but she appears there as well. I couldn't escape her and her hideous wickedness.
Don't let her win.. You can't just give up. Ealdwine misses you.. Remember that. Isn't he worth fighting for your life?
I can't have him.. He knows it. He probably sent her here to destroy me.
He would never do that. Come on. Beat this bitch. At least try and pull out some of your kick boxing!
"You're funny, Dacia. In a cute, annoying way. I've been observing you for the past few days, and I'm starting to catch on to your playful charisma. Ealdwine will love me when I come back, just like he loved you. I can be you, you know. But better." She says, and slaps me across the face. I fall onto the ground from the impact and touch my face to see that it was bleeding.
"It's easy to be careless and childish, like you. But, everyone needs to grow up one day.. Too bad you're never going to see that day." Ophelia picks me up by the hair and I try to scream, but she'd taken my voice away.
Fight! Don't just let her kill you..
"Gosh, you're making this so easy." She says, and licks the blood off my face slowly, and almost moans from the taste, closing her eyes. When she was still, I reach my other hand behind her back and grab onto her hair. Her eyes pop open and her fangs come out. I pull even harder to try and get her head away from me, but I ended up pulling out a chunk of her hair.
"You can keep that. It should grow back in about a second." She says and grabs onto my neck again. She pushes my body into a lamp post and moves her head into my neck. I felt her teeth pierce my skin and it was much worse than the last time. I start to scream and struggle, and as she restrained me, I start to lift my legs up to her stomach and try to push her off of me. It was very hard to even move her a little because she was so much stronger and powerful. I decide my fists would need to do.
I punch the side of her head as I push extremely hard with my legs, and I heard a low freakish growl come from her mouth. I punch her again, but when that didn't work, I dig my nails into her neck as hard as I could. She doesn't seem to be affected too much by it, so I dug even harder until I saw blood surface her skin. Ophelia knew what I had done and quickly jumps back from me, scowling. She grabs onto my shoulder and tosses me across the street. It happened so fast that I didn't even feel the pain. All I could feel was my neck stinging painfully and my face scraping against the pavement. I get up slowly and see her standing several metres away from me, touching her neck and trying to clean up the mess of her filthy blood.
You know what you should do if you want to live.
My conscience didn't even need to convince me this time.
I lift my bloody fingernails to my mouth and lick out her blood from underneath them. She screams as she watches me, and I only continue to do so quicker. I'd seen it in several vampire movies, but only until now did I know it would truly work.
Before I knew it, my entire body writhed and wriggled uncontrollably in the middle of the empty street. I could already feel the poison from her fangs going through my veins like a smoldering acid, but with the addition of her blood, my throat started to burn and choke up. It was happening faster than before, and I lost all control of my body. All I could hear through the dead of the night was the shrieking of a losing vampire as I began to alter into one myself.
THE END
(Before even more people freak out on me.. there is going to be a sequel. To clear up all this confusion of "THE END!!", I want the end of this story to seem like the end of her human life.)
