I stood in the corner of a small bedroom watching a little, four-year old girl sleep. Suddenly there were screams from downstairs. They snapped me back to reality and woke the little girl. I followed her as she fled her room and headed down the stairs. Halfway down the girl slipped and tumbled head first into a large puddle of red liquid. I had tried to catch her but my hand just seemed to right on through her. The liquid covered her face, hair, arms, and chest. The girl looked at the puddle with a quizzical look on her face and then, oddly enough, she sniffed it. The scent was so familiar. She was laying in a puddle, of blood. The girl then realized that she was surrounded by flames. Her house was on fire. Then she noticed something. Behind a large wall of fire was a woman hunched over something. When I moved to get a better view I noticed that the woman was hunched over a man. A man covered in blood. “Mommy,” the little girl muttered, “what’s wrong with daddy?” The woman looked up, tears streaming from her face. “Sweetie, get out of here!” The girl didn’t move. “Now!” her mother screamed. The girl began to cry as she burst out of the house and ran like a maniac. I followed her. I don’t know why I did, I just did. After what seemed like hours of running she finally fell to the ground. She looked at her hands which were covered in her father’s blood. She vomited. She began to shake as she looked back to see if the house was still in her view. Whenn she looked back, our eyes met. That’s when I realized who this girl was. She was me.
