THE LINKS (PART 4) Sealie just lay there for a moment taking everything in. Stared up at the clear blue sky and watched as wisps of clouds rolled by. ‘It is such a peaceful day… Leave it to Kelly to ruin everything. Leave it to Kelly to make Dad explode! Leave it to Kelly to push me off the top step!! Leave it to Kelly to take every enjoyable moment of my life and turn it into a nightmare!!!’ Sealie sat up and pain shot through her leg. She cringed and slowly rolled up her demon caprices, afraid of what she might find. Pure hatred bubbled like lave inside her as she discovered a large round bruise beginning to form on her thigh.
“Sealie.” Her Dad called. She looked up and found he was walking quickly towards her. Sealie hurried to yank down her pant leg and hide her woundbeneath the rough fabric. She didn’t want her father to know Kelly had hurt her. “Sealie, why are you on the ground..?’ Her Dad asked. Brown stains were smeared all over the back of his shorts and white T-shirt from when he had fallen. Sealie looked into his green eyes and saw they were full of concern. “I…Err…I…” Sealie searched for an excuse. “I…fell…off …the step… I mean…” ‘Spit it out already!’ She screamed at herself. “I… tripped over a loose board.” Sealie finally managed. ‘That was the lamest excuse ever..’ She thought angrily. Her father stared into her eyes without blinking, as if trying to summon the truth out of her. ‘Nope. He doesn’t believe me.. I don’t blame him.’ Sealie sighed.
“Hmm..” Her father put his hands on his hips and rocked back and forth, as if trying to decide wether or not to question her and further. To Sealie’s relief he didn’t. “Well, better be more careful next time.” He finished, holding out his large hand. Sealie grabbed it and stood up. She stared at the ground as her father brushed the dirt and twigs off her back. “Uh, Dad, I’m fine… really.” Sealie mumbled feeling her face begin to heat up. Her dad chuckled and turned to look at the cottage. “Well.. I guess I better head in and start unpacking. Hey, why don’t you go swimming? It will help you take your mind off of things.” He suggested walking over to the steps. “Sure.” Sealie tried to sound cheerful, “I have my swimsuit under my clothes so I am all set. I’ll head down to the dock right now.” Her father paused on the step then glanced over at Sealie one last time. “Uh, Sealie..” He hesitated, “I’m sorry about your sisters.. I promise everything will be ok.” Sealie forced a smile as she watched him step inside. She waited until she was sure he was gone then breathed out deeply. She stood there for a moment rubbing her thigh subconsciously then turned and walked slowly back towards the dock.
‘How am I going to survive two whole weeks…? I’ll die. I can’t do this anymore. I’ve got to avoid Kelly and Vitoria somehow. If I don’t see them they won’t get a chance to bother me. Right?’ Sealie had reached the dock and stepped onto its rickety wooden planks. ‘Aww, who am I kidding? That’s impossible. I bet they are waiting in the cottage for me like cats for a mouse. What am I going to do? I guess I should forget about it for now. Dad’s right, a swim will help clear my-’ Sealie’s train of thought suddenly came to a screeching halt, like someone had decided to unplug her power outlet. Her gaze fell upon the water. Her pupils grew abnormally large, making her eyes look like black holes. Sealie tried to think but couldn’t, she tried to speak but no words came out. She tried to move but she was paralysed. She could feel herself slowly loosing control of her mind and body, butshe wasn’t scared. She actually felt.. peaceful…
Sealie’s legs started racing forward with powerful strides, propelling her semiparalysed body towards the edge of the dock. She couldn’t stop. She didn’t want to stop. She wanted to..to.. Sealie suddenly felt as if she were looking for something. Something very important. It was in the water. I was waiting for her. She had to find it. If she didn’t she felt like she would die. She allowed her legs to force her off the dock and into the air. She had to find it, she had to find it! It was searching for her. It was calling her.
Finally Sealie fell through the waters glassy surface and was embraced byits cold, quiet, darkness. She was getting closer. She was going to find it. Sealie began to swim downwards. Down, down, down. The deeper she went the blacker and colder it got. And the closer she was to finding it. The closer she was to finding… her master.
Soon Sealie was getting to be dangerously deep. She had been swimming for a long time now even though to her it only felt like a couple seconds. She couldn’t really tell which way was up or down anymore. All she knew was that she had to find her master. He was waiting for her. Sealie’s ears were aching so badly it felt like her head was going to burst and her lungs felt like they were on fire. She didn’t care though. She had to find master. Nothing could stop her. Sealie’s mind was slowly growing foggy from lack of oxygen and she was beginning to grow weaker... but no, she couldn’t let that stop her. She had to keep going. It didn’t matter if she died. She didn’t care. Sealie’s body wasquickly slowing down. It took every last drop of energy just to stay conscious. The pain was almost impossible to bare now and she was loosing the battle but she wouldn’t serener, not until she found her master. Not until she found him. He would make it all go away. He would make everything okay. He would help her. He would save her.
Suddenly a hand as cold as ice grabbed her ankle. Sealie tried with all her might to kick free, to fight back, but she could barely move. She couldn’t let whatever it was stop her from finding her master, she had to keep going. She tried to kick again but it was no use, she was barely conscious and the thing that was holding her ankle was incredibly strong. It held on so tight the circulation to her foot was being cut off. The thing hauled her backwards and sent a cold tingling sensation radiating through her body. Sealie tried to register what was going on but couldn’t. She tried with all her might to stay conscious but the fog was creeping in from all around her. She couldn’t hold on any longer. A second later she faded into nothingness.
