Victoria was killing people like crazy. It was like she couldn't quench her thirst for even a small period of time.Tracking her was getting more difficult with each passing day. I've never been very good about following Vampire scents, but it never bothered me untill now. I needed to feed, needed to stop, but I couldn't force my body to quit looking for the red haired vampire. Victoria was the only thing that could remind me of Bella. The only thing that kept me going. If Victoria was still out there I new Bella was still in possible danger. I took a breath and relaxed my muscles. They had been tense all day. Worry does a lot of things to vampires, one of the things meant there body was always expecting a fight. Bella didn't need me to worry. She was alright now. Emmett went to check on Bella last week and saw her hanging out with Jessica. He said they went to watch a movie down in Port Angelous. There was a vampire colony nearby. Only two or three in the group, I would stop there to catch my breath and find a good hunting ground. I had no idea where to find any forested area in such a barren land as New Mexico. The dry rock and humidity here was uncomfortable. It would be much nicer in Forks, the drizzle would feel good after this. I couldn't go back though, I couldn't hurt Bella again. Her life would be better by now, I was sure of it. 'She's probably forgotten all about me' I thought to myself, content that I hadn't completly ruined her life. She smiled a sweet pleasent smile, and opened the door wider for me to come inside."My name's Cynthia Kamber. What brings you over here? Honestly there's not any decent hunting grounds in the area, it's too small of a town. We only feed when tourists come by." Good, she had mistaken my black eyes to mean I fed from humans. I didn't want to explain my lifestyle to them. It would just cause conflict. That's when it happened. I heard the log cabin door get pushed open. Cynthia tensed up realizilng the sent was vampire, but didn't blong to her father. I cursed Jasper silently as I read Cynthia's thoughts. She figured we were going to take over her territory. She thought our family was going to attack. I didn't have time to explain that we wern't interested in stealing there home. Cynthia sprung on Jasper. He stepped to the side, but she still collided with him and sent them both sprawling on the floor. Jasper whimpered in pain as Cynthia's teeth sank into the side of his rib cage. Jasper had gotten up now, ready to defend me. He put both his hand on the two power hungry creatures and lured them into a temporary calm. I was so happy he could control emotions.
Last week she was in Texas, I chased her all the way to New Mexico and then lost her.
Well technically Emmett didn't say she was all right. He said she wasn't hurt, just that she seemed distracted. Like her mind wasn't completly focused on anything in the world. She didn't even see Rosalie's car when he had parked it about eight feet infront of her.
My Volvo was still up at one of Carlisle's hospital offices. So I could track Victoria on foot. That was one of the few things he insisted on me doing. Making sure Victoria was dead so Bella would never have to worry again. I'm hoping it will put me back in good graces with him.
Esme is out and about doing her own thing. It's one of the first time in years that she hasn't been with dad. She wants to visit her hometown. Go and see where her house used to be, and find her grave.
I personally have always thought that looking at your own grave is a little depressing. I don't like to go see mine. I know where it is even though it's unmarked, it just seems wrong to visit it. Maybe I should go to Chicago, it could clear my mind. I shook my head to worry about more pressing issues.
I stopped at a small log cabin and nocked on the door. A small petite women anwsered. She was short and thin, with long black curls falling down to her lower back. Her eyes were red, wich gave away she wasn't a vegitarian like myself.
"Hello, my name is Edward Cullen and I was wondering if I could stay here through the day," the sun was breaking across the horizon, unless I wanted to become a disco ball I needed to have shelter and soon. She appeared to be nice, but I can't trust vampires in the south, there all power hungrey. They'd kill there family just to take over a territory.
"Oh. I've never seen you down here before. I'm guessing your just visiting," it wasn't a question. She was letting me know this land was hers and to not do anything funny. Her face was gentle, but behind that seriene mask she was a cobra ready to sping. She would try to kill me if the opprotunity presented its self.
"Yes, I'm not staying very long," Just untill I can find Victoria, I added silently in my head.
"Actually, I was out looking for a friend. Prehaps she stopped by." An unfathomable frown errupted on her face. I read her mind and she thought I meant that I was searching for my mate. I almost laughed aloud with that thought, but I realized it was better if I let her think Victoria was my mate. I didn't want to talk about Bella, the only person I'll ever love.
"No, I haven't seen anyone, but feel free to ask my father when he comes home." Her smile returned. I went back to blocking out her thoughts.
"Will he be back soon?" I pressed. She shrugged her shoulders and led me to a dark leather couch. I sat down across from her.
Jasper came through the door and I saw his honey gold eyes glare at me angrily."Oh, sorry. I suppose I should've knocked first," His voice was sincere. When I tried to read his thoughts he was reciting the names of civil war soldiers in his head. I groaned in frustration at his accomplishment to get me out of his brain." I'm guessing my brother has already introduced himself. My name is Jasper. Dad wants you Edward. It's a family meeting."
At the sound of my brother in trouble I stepped into action. I yanked Cynthia off the floor, pulling her upward by her hair. She now turned her attention toward me. Her hands gripped around my neck as I latched my hands onto her waiste in an attempt to split her in half. I rammed her back against one of the walls, she screamed back and tried to push me off of her.
Someone gripped my shoulders and began pushing me back and fourth into the wall, if I was human I would have lost conciousness. I felt my neck snap out of socket. The room turned lopsided from the angle my head was tilted in. I noticed now who had done it, Cynthia's dad.
We had just enough time to explain to the two them that we didn't want there land and that we were leaving. On our way out the door I felt very uncomfortable. Why is my family looking for me? Being next to Jasper didn't help much either. He still wouldn't speak to me unless he absolutly had too. He just wouldn't let the Bella thing go.
