I woke up the next morning after a night of fitful sleep. I turned around, and saw Anna in a deep sleep and I envied her. I got up and took a shower, and changed into a pair of jeans and a white sweater from Anna's closet. I walked down to Christopher's room and softly knocked the door. "Victoria, good morning" he said curtly "Good morning, Christopher." I fidgeted with the bottom of the sweater. He motioned to a chair in his sitting area, I sat. He sat across from me, and crossed his legs. He was waiting for me to say something. I opened my mouth to speak "Christopher, I'm sorry I left last night, but I didn't want Anna to worry." He snorted "Yeah right, Anna worry" I spoke again "It's just that I don't want the whole house to think that I just came here to sleep with you." His face softened "Yes right, well then, I guess you did good then. I was beginning to fear that it was me that drove you away." I shook my head "No. I was most certainly not you." He smiled, and I smiled back. "Victoria, after Lucian gets here. We should go to dinner or something. Just you and me." I blushed and looked down. "I've never been on a date before." He looked at me puzzled "But you've fed before, and I know you slept with those men." "Well, that was sex. Not a date." "Point taken." There was an uncomfortable silence hanging between us, until he broke it again "I've arranged for your clothes to come here by this afternoon. Are you okay with staying in Anna's room." I nodded "Are you sure because we can always put you in the same room as your brother if you're more comfortable with that." "No. That's okay. Anna and I have grown quite close." I lied, I just really didn't want to share a room with Lucian."This place is cramped compared to the palace." I furrowed my brow "Palace?" "I thought Anna told you." "Told me what?" "Victoria, darling, I'm the prince of our kind. I go from coven to coven to make sure all affairs are in order. Surely, I thought Lucian would've told you." I shook my head "Why would he tell me?" "Lucian and I have had business before, and that also concerned you." "What?" "I can show you better than I can tell you. Tomorrow meet me here at 12 pm." He walked out of the door, and I went to Anna's room. When I got there, Anna was up and dressed and sitting on her bed. "Hey Tori" "Hey" "So what did you go to Christopher's room for? Did you have a quickie?" She raised her eyebrows, I shook my head "No. I went to apologize." "Oh" She looked disappointed. I turned to her "Hey Anna, do you remember me or Lucian?" "I thought I did, but I must be wrong." I looked at her puzzled "Why did you think you were wrong?" "Well the Lucian I knew from long ago, was in total love with Victoria. He wanted to become a vampire so that he could keep some werewolf from taking her away. I almost thought that you were her, you look so much alike." "How did you know what she looked like?" "She was the daughter of the ruler in the land we lived in at the time." She stood up and grabbed my hand and pulled me out "I'll show you her picture, we're headed to the library." We made it to this large library with rows and rows of huge, 6 ft book cases. Anna got a oil lantern, and pulled me all the way to the last book shelf on the left. She grabbed a large, leather-bound book. She sat down on the dark, cool wooden floor and I followed. She opened the giant tome, and flipped through its delicate pages. The silence was broken when she said "This book is centuries old. It contains the entire history of our coven. It has our residents, member records, research findings, this is the place to look." She looked at the book and said "Here, here it is" I looked on the page "It was in the year 1639, we were living in France at the time. Here she is Duchess Victoria." She pointed to a small facsimile of a painting of the girl. She was sitting on a chair while an older man was standing behind her. Her straight, black hair was held back and she was wearing a light blue dress. I felt as though I was staring at a picture of myself. This girl had hair like mine, the same heart-shaped face, the same upturned nose, the same - everything. I gasped "Anna this is me. I know it I feel it. This is me." She looked at the picture, then at me, then at the picture again. "Holy Shit, you're right." I smiled, I had a past. A family. Then it hit me, "Anna, what happened to me, and how does Lucian fit." Anna hesitated "Well, Lucian was your father's adviser and protégée. He came to us and voluntarily became one of us, he also asked us to attack a small coven of werewolves in the same area. It was a trade. The werewolves for becoming one of us. It became a battle, and the whole kingdom was ravaged. Lots of our kind as well as theirs were killed." She looked at me and continued "I was sent to the castle to find Lucian, and I saw him with you-" her voice cracked and she looked back at me with tear-filled eyes "He had his fangs on your neck. At first I thought he was feeding on you, but I saw that he was putting venom into you instead of taking blood out. He turned you." She put her hand on my shoulder and I yanked it away. Everything I had known, was a lie. Lucian took everything away from me. My home, my life, my freedom. A lump settled into my throat, and I swallowed "What happened to my father?" Anna whispered "He was killed. As was Adrian." "Who's that?" "I can show you better than I can tell you. Give me your hands." She put her hands out, palm up and I put my hands on top of hers. "Close your eyes" I did as I was told. Almost instantly I was flooded with images. I saw a boy, about my age. He had shaggy blonde hair and a beautiful smile. He was holding a pink rose out to me, I felt myself smile. He said to me "I love you, more than you would ever know." I heard myself say back "I love you too, Adrian, and I don't care what you are." I heard another voice, but it was not so kind "Well, well mutt. Congratulations, you've won the affections of our young duchess. Did she teach you tricks, or does that come later?" I saw Lucian saying this and I heard myself say "Lucian I don't love you leave us alone." I saw Lucian's eyes glow with anger "Don't tell me what to do!" He took out a sword and lunged it at Adrian. I heard myself scream as Lucian dug the blade into Adrian's toned body. Lucian grabbed my neck and turned me around. I felt him sink his sharp fangs into me. I felt the burning venom run through my veins, I heard myself scream again. I opened my eyes, and pulled my hands away. Tears started running down my face. Anna pulled me into a hug, I sobbed. "He took everything away from me! And then he lied to me! All this time, I've always wondered what happened." Anna patted my hair, and kissed the top of my head "It's okay. We'll see to it that everything will be all right." Just then a gust of wind blew into our direction, and I heard Lucian's chilling voice "I see you've discovered my little secret." I stood up. "What do you want, traitor?" "Traitor. Is that any way to talk to the man who gave his life to love you." He walked up to me and kissed me. I pushed him away "You mean the man who couldn't get the girl, so he had to kill his competition." He shrugged "Potato, patahto." I glared at him "I hate you. You stole everything from me." Anna got between us and looked at Lucian "Why don't you just leave." "Look bitch, nobody asked you!" He got out a dagger and plunged it into her. I screamed and caught my friend before she hit the floor. I saw the light dim from her blue eyes. I looked back at Lucian "I can see only one of us can live to tell this story." He smirked. I punched him, he grabbed my throat. I clawed at his eyes, and he let me go. I ran toward the door of the library screaming "Help! Help somebody!" Lucian was gaining on me. He finally caught up with me just as the door was in plain view. He slammed my face into the wall. I could feel blood trickle down my face. I grabbed one of the large candlesticks and swung. The candle fell to the floor and the candlestick crashed into his chest. I heard the crack of his ribs, and he got up from the floor. He had blood dripping from his mouth. I swung again, getting his shoulder. He fell to his knees in pain. A sword in a glass case caught my eye. I broke the case and go the centuries old sword. "You killed the only people who loved me with a sword. And you know what they say-" I plunged the sword into his chest "'Those who live by the sword-" I took it out and put it into his throat "Die by the sword!" I took it out again and rose it above my head. I stopped for a moment and brought it down. His head landed on the floor with a thud. His body followed. I heard Christopher and a few other people come in and say "Oh my god! Victoria!" I dropped the sword. He ran to me and held me, and I cried. All I could say was "It is done. After all this time…it is done."
