I woke up that night to a start, as the bus lurched to a halt.
I sat up in my bunk, rubbing my tired eyes, confused as to what had just happened.
"Ugh," I groaned, pulling the curtain to my bunk aside and almost falling out of bed in a tired daze. "What's going on?"
"Did you feel that?" asked Amanda, who was crawling out of the bunk above mine. She looked strangely pale and her voice was croaky.
"Yeah," I muttered, pushing the hair out of my face. "Let's go see."
Quickly pulling on our bathrobes, Amanda and I began to make our way to the front of the bus, where the driver was absent from his seat. We climbed off the bus, only to see the driver, the other bus' driver, the band and Jimmy all standing around, staring at the hood of our bus, which was currently smoking from inside.
"What happened?" Amanda asked, looking concerned.
"I have no idea," our bus driver replied apologetically. "I was driving as planned – we have to make it to the next venue by eight! Suddenly there was a bang and the freaking hood started to smoke!"
"It's okay," Jimmy said, "everyone just calm down. We'll get this fixed later – there has to be a mechanic around here somewhere."
"But what about now?" Fred asked, "we have to get – "
"There's only one thing to do," Jimmy looked around, "we are all going to have to share a bus."
"What?" exclaimed Adam and I at the exact same moment. This was also the moment Angel decided to materialize, camera and all.
"What's going on?" he asked tiredly, breaking the tension. "Whoa – is the bus broken?"
"Apparently so," Jimmy replied, unimpressed that he was being filmed in his pajamas. "Come on, let's get our stuff. We have to squeeze onto the band's bus, at least for a few days. We’re already behind schedule."
With that, he turned around and walked back onto the bus to gather his belongings, gesturing for us to do the same.
Everyone began to get back to their buses tiredly. It had been enough excitement for one night. Adam made a point to lower his eyes at me before turning and following his band mates.
This? This was just what I needed.
